Doctor: Picking Up Attributes in the Hospital

Chapter 242: A Familiar Graduate School Opening Ceremony

2:20 PM.

Inside the grand hall of Boya Medical College.

At this moment, Zhao Heng is sitting beside Professor Huang, waiting for the start of the graduate opening ceremony.

Initially, Zhao Heng wanted to sit at the back with the other graduate students, but Professor Huang insisted that Zhao Heng sit next to him. Unable to refuse, Zhao Heng agreed.

However, by sitting there, Zhao Heng drew the attention of everyone in the grand hall.

Especially the new graduate students in the back rows waiting for the ceremony to commence, who began whispering to each other.

"Who's that big shot in the front row sitting next to the professor?"

"That's no ordinary professor, that's the most esteemed elder in our school, the doyen of anesthesiology - Professor Huang Guangyu!"

"I originally wanted to apply for a spot under Professor Huang Guangyu as a graduate student, and I saw that there was a master-to-PhD spot under him this year, but I couldn't find the application entry for it."

"So that means, the big shot sitting next to Professor Huang Guangyu must be quite impressive as well."

Such discussions continuously erupted in the back rows.

This is not surprising. Professor Huang Guangyu is pretty much the hallmark of Boya Medical College. Every graduate student wants to study under such a reputed figure in the field.

But unfortunately, this sole spot was reserved for Zhao Heng.

Though it can be considered a small act of nepotism, just for convenience's sake—let Zhao Heng compete against the new students present, and he wouldn't flinch at all.

While the new students were curious, Principal He Cheng sitting on the other side of Professor Huang was equally curious. He had long heard that Professor Huang seemed to have taken an exceptional student, and upon seeing today, the student was even younger than he expected, and Professor Huang specifically asked him for a master-to-PhD spot for this student.

"Professor Huang, is this the student you've taken under your wing?"

Principal He Cheng casually chatted with Professor Huang, though inside he was full of curiosity.

That's because in recent years, Professor Huang had hardly taken any students, with the only assistant Shu Xiu having some familial ties with him.

The reasons being Professor Huang's advancing age and waning energy compared to his earlier years and on the other hand, not having found any outstanding protégé.

"Yes, this is Zhao Heng, who previously collaborated with Professor Li Hongwei from Yanjing University and cured an athlete who'd been in a prolonged coma due to cranial injury via neural stem cell transplantation."

Professor Huang nodded and said to Principal He Cheng.

"I've heard about this, remarkable, truly remarkable."

Principal He Cheng nodded, looking at Zhao Heng.

"Xiao Zhao, welcome to Boya Medical College for further studies. I trust you won't regret today's choice."

Principal He Cheng leaned over past Professor Huang to speak to Zhao Heng, who was sitting there quietly.

"Thank you, Principal."

Upon hearing the principal addressing him, Zhao Heng was momentarily stunned, but quickly came to his senses and responded politely.

As for Principal He Cheng of Boya Medical College, Zhao Heng had little impression, but anyone leading a top medical college surely isn't a simple individual.

However, Principal He Cheng only exchanged a brief greeting with Zhao Heng, considering his position required attention on a multitude of matters.

Not long after, the time for the opening arrived, and Principal He Cheng ascended the stage, standing before the podium.

It must be said, in Zhao Heng's view, Principal He Cheng appeared quite scholarly.

With a smile, he began to speak, his deep demeanor exuding calmness, as he warmly addressed: "Dear students,

Welcome to the Boya Medical College family, becoming the new generation of protagonists at Boya Medical College. I believe you're here with a heart set on saving lives and helping the distressed. Choosing medicine might be coincidental, but once chosen, it must be embraced with lifelong dedication and passion. As Sun Simiao mentioned in the 'Preface to Essential Formulas Worth a Thousand Gold', human life is of utmost importance, worthy of a thousand gold coins. To help, one's virtue surpasses this value, hence it's named so."

"Here, I want all of you to deeply remember this first line: human life is of utmost importance, worthy of a thousand gold coins. And Hippocrates once said, medicine is the noblest and the most beautiful of all arts."

Principal He Cheng spoke on stage with sincerity and passion, and Zhao Heng, listening below, thought the principal was quite decent, at least quoting classics that resonated, rather than hollow platitudes typical of some leadership speeches.

Indeed, once the principal finished speaking, the applause that followed was quite enthusiastic.

Next, naturally, came the speech of the representative for the new class. She was a slightly delicate-looking young woman who spoke with the tone of a broadcast announcer, leading Zhao Heng to suspect her proficiency in Mandarin likely came from being part of the campus broadcasting station during her high school or undergraduate days.

After the new student representative finished her speech, the main event followed: the oath-taking.

The oath was, of course, the famous medical student vow.

Zhao Heng stood up with all the new students, prepared to take the oath. He had recited this vow when he enrolled in medical school as an undergraduate, but with practical work experience now, reciting this vow again felt quite different.

Soon, the solemn and sacred chorus echoed in the grand hall.

"I commit my dedication to health, entrusting my life.

Upon entering this esteemed medical institution, I solemnly vow:

I am committed to medicine, devoted to the country, faithful to the people, abiding by medical ethics, respecting teachers and disciplines, striving diligently, persevering in perfecting my skills, and developing comprehensively. I resolve to give my utmost to eradicate human ailments, promote perfect health, and uphold the sanctity and honor of medicine. I will save lives and help the injured, enduring hardships, and relentlessly pursuing, dedicating my life to the advancement of my nation's medical health profession and the health of mankind!"

Every medical student, while reciting this oath, feels an inexplicable pride and sense of responsibility, surging with the desire to dedicate themselves to the medical cause.

But how long this determination lasts, and whether it can withstand the trial and refining of harsh reality, remains uncertain.

With the vow completed, the graduate opening ceremony ended, and the new students left the grand hall in small groups.

Seeing the ceremony come to a close, Professor Huang said to Zhao Heng, "Come on, Xiao Zhao, I'll take you to get familiar with where you'll be studying."

"Alright, teacher."

Zhao Heng nodded.

However, he felt in his heart that this study place was likely a workspace or something similar?

Maybe not even a workstation; after all, can a graduate student have their own desk?
