Chapter 209 Skirt
A woman's voice suddenly rang out from inside the shop.
"Sales assistant? Sales assistant? Is there an assistant here?"
"Help me get this dress, I want to try it on!"
Hearing the call, the sales assistant shot Liu Ergou and Liu Yunxi a huge eye-roll before turning to walk away.
Seeing this, Liu Ergou was furious and was about to go give her a piece of his mind, but Liu Yunxi grabbed him just as he took a step.
Frowning, Liu Yunxi said, "Forget it, Er Gou. There's no need to bother with people like that."
"If a dog bites you, are you going to bite it back?"
Hearing her logic, Liu Ergou decided she was right. He said nothing more and ignored the sales assistant.
The two then walked further into the shop and began to look at the clothes.
Liu Ergou knew nothing about women's fashion. He just stood there looking around, quickly growing bored. He squatted down and started fiddling with his phone. He had been so busy with various things that he'd never had a chance to properly explore it. He finally had some free time today, making it the perfect opportunity.
In contrast to Liu Ergou, Liu Yunxi came alive the moment she entered the shop. She began to wander about, picking up pieces of lingerie that caught her eye to size them up, looking like a seasoned shopper.
After just a few minutes, Liu Yunxi found herself in front of a white lace princess dress. A look of sheer amazement flashed in her eyes. There was no denying it; the dress was gorgeous.
Her sudden stillness caught Liu Ergou's attention. He looked up and saw Liu Yunxi standing before a dress, completely lost in thought. Curious, he walked over.
When he saw the dress that had captivated her, he couldn't help but nod in approval.
"Yun Xi, I'm surprised. You have excellent taste," he said. "This dress is beautiful, and it would look perfect on you. Why don't you take it down and try it on?"
Hearing Liu Ergou's praise, Liu Yunxi's heart leaped with joy for a moment before she composed herself. She hadn't forgotten that she was here to help him buy clothes for his sister-in-law, not for herself.
So, she decisively refused. "No way, Er Gou. Why would I try it on? We're here to buy clothes for your sister-in-law. It wouldn't be right for me to be trying things on."
Liu Ergou was about to say something, but Liu Yunxi cut him off.
"Forget it, Er Gou, let's just go. We shouldn't buy clothes here. I took a quick look around, and the prices are generally quite high."
"Really, let's just go somewhere else!"
With that, Liu Yunxi tugged Liu Ergou's arm and began to lead him toward the shop's exit.
Hearing her words, Liu Ergou couldn't help but feel curious.
Expensive? How expensive could it be? In our small county town, an item of clothing costing four to five thousand is already a sky-high price. Could it possibly cost more than ten thousand?
With that thought, his gaze shifted to the price tag hanging from the dress. When he saw it, his eyebrows shot up. He had thought the dress might be a good deal at four or five thousand, but to his utter surprise, the price was 18,888.
This completely baffled Liu Ergou. He had never seen such an expensive dress in his entire life.
Although the price was certainly shocking, it wasn't a major issue for the current Liu Ergou. Besides, from his perspective, the dress was a perfect fit for Liu Yunxi. Even if he didn't get it for his sister-in-law, it would be a great purchase for Liu Yunxi.
After a moment's thought, Liu Ergou didn't hesitate. "Sales assistant!" he shouted. "Could you come over here, please!"
The sales assistant who had walked away earlier heard his call but didn't come over. Instead, she merely glanced at them out of the corner of her eye. Then, she turned to a younger girl beside her and said disdainfully, "There are two country bumpkins over there. Go and get rid of them."
As the young girl was about to go, the senior sales assistant stopped her again. "And another thing," she added, "watch them. Don't let their dirty hands touch our dresses. You know how much they cost!"
The sales assistant spoke loud enough for everyone in the shop to hear, making it obvious her words were aimed at Liu Ergou and Liu Yunxi. In the next second, all eyes in the shop turned to them. The comment made the thin-skinned Liu Yunxi lower her head in embarrassment. Liu Ergou, however, showed little reaction, acting as if he hadn't noticed everyone's stares.
Seeing Liu Ergou remain so unfazed, the sales assistant couldn't resist another jab. "People from the countryside sure are thick-skinned. I have to admit, I'm impressed! So poor they can barely rub two coins together, yet they're still trying to browse designer boutiques. As if we have nothing better to do!"
This remark was also spoken loudly. After her tirade, the sales assistant turned and walked away without a second thought.
Liu Yunxi carefully tugged at Liu Ergou's shirt. "Er Gou, maybe we should just leave!"
"It's..."
Before he could finish, Liu Ergou gently patted her hand, signaling her to calm down and not be afraid.
Just then, the young sales assistant approached them. "Hello, sir," she said politely. "How may I help you?"
Liu Ergou didn't beat around the bush. He pointed to the dress priced at 18,888 and said, "Take that dress down. My friend would like to try it on to see if it fits."
Hearing this, the young sales assistant froze on the spot, completely at a loss. She instinctively looked back at the senior sales assistant who had sent her over, but she received no response. That sales assistant was now pulling out all the stops, attending to another woman trying on dresses—a woman who was regally dressed and obviously wealthy.
Receiving no guidance, the young sales assistant looked back at Liu Ergou, unsure of what to do. She could only lower her head, responding to him with silence.
This made Liu Ergou frown. He could see, however, that this girl was clearly new, so there was no need to make things difficult for her.
He spoke bluntly, "We want to try on this dress. If it fits, we'll buy it on the spot. You don't need to worry about anything else."
Upon hearing this, the young sales assistant's eyes lit up.
