Chapter 435 Cooperation
Lu Shuangyue said nothing about Liu Ergou's lame excuse, simply turning to look at Mi Xiaoying.
At this moment, Liu Ergou was still rather puzzled.
"Hey, Shuang Yue, if I remember correctly, isn't Mi Xiaoying in the jade betting business? Why would she suddenly show up at this seminar?" he whispered. "And a traditional Chinese medicine seminar at that!"
Lu Shuangyue immediately shook her head. "Don't ask me. I have no idea."
"Seriously, I'm even more curious than you are. An old saying goes, 'Different trades are like different mountains,' but it would be no exaggeration to say that jade betting and traditional Chinese medicine are on different planets! I really can't think of a single reason for Mi Xiaoying to attend this seminar."
It wasn't just Lu Shuangyue and Liu Ergou who were curious; nearly everyone else in attendance was as well. They stared intently at Mi Xiaoying, whispering among themselves.
"Huh? What is Mi Xiaoying doing here?"
"Yeah, why did she come? Her business has absolutely nothing to do with Chinese medicine!"
"Exactly! Does anyone know what's going on?"
While the crowd murmured, Mi Xiaoying had already reached Master Gongsun. Only then did everyone notice that the seat beside him had been empty the entire time.
After greeting Master Gongsun, Mi Xiaoying unceremoniously took the empty seat beside him. The sight of her taking a seat made everyone frown once more.
"Tsk, now I get it. This isn't just any seminar; there's more to this than meets the eye!"
"Yeah, in my opinion, Mi Xiaoying herself probably organized today's event!"
"No way. Everyone knows what business she's in. Why would she organize this? Don't tell me she's suddenly interested in traditional Chinese medicine and wants to study it?"
"Oh, please, be serious! Suddenly interested in Chinese medicine? You've got to be kidding!"
Almost everyone present was familiar with Mi Xiaoying's background. Their reaction to her arrival wasn't strong, merely curious. But their curiosity paled in comparison to Liu Ergou's.
He was so curious he could barely sit still.
Why on earth would a stunning woman like Mi Xiaoying invite me to her office for a talk back then? Could it be that she's taken a liking to me? The thought alone made Liu Ergou feel as if he had lost a hundred million dollars. If he had known, he would have obediently gone to see her. Perhaps he could have used the opportunity to start something beautiful with Mi Xiaoying. That would have been a win no matter how you look at it.
Thinking this, Liu Ergou couldn't help but let out a silly chuckle. He quickly regained his composure, however, returning to his previous air of feigned indifference.
Just then, Master Gongsun, seated in the center, suddenly rose to his feet. Pointing to Mi Xiaoying beside him, he announced loudly, "Ladies and gentlemen, our guest of honor has arrived!"
"I am sure most of you recognize our guest, but for those who don't, allow me to make an introduction! This distinguished guest's surname is Mi. She is Mi Xiaoying, a well-known entrepreneur in our city! And this very seminar is sponsored by her! Now, please join me in welcoming President Mi!"
As he spoke, Master Gongsun began to clap. However, the crowd was not receptive. The applause was sparse and half-hearted. Clearly, most of those present were more curious about Mi Xiaoying's arrival than they were welcoming.
Mi Xiaoying, however, remained unfazed. She showed little reaction to the cold reception. She had grown accustomed to such situations and had faced far worse before. This display hardly registered.
After straightening her clothes, Mi Xiaoying stood up and addressed the room in a clear voice. "I imagine you are all a bit curious about my presence here today. And you are likely even more curious as to why I proposed holding a second seminar.
"I've always been a straightforward person. The reason for this seminar is quite simple: traditional Chinese medicine is in decline while Western medicine dominates! Seeing this situation pains me deeply. This is a national treasure passed down from our ancestors. How can we allow it to be suppressed by Western medicine, which comes from abroad?
"So, I took some time to think about this seriously, and I believe I have identified the root cause of traditional Chinese medicine's decline!"
At these words, every eye in the room focused on her. Seeing this, Mi Xiaoying couldn't help but let the corners of her mouth curve into a smile. This was exactly what she had anticipated.
She continued, "The problem is simple: a lack of communication and sharing. You see, practitioners of modern Western medicine are united. They share many of their patents and discoveries with one another, which is how they have become so powerful over the last few centuries—so powerful that they are on the verge of replacing traditional Chinese medicine entirely!
"Meanwhile, traditional Chinese medicine, as you all know, is divided into countless schools, and each has its own ultimate, secret techniques. These ultimate techniques are often passed down only from father to son, never to a daughter. It is precisely because of this issue that many techniques have been lost over time.
"Of course, that tradition isn't the primary reason. The main reason is that everyone is fending for themselves, even remaining guarded against one another. What are you guarding against, you might ask. Do I even need to say it? You're afraid someone will steal your school's unique skills! As a result of this attitude, traditional Chinese medicine has been in steady decline.
"Seeing this happen, I am naturally heartbroken, which is why I proposed this second seminar. The purpose of this event is also very simple: I hope we can all start to cooperate! We can't keep reinventing the wheel in isolation. Only by working together can we achieve greatness once more!"
After finishing her speech, Mi Xiaoying bowed deeply to everyone present. As she bowed, her loose neckline gaped open.
In unison, every man in the room fixed their gaze on her. They stared with such heated intensity, they looked as if they wanted to dive right in.
The entire venue fell silent.
Soon, Mi Xiaoying straightened up and scanned the room. Her gaze brightened when she spotted Liu Ergou.
Suddenly, she winked at him.
Liu Ergou saw the gesture clearly, and his brow instantly furrowed. It was at that moment he finally understood what this seminar was truly about.
