Thinking of this, Liu Ergou pushed the gate open, ready to leave. But just as he placed his hand on it, he heard Yang Mei say disdainfully, "Hmph, could he really be that kind?"

"Mom, if Liu Ergou were kind enough to arrange a job for you, then pigs could fly!" Yang Mei continued. "Have you forgotten how he used to bully me when we were kids? If he's arranging a job for you, he must be looking for a chance to get revenge! You can't trust him!"

Standing at the gate, Liu Ergou couldn't help but roll his eyes upon hearing Yang Mei's words.

How could she have such a childish idea? Revenge on Feng Chunling? She really has a wild imagination.

Then again, I did get my revenge on Feng Chunling. The past was just dealt with in another way. And she was quite satisfied with it!

A chuckle escaped Liu Ergou's lips at the thought.

Unfortunately for him, Yang Mei saw his smile. She leaped up from the sofa, pointing a finger at him as she began to curse furiously.

"Liu Ergou, I knew you were up to no good! Don't think I didn't see you snickering just now. You must be planning to get back at my mom through this job offer!"

After speaking, Yang Mei turned to Feng Chunling. "Mom, you absolutely cannot let him arrange a job for you! He's definitely thinking about revenge! We are not going!"

To Yang Mei's surprise, her mother actually scolded her.

"What are you talking about, Mei?" Feng Chunling said with a stern face. "Er Gou is being kind by offering me a job. How can you accuse him of wanting revenge?"

"Our family had some unpleasantness with Er Gou in the past, but that's all over now! Those issues are long gone, and Er Gou has moved on. How can you still be holding onto them?"

Hearing her mother's words, Yang Mei stomped her foot in frustration but didn't know what to say.

Feng Chunling then turned to Liu Ergou with an apologetic expression. "Er Gou, don't pay any mind to Mei. She just graduated and doesn't understand anything. I'll deal with her later. As for the job, just save a spot for me. I'll be there tomorrow!"

Hearing this, Liu Ergou simply nodded and prepared to leave.

But then Feng Chunling suddenly added, "Oh, Er Gou, could you bring in that package Mei left outside for me? It's so big, it must be full of her clothes!"

Liu Ergou nodded and, without another word, picked up the package at the entrance and started walking into the yard.

Yang Mei, already seething, exploded at the sight. "Liu Ergou, put my things down! Don't touch my stuff, do you hear me? Anything you touch is disgusting to me!"

Hearing her words, Liu Ergou's patience finally wore thin. From the moment Yang Mei had stepped into this yard, she had been hostile and critical. He hadn't said a single word in response, but now she was saying this just because he picked up a package.

At this thought, a mischievous grin spread across Liu Ergou's face. He turned to Yang Mei and said, "You tell me not to touch it, so I won't? That would make me lose face! I'm going to touch your package today. If you've got the guts, why don't you just throw your bag away?"

Yang Mei nearly exploded with rage. Seeing she was about to blow her top, Liu Ergou added fuel to the fire.

"I'm telling you, Yang Mei, if there's something about me you don't like, come and hit me!" As he spoke, he even gave her a provocative look.

Between his actions and his words, Yang Mei was so furious she was rendered speechless. Finally losing control, she stood up and charged at Liu Ergou, looking as if she were ready to fight him to the death.

With quick reflexes, Feng Chunling grabbed Yang Mei and held her back, preventing her from rushing forward.

Looking at the enraged Yang Mei, Er Gou laughed out loud and then sized her up with an aggressive gaze. Under the light from the house, he finally got a clear look at her. It was clear that Yang Mei had inherited Feng Chunling's beauty, as well as her temper.

Calling her a little firecracker is spot on. I've never tasted a little firecracker like her before. This is the perfect chance to find out what this Yang Mei is really like.

With that thought, Liu Ergou aimed and tossed the package he was holding toward the doorway. Then he turned and left.

Seeing Liu Ergou leave without the slightest hesitation, Feng Chunling felt her heart sink.

He's angry.

If Liu Ergou is angry, does that mean my job offer is gone? The job is a small matter, but what if he comes looking for me again later?

With this in mind, Feng Chunling ignored the fuming Yang Mei and hurriedly chased after him. Liu Ergou had just stepped out of Feng Chunling's main gate when she caught up to him before he could take a second step.

"Er Gou, don't be mad!" Feng Chunling said immediately. "Yang Mei does have a temper, but..."

She hadn't finished before Liu Ergou cut her off. "Auntie, I'm not angry. You're overthinking it. Look at the time. If I don't get back now, my sister-in-law will start to worry."

Hearing this, Feng Chunling finally registered her surroundings. She looked up at the sky and realized it was pitch black. It was indeed very late. At this realization, she finally breathed a sigh of relief. It was good that he wasn't angry.

As Liu Ergou prepared to leave, Feng Chunling stopped him once again.

Liu Ergou sighed, feeling a wave of helplessness. "What is it now, Auntie? Why are you stopping me again?"

Feng Chunling smiled sheepishly. "Well, Er Gou, I was wondering if your boss still needs people. If so, could you arrange a position for my Mei, too? She's out of work right now... so..." She looked at Liu Ergou expectantly.

However, Liu Ergou refused her without a moment's hesitation. "There are openings, but none that would suit Mei. Forget it. It's better if you just come alone."

Upon hearing this, Feng Chunling's expression froze.
