Director in Hollywood

Chapter 126: Chapter 125

Although The Rock had military consultants from the Pentagon, and the tactics used in the movie were quite accurate, some compromises were made for artistic effect.

For instance, the green glass spheres containing the VX gas didn't match real-world safety standards. In reality, such a dangerous chemical wouldn't be contained in something as fragile as a glass sphere. However, for the sake of making it look more frightening to viewers, they went with that setup.

Another interesting tidbit is that during filming on Alcatraz, Roger Moore, one of the main actors, asked the crew to build him a small cabin on the island. That way, he could stay there instead of commuting back and forth between the city and Alcatraz each day. The crew agreed to his request, letting him stay on the island.

Additionally, Roger Moore included a line in The Rock that referenced his James Bond films, a little gift for longtime fans.

Just before Christmas, the last scene of The Rock was filmed, showing Nicolas Cage as Goodspeed meeting Roger Moore's character, John Mason, for the first time.

"Nicolas, whether the crew wraps up successfully depends on you today," Gilbert said to Nicolas Cage before filming.

Nicolas Cage felt the pressure right away. "Gilbert, saying that makes me feel pretty nervous!"

"Haha, don't worry; you've been doing well recently. I believe in you."

Though Nicolas wasn't fully confident in himself, he managed a smile. Yet, even he couldn't predict how he'd perform that day. But, unexpectedly, he was in perfect form during the scene.

In the interrogation room, Nicolas Cage's side profile faced the camera as he entered, and across from him, Roger Moore sat ready.

"Hi," Nicolas said, capturing his character's nervous energy with a small stutter. "I'm a federal... a Federal Bureau of... Bureau of Investigation agent, my name is Stanley Goodspeed."

The director and FBI supervisor, watching from outside the glass, joked, "At least he got his name right."

John Mason tilted his head slightly. "F*ck, of course you are. Otherwise, would you be in here with me?"

Unlike the suave James Bond, John Mason, who'd been locked up for thirty years, was rough around the edges, with a penchant for swearing.

Goodspeed reacted accordingly, instinctively shrinking at Mason's cursing.

Gilbert was pleased with the take. When Nicolas Cage was in good form, his performance was nearly unbeatable, Oscar-worthy. However, on off days, his inconsistency could be frustrating, leaving people wondering if the Nicolas Cage from one scene was the same Nicolas Cage in another.

The banter between the two characters included some improvised lines from the actors, which turned out to be highly effective.

After Goodspeed sat down, Mason said, "Coffee."

Goodspeed refused, saying, "No, I don't drink coffee."

"F*ck," Mason pounded the table, startling the guards. "I said, I want coffee."

Goodspeed was startled too, then quickly recovered and said, "Oh, yes, I was just about to ask if you'd like one."

He turned to the guards, calling, "Can we get this gentleman a coffee?"

As the guards left to get the coffee, Mason requested that his handcuffs be removed. Goodspeed objected but, under Mason's intense gaze, reluctantly shouted, "Someone take off his cuffs."

At the same time, Nicolas Cage made a small adjustment, subtly moving his chair back a bit, closer to the door.

These humorous touches came from the actors' improvisations. Gilbert, not being a rigid director, respected the actors' creativity on set. If he liked an idea, he kept it, allowing it to remain in the final cut.

With this scene complete, the crew of The Rock officially wrapped filming, bringing three and a half months of hard work to a close.

When Gilbert announced the wrap, the whole crew erupted into applause and cheers. Soon, flowers were presented to the last two actors to film, and producer Charles Roven wheeled out a cake, asking Gilbert to cut it, after which everyone gathered for a big group photo.

"I have to say, ladies and gentlemen, working with you has been an honor. This movie isn't just my creation; it's the result of all our efforts. Thank you all for the hard work you've put in over these past few months. Charles has even rented out a club for us to celebrate tonight, so let's party all night long!"

Gilbert's closing words sparked enthusiastic cheers from the crew, who were excited to release the pressure that had built up over the past month.

After cutting the cake, the crew quickly packed up and headed straight to the club, leaving behind the film's materials and props.

But when they arrived, they noticed Gilbert wasn't there with them, even though some were planning to get him drunk that night!

However, everyone soon forgot Gilbert's absence because Nicolas Cage had invited numerous tall, blonde models. Taking into account the female crew members, he'd also brought along some handsome male models.

Art director Selena Heffey seemed pleased, enjoying the company of two attractive men in a corner. Even Sophia was seen with a male model, smoking and looking like her night wouldn't be dull.

Nicolas Cage asked Charles Roven, "Where's Gilbert?"

Charles shrugged. "This kind of event? Gilbert never attends."

"Why?" Nicolas was curious.

Charles raised an eyebrow and speculated, "Maybe his three girlfriends showed up!"

In fact, Gilbert's three girlfriends had come over. With Christmas approaching, Gilbert temporarily put post-production on hold to spend it in San Francisco before heading back to Los Angeles. So, Naomi Watts, Cameron Diaz, and Charlize Theron had decided to bring an early Christmas gift to Gilbert: themselves.

"Sally, bring in the clothes I bought. Thank you. And you should take a bath too!" Naomi Watts called from the bathroom of the suite.

Gilbert was sitting with Charlize Theron, watching TV in the suite's living room, his hand resting on her waist.

Despite being quite open-minded, Charlize couldn't help but blush, even though she and Gilbert had been together several times.

Hearing Naomi's voice, Charlize took the chance to escape Gilbert's grasp before he could react, leaving him momentarily puzzled.

But he quickly pulled Charlize back and asked, "Sally, what are you three up to? Is there some conspiracy?"

"Ah? No, no," she replied, her face still slightly flushed. "You'll see soon enough. I promise you'll like it. Just trust me."

While Gilbert was pondering, Charlize freed herself again, this time without giving him a chance to catch her.

She laughed as she said, "Prepare yourself for your punishment!"

After saying this, she left with a large bag, heading into the bathroom and preventing Gilbert from peeking inside.

"What are these three planning?" Gilbert wondered.

"Could it be that I've been too flirtatious and made them mad?" he mused. "Even a large bathroom would be cramped with three people."

Just as he was deep in thought, the bathroom door creaked open, interrupting him.

Gilbert looked up and felt his pulse quicken, his breathing becoming heavier.

Naomi Watts came out dressed as a maid, her skirt so short that even the slightest movement would reveal too much. She batted her eyelashes, her red lips whispering seductively, "Sir, do you need my services?"

Cameron Diaz appeared next, dressed as a nurse, wearing a white miniskirt, paired with black stockings and holding a large syringe. She lifted her skirt slightly, revealing a heart-shaped design underneath.

"Patient, looks like you need a shot!" Cameron laughed.

Finally, Charlize Theron emerged as a police officer, her long legs accentuated by a tailored uniform and stockings, with hints of sensuality just visible.

"Criminal, it seems your offenses are severe. I'll need to discipline you myself," she said, adopting a serious face.

Gilbert was dumbfounded. "Is this cosplay?"

The three women surrounded him, making him forget everything else.

Naomi took his hand and placed it on her waist. Cameron's high heel brushed his thigh, and Charlize guided him to interact with her.

Gilbert finally understood the allure of cosplay, which tapped into one's deepest desires.

No longer holding back, he embraced the moment with passion, beginning a night of fervent conquest.

Though it was winter, the suite felt like spring had arrived, filled with warmth and life.
