Chapter 190: Chapter 189: As of today, I'm in charge! (2)

It was none other than Michael Carter, Carter's twin brother.

But seeing his sister's now burly physique, Michael couldn't help but feel intimidated. When they were kids, his little sister had been able to beat him up. Now that she was so big...

"Long time no see, dear brother. I think you owe me an explanation for your current situation," Carter said with a smile that sent shivers down Michael's spine.

As her twin, Michael immediately understood the meaning behind her words; she wanted an account of everything that had happened since his disappearance.

"Of course, Peggy! None of it was voluntary. During my mission, my plane went down in Yugoslavia. I was rescued by the Communist Party of Yugoslavia, but I lost all my memories due to the crash. Since I couldn't remember anything, I ended up staying with them. Because of my abilities, I became an agent for Zodiac... but all this happened while I was suffering from amnesia!" Michael explained in a flash.

"Very convincing. But how did your memory come back?" Carter nodded, accepting his explanation, but still cautious.

"You can see my condition for yourself. The Wakandans were very interested in the Zodiac serum in our systems. Although their research hasn't made much progress in the past year, they accidentally cured my amnesia," Michael replied.

"I see. Prove it by telling me something only we would know," Carter demanded, her tone firm.

"Of course! In 1927, the Dragon Quest game," Michael replied without hesitation.

This was a childhood nightmare for Michael—back then, Carter was alone on the lawn playing a hero versus dragon game. It was the kind where the princess is kidnapped by a dragon and the knight comes to her rescue.

But young Carter didn't see herself as the princess—she was the knight!

At that point, Michael, who was already a head taller than Carter, sneaked up behind her and grabbed Carter's wooden sword. In response, Carter knocked him over and pinned him to the ground.

From that moment on, he had never won against his younger sister.

It could be said that this was his childhood trauma.

"Very good! Michael, you just avoided a beating!" Hearing Michael talk about her childhood, Carter finally smiled. Then she raised the sword in her hand and slashed open the isolation room to the surprise of the three men.

"If you want to stay alive, keep up!" Carter said as she walked out without looking back.

She wanted to support her two comrades. Even though they were super-soldiers, Carter couldn't shake a feeling of unease.

Michael and his two companions, along with Fritz and his group—who had also been rescued by Carter—exchanged glances and followed her without hesitation.

...

At the same time in New York.

It was about 4:00 p.m. in Wakanda, while it was about 9:00 a.m. in New York.

At New York, nine council members had gathered.

This meeting had been initiated by Calvin Chadwick.

"So, Calvin, why did you call us here all of a sudden?" Thomas, sitting in the main chair, asked Calvin, who was sitting to his left.

"Everyone, I have called this meeting to share some good news. There has been a breakthrough in zero matter research!" Calvin Chadwick announced proudly as he stood up.

"Oh? That's excellent news. Show us!" Thomas exchanged glances with the other Council members, including Josh, and replied.

"Allow me to introduce the chief scientist of the Isodyne Group's Zero Matter Project—Dr. Jason Wilkes!" Calvin introduced as a man in a sharp suit—a black man—walked in from the side door.

The moment the man appeared, all the Council members instinctively frowned.

A black man? What was Calvin Chadwick thinking? That was the first thought that crossed their minds.

After all, whether it was the club or the council, one of the main requirements for membership was to be a pure white individual—without a trace of mixed heritage.

But now Calvin had openly brought a black man into the club, breaking that taboo.

Even if he was a scientist.

"Ah, Jason, it seems the council is not pleased to see you," Calvin said in a playful tone, noticing the expressions of the members.

"I think they'll accept me soon enough," Jason replied with a faint smile, raising his right hand. A strange black liquid appeared in his palm.

As soon as the black substance appeared, all of the Council members except Hugh Jones shivered. The temperature in the room seemed to drop several degrees instantly.

"Calvin, what are you doing?" Sensing danger, Thomas, the council leader, asked Calvin sharply.

"What am I doing? Changing the world, of course!" Calvin scoffed. "And the first step begins here, with the Council. As of today, I'm in charge!"

"You're dreaming!" Thomas shouted angrily. "Guards!"

At his command, several armed men burst into the room.

But before they could act, Jason moved. The black liquid in his hand shot out, quickly expanding and engulfing the guards in an instant.

In a matter of seconds, the trained guards were completely gone.

"Do you see this? This is zero matter. This is power!" Calvin laughed maniacally. "Jason, take care of him!"

At Calvin's command, the Zero Matter flew towards Thomas, swallowing him completely amidst his screams.

"Now I am in charge of the Council. Who is with me and who is against me?" Calvin's cold gaze swept over the remaining seven council members, finally stopping his eyes on Josh, the person he disliked the most.

"Fascinating... What do you think, Hugh?" Josh smiled faintly and looked at Hugh Jones sitting across from him.

"Tch, just a power-drunk fool," Hugh replied dismissively.

Except for the two of them, the others, including Wilfred Malick, lowered their heads in fear, intimidated by the power Jason had displayed.

"You two are asking for death!" Calvin ordered angrily, "Jason, get rid of them!"

The black matter flew at Josh and Hugh.

But this time it didn't go as Calvin and Jason expected. Just as the Zero Matter was about to hit, Hugh Jones turned into a blood mist and disappeared from his seat with a loud bang.

Meanwhile, Josh simply disappeared in a flash of light.

This shocking turn of events left Calvin stunned.

The rest of the Council could only lament their own helplessness and curse Josh and Hugh for escaping while they remained trapped.

Little did they know that the two weren't as carefree as they seemed. Josh reappeared at a secret Ouroboros base in Chicago, accompanied by Vito, whom he had secretly alerted earlier.

Both of them clutched toilets and sinks, vomiting uncontrollably. The effects of teleportation were not pleasant.

As for Hugh, he reappeared in a building next to the club in New York and fed on the previous occupant to recover. The escape spell he had used was effective, but consumed considerable energy.

For now, the remaining Council members could only fake compliance with Calvin and hope that Josh and Hugh had a plan for the future.
