At that moment, Liu Er Gou had already reached the second floor of Baozhi Hall. He strode confidently to the office and pushed the door open, walking right in.

Lu Shuang Yue was sitting behind her desk, staring intently at her computer. She was so focused that she didn't even notice when Liu Er Gou arrived. It was only when he cleared his throat softly that the engrossed Lu Shuang Yue finally snapped out of her trance.

Startled, Lu Shuang Yue frowned, but her eyes remained glued to the computer screen as she tried to continue working.

"Who let you in?" she demanded, her tone sharp. "Didn't I say not to bother me unless the sky was falling? Do my words mean nothing to you people?"

Her tone was cold, but it carried an undeniable pressure that would have made anyone else apologize immediately.

Liu Er Gou, however, simply chuckled. "What's this, Director Lu? Am I not welcome either?"

Upon hearing his voice, Lu Shuang Yue froze for a second before her expression blossomed into one of delighted surprise. She immediately abandoned her work, shot up from her chair, and crossed the room in a few quick strides to throw herself into Liu Er Gou's arms.

"Er Gou, you're here!" Lu Shuang Yue exclaimed, her voice coquettish from within his embrace. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming?"

Looking down at the woman in his arms, Liu Er Gou boldly reached out to cup her perky bottom, lifting her effortlessly off her feet.

"If I had told you beforehand, it wouldn't have been a surprise!"

As he spoke, he carried Lu Shuang Yue over to the sofa and sat down with her in his lap. Before she could say another word, his hands began to wander. Within minutes, Lu Shuang Yue was panting softly, her face flushed a deep crimson.

She felt a feverish heat spread through her body, and her heart began to race. It had been a long time since she had been alone with Liu Er Gou. Furthermore, ever since Baozhi Hall ran into trouble, she hadn't returned to town. She had stayed in the city to deal with a host of chaotic problems, which had left her mentally and physically exhausted. But now, being with Liu Er Gou, Lu Shuang Yue felt completely at ease.

Just as Liu Er Gou was about to take things to the next level, Lu Shuang Yue suddenly put a hand on his chest and gently pushed him away.

This left Liu Er Gou puzzled. "Shuang Yue, what's wrong?"

She pointed a delicate finger toward the office door.

"Er Gou, the door isn't locked. What if someone walks in right now and sees us? I'd die of embarrassment!"

Without even turning his head, Liu Er Gou replied, "What's there to be afraid of, Shuang Yue? When have you ever heard of an employee just barging into their boss's office?"

"Don't worry, don't worry!" With that, Liu Er Gou puckered his lips to kiss her again.

However, to his utter disbelief, a knock suddenly sounded on the office door at that very moment.

The sound froze Liu Er Gou in place. He couldn't believe someone was actually looking for Lu Shuang Yue at a time like this. It was incredibly frustrating. He couldn't help but scratch his head.

"Shuang Yue, can you tell whoever that is to go away?" Liu Er Gou asked in a low voice.

Hearing this, Lu Shuang Yue shook her head with a look of regret.

"No, I can't. That might have worked before, but things are serious now. Anyone looking for me at this hour must have something important to discuss."

"Quick, get up before anyone sees!" Lu Shuang Yue said, gently patting him.

Liu Er Gou let out a long sigh before reluctantly getting to his feet and straightening his clothes. Soon, they had both straightened their attire. Once she was presentable, Lu Shuang Yue called out softly to the door, "Come in!"

The door opened, and a young woman in a secretary's uniform entered, carrying a thick stack of files. She walked directly to Lu Shuang Yue and began to speak in a low voice.

Liu Er Gou listened for a moment but couldn't understand a single word.

Glancing at the thick stack of files, Liu Er Gou hesitated. He said a quick goodbye to Lu Shuang Yue and then left Baozhi Hall. With that much paperwork, there was no telling how long they would be talking, and he couldn't wait around forever. Besides, Lu Shuang Yue was clearly very busy.

After leaving Baozhi Hall, Liu Er Gou found himself wandering the streets with no idea what to do. He considered going back to find Zhang Man but quickly decided against it. After a bit more thought, he decided the best thing to do was just head home.

And so, Liu Er Gou got into his car and began the journey home.

By the time he arrived back in the village, evening had fallen. He didn't waste a moment, heading straight home. He arrived just as his sister-in-law, Xu Yulan, was finishing up dinner. Liu Er Gou sat down at the table and began to eat with her.

Originally, Liu Er Gou had planned to seduce Xu Yulan after their meal. But seeing how she was so tired she could barely keep her eyes open, he ultimately decided against it. Instead, he just ate his meal quietly and even took on the responsibility of washing the dishes afterward.

Just as he had finished his chores, returned to his room, and collapsed onto his bed, a series of urgent knocks echoed from the courtyard gate. Accompanying the frantic knocking was the anxious voice of Feng Chunling.

"Xu Yulan, has Er Gou come back yet?"

"If he's back, open the door! It's important!"

"Hurry, open up!"

Hearing the incessant shouting, Liu Er Gou couldn't help but sigh. It seemed getting any rest was just impossible. But sighing wouldn't make her go away. He slipped on his shoes and went outside.

"Auntie Chun Ling, it's late! Please keep it down, people are trying to sleep," Liu Er Gou said as he walked over and opened the gate.

The moment the gate was open, Feng Chunling grabbed his arm and started pulling him away.

This left Liu Er Gou baffled.

"Auntie, what are you doing? If you have something to say, just say it! Stop dragging me around!"

"It's the middle of the night! If anyone saw us, we'd be in big trouble!"

Without even turning her head, Feng Chunling retorted, "Who's going to be out at this hour? Besides, this is really important. Just come to my house first!"
