Don't Mess with That Dragon

Chapter 071: On the Battlefield

The Forest Land, a scene of desolation.

The previously expansive forest has been largely destroyed, with many areas uprooted entirely. Visible cracks spread across the land like a spider's web, covering the entire ground.

Charred black earth scattered around the pits, covered by a layer of loose soil.

This was once the place where the frontline tug-of-war took place.

The war almost wiped out the entire forest, with skeletal remains still visible on the ground.

The horrific scenes of the past warfare remain evident.

Austin swiftly flew over the land, glancing at the frontline of the battlefield in the distance while observing his surroundings.

As he approached, more beastmen and other creatures populated the ground.

Dashing through the forest, covered in the dust of war, gnawing on unknown food while leaning against bare tree trunks.

Not far away, many beastmen or monsters missing limbs lay on the ground wailing, their breaths weakening.

Soon, several monsters furtively darted out from the forest, dragging corpses into the bushes and followed by a gruesome chewing sound.

For these monsters, the corpses of the beastmen or their kin are just as edible.

And the few beastmen gnawing food nearby seemed indifferent to this.

Austin swept through the low skies, causing a massive disturbance.

The powerful air currents surged, casting huge shadows, causing the beastmen monsters around to scatter.

But their faces showed little panic, having experienced this scene many times before.

Perhaps during front line combat, colossal beings often sweep across the high skies above.

The whole land is chaotic.

"It's such disarray, truly just a group of expendable cannon fodder..."

Austin pondered quietly in his heart.

No organization whatsoever.

Just forcibly conscripting bands of beastmen and forest monsters to the battlefield, driving them forward, consuming enemy weapons.

No training, no organization, merely large numbers of beastmen and forest monsters pushed forward, clueless about their own actions.

Even fallen bodies in the pits would probably be devoured as food by their comrades the next moment.

"To persist for two years, truly impressive."

No wonder so many beastmen died.

Yet, how those entities were able to drive these scattered beastmen and forest monsters onto the battlefield without retreat remains a mystery.

Witnessing these scenes, Austin's heart grew heavy.

While flying towards the warfront, he kept observing around him.

Though the war cost a massive loss of beastmen and forest monster cannon fodder, there were still at least millions left now.

When people number in the hundreds, they cover the mountains and wilds. When they advance, the ground connects to the sky.

Moreover, with millions.

Millions of cannon fodder stretched along the battle lines, the width alone spans dozens of miles, not to mention the length.

However, this is ideal for someone like Austin who prefers to fish in troubled waters, offering the best protection.

Hidden in the tens or twenties miles-long frontline, unnoticed, once the enemy's defenses break, he can naturally enter with the tide.

Rumble!!!

As he approached, the far-off roar grew louder, the ground vibrations clearer.

The beastmen, goblins, demon wolves, ogres, and other monsters below became denser, occasionally giant flying beasts swept by Austin's side.

Crossing a hill range.

Ahead is the battlefield of direct contact.

This is the frontline!

Thick smoke rolled up and covered the sky ahead.

Numerous beastmen, forest monsters surged forward, covering the mountains and plains like a black tide.

The opposing defense line spewed fire tongues, sporadic sparks flickered from the void, dense as water, the front army composed of beastmen and monsters fell like harvested wheat.

Meanwhile, relying on fortifications along the fire line, rows of decayed zombie-like giants, towering ten to twenty meters, sat behind the defenses.

High above, flying beasts occasionally launched attacks, but mostly were shot down by these decaying giants.

The battle line was exceedingly tense.

A large number of beastmen and monster armies fell, with more rushing in from the rear.

The rising smoke of war nearly obscured the opponent's fortifications.

Through gaps between the smoke, some basic outline of the other side still faintly visible.

It's a massive wall, stretching countless kilometers, forming a gigantic defensive line like a steel barrel, protecting the Beastman Royal Court behind.

The continuous wars made the walls uneven, full of breaches, yet still standing.

"This is the final defense line!"

Austin's gaze was profound.

Before this, there was a massive barrier hiding the core area.

But it had already been broken earlier.

They were already in the heartland of the Beastman Royal Court.

Once breaking through this outer shell, they could burst into the core of the Beastman Royal Court!

His target was there!

"Something seems strange..."

Hidden amidst chaos, Austin suddenly felt something was amiss.

Opposite the Beastman Royal Court indeed operated as Austin initially speculated with artillery, yet those gunmen and artillerymen seemed problematic.

All kinds of half-beastmen, along with those giant decaying zombies, formed a tough defense line.

Somewhat peculiar, but Austin couldn't quite say exactly.

Moreover, the large number of attacking beastmen and monster cannon fodder, the deceased comrades at the front seemed to have no effect on them.

How is this possible?

Hiding within the army, Austin's gaze began to wander.

His area was merely an inconspicuous corner of the western line in the long miles-long frontline.

Austin's physique was large compared to average beastmen, but in such a battle involving millions, nobody paid attention, especially since this wasn't the center?

The true coalition's center was still in the core area of the battle line.

There, most legendary forces of the coalition gathered, which was the essence of the main force.

All great legends, various forces interwoven.

The main gate of the defense line established by the Beastman Royal Court!

Once breaking through the center defense line, they could immediately advance, attacking the Beastman Royal Court.

Where Austin was located now was like a side force, meant to divert the enemy troops as cannon fodder.

But Austin wasn't concerned, this was the place he deliberately chose, after all, chaos makes it easier to fish in troubled waters. Moreover, according to the maps provided by Fox-faced Man Quik and the Elf Mother Tree, breaking through from this direction would quickly reach the place of the Teleportation Array....
