Chapter 90: Night Meeting
Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, it was past twelve o'clock.
Liu Ergou had unintentionally fallen asleep, but at ten past twelve, he suddenly jolted awake.
He glanced at the alarm clock, patted his head, and shook it.
How did I fall asleep? I almost messed up something important!
As he thought this, a sly smile touched Liu Ergou's lips.
He immediately got out of bed, left his home, and headed straight for the dilapidated temple at the east end of the village.
Liu Ergou walked briskly and arrived at the temple in no time.
Once inside, he glanced around.
Wu Guifang hadn't arrived yet. He was the first one here again.
Arriving first didn't make Liu Ergou anxious. He simply found a clean spot to sit and wait. This time, he had his phone, so he could keep precise track of the time.
After about thirty minutes, a sneaky figure finally appeared at the temple entrance.
Watching the sneaky figure, Liu Ergou suddenly felt a playful urge and carefully hid behind the altar.
Once the figure slipped into the temple, she let out a long sigh of relief.
She looked around and, after a moment, couldn't help but mutter a complaint.
"That Liu Ergou... We agreed on a time. Why isn't he here yet? When he finally shows up, I'm going to give him a piece of my mind!"
Hearing Wu Guifang's voice, Liu Ergou couldn't resist coughing.
He deliberately lowered his voice and said, "Ahem. Wu Guifang, you're not sleeping at this hour. What are you doing here?"
The sudden voice startled the waiting Wu Guifang so badly she leaped to her feet. Without a word, she turned to run.
Seeing her about to flee, Liu Ergou quickly stepped out and called to her.
"Auntie Guifang, don't go! I was just teasing you! Look how scared you are!"
About to flee, Wu Guifang froze when she heard Liu Ergou's voice.
She glared at him fiercely before snapping irritably, "You damn scoundrel, Liu Ergou! Do you think it's funny scaring your auntie like that?"
"You nearly gave me a heart attack! If you pull that again, I'd rather not come see you at all!"
With that, Wu Guifang stepped forward and bit down hard on Liu Ergou's arm.
Of course, she didn't use much force.
But Liu Ergou still put on an exaggerated display. "OUCH! Auntie, that hurts!"
Seeing his theatrics, Wu Guifang rolled her eyes.
"Stop putting on an act, Er Gou. It was just a little bite. You, on the other hand, nearly scared me to death!"
As she spoke, Wu Guifang burrowed right into his arms.
"Let's hurry up and get started! It wasn't easy for me to get out tonight. That old fool, Liu Jingming, insisted I help him count money, saying it was like free cash from the sky."
"Something about a government allocation... it added up to over a hundred thousand! He was too excited to sleep, which is why it took me so long to find a chance to sneak out!"
Wu Guifang had spoken casually, but her words immediately caught Liu Ergou's attention. He perked up and began to question her.
"Auntie, what did you say? What allocation of over one hundred thousand? Tell me more."
But Wu Guifang had no intention of elaborating. Instead, she nestled deeper into his embrace and skillfully began to unbutton his coat.
"If you want me to tell you the details, I can," she purred. "But Er Gou, that's up to you. If you satisfy your auntie, I'll tell you anything you want to know."
By then, her hand had already slipped inside his shirt.
At this point, Liu Ergou understood her meaning perfectly. His spirits soared.
"Alright then. We'll see who's begging for mercy this time. Looks like I need to help Auntie refresh her memory!"
With that, Liu Ergou hesitated no longer. He scooped Wu Guifang up and carried her into a pile of hay.
「In that instant.」
The weather outside the temple changed drastically. A wild wind suddenly rose, whipping the dark clouds into a frenzy. It howled and shook the decrepit structure, making it seem as if it would collapse at any moment.
The fierce wind raged for a long, long time before it finally subsided. Mixed in with its howls were Wu Guifang's pleas for mercy.
Just like last time, Liu Ergou ignored her pleas.
「Soon, it was the early hours of the morning.」
Wu Guifang lay in Liu Ergou's arms, cheeks flushed and forehead beaded with sweat.
"E-Er Gou," she stammered, "I think you're really trying to kill me!"
"My god, how are you... so powerful!"
Liu Ergou just chuckled. "Auntie, you should have known how powerful I was from last time, right?"
Then, he got straight to the point.
"Alright, Auntie. Now, tell me about what Liu Jingming said. The hundred thousand yuan. I'm curious."
Wu Guifang didn't hesitate. "I don't know all the details," she said. "Apparently, the higher-ups allocated funds to build a health clinic in our village."
"They allocated the land and the money—about a hundred thousand yuan! As for what happened next... do I even need to say?"
"You know that old scoundrel Liu Jingming. He's always been greedy. Of course he embezzled it!"
As she said this, Wu Guifang's eyes lit up. "Oh, right, Er Gou! I saw you leaving my house earlier. Liu Jingming must have told you about this!"
"You're the only one in the village who knows anything about medicine, so he must want you to run the clinic. How much of the construction money did he give you?"
Liu Ergou answered without hesitation.
"He gave me 7,000."
The words were barely out of his mouth before Wu Guifang, despite her limbs feeling like jelly, shot up from the hay.
"What?" she shrieked. "Er Gou, did I hear you right? Out of more than a hundred thousand, he only gave you 7,000?!"
Seeing her shocked expression, Liu Ergou nodded. "That's right. Only 7,000. The bank card is still on my table at home. I can show it to you if you don't believe me."
Hearing this, Wu Guifang snatched up her clothes and staggered to her feet, her legs as weak as noodles.
As she struggled to get dressed, she fumed, "That old bastard Liu Jingming! He's gone too far! Giving you only 7,000 out of more than a hundred thousand!"
"Even a layperson like me knows you can't build a health clinic with just 7,000 yuan!"
