Chapter 52 Connection
The moment Li Lin heard those four words, he felt his blood turn cold.
Just a moment ago, he was feeling regret over Yu Sheng's death due to a monster's ambush, and the next moment, he felt he might not live any longer than him.
"How could this be... The data never mentioned anything about a Dark Angel parasitizing this place..." Li Lin murmured to himself. Under that indifferent gaze from the sky, he felt more and more noisy chaos emerging in his mind, "How could this be..."
"In a dormant state, every Dark Angel has different characteristics... This is even worse than continuing to fight with the Angel Sect in the wasteland!" Xu Jiali couldn't help but curse, he couldn't figure out how his routine recon mission at the Boundary Land on his way back from official duties turned so dire so quickly.
Everything was beyond his expectation—falling into the Exotic Realm all of a sudden, seeing that "Door Monster" he had encountered once in the wasteland planet, also standing beside him a puppet about a half-meter tall and a demon fox that looked as though it had been exiled for a century. Before he could exchange a few words, that mysterious "Door Monster" simply and brutishly died in front of him, the puppet's reaction was also outrageously abnormal, then came more Hunger Entities, and now a Dark Angel has appeared in the sky...
He couldn't conjure in his entire life's imagination the bizarre series of events that happened today!
Uneasy growls from the Wolf Pack came from all around, the wolves made of shadows prowled and circled around, and under the watchful eye of that indifferent gaze from the sky, these eerie creatures all felt tremendous pressure and even fear. However, Little Red Riding Hood riding one of the wolves frowned and said, "Strange, why aren't those creatures coming over?"
Erin, who was being held by Hu Li, was startled by this remark and also noticed something amiss.
Those Blood Flesh Giant Beasts gathered around the ruined temple were still roaring and prowling in confusion, but oddly, since a while ago until now, not one beast had stepped forward or launched an attack.
The indifferent, floating One-eyed in the sky merely watched silently, apparently without any intention of taking further action.
"I think we'd better take this chance to run," Li Lin broke the silence, "Let's not worry about why these creatures are zoned out."
Little Red Riding Hood cut off Li Lin's words, speaking calmly: "Run where?"
The indifferent One-eyed in the sky watched every inch of the valley, while the entire Exotic Realm was changing as if coming to life under the gaze of that eye, any thought of escape was instantly crushed by the despair of having nowhere to hide or flee.
But just then, Erin seemed to remember something, raising her head from Hu Li's embrace: "You just mentioned, has something similar happened before? It was the same when the Immortal died, your parents hid you in a cave that day?"
Hu Li was momentarily stunned, then hurriedly nodded.
"Where's that cave?!"
Finally snapping out of it, Hu Li turned around with Erin in her arms: "I remember! It's near the back mountain, I'll lead you there!"
But suddenly, she stopped in her tracks, hesitantly looking at Yu Sheng's body on the ground.
Savior's eyes are still open, looking quite unwilling to close in death.
"What about Savior... Savior, what should we do?" the demon fox girl asked somewhat helplessly.
Although she knew about Yu Sheng's "Resurrection," she was not aware of many details due to their limited time together last time, and Yu Sheng had not had the chance to explain much to her.
"Just leave it here, no need to attend to it," Erin immediately said, she, having communicated quite a bit with Yu Sheng, obviously knew more information than Hu Li, "It will be gone soon, he has a way to find me."
Hu Li stood dazed for a moment, then nodded blankly.
Erin then quickly remembered something else and hastily added: "Right, where's that kitchen knife I had just now... Oh, it's there on the ground, help me pick it up. Hey, put that oil painting on me first, I can't be separated from this painting... The knife isn't broken, is it? If it's not, that's fine, if I lose it he'll definitely blame me later—forget the corpse, it's useless..."
The little puppet rambled on with orders, and the demon fox girl carried them out with a dull obedience while Li Lin's trio on the side felt bizarre to the extreme, watching Hu Li carefully pick up a kitchen knife that at most would cost a hundred bucks in a supermarket, yet blatantly ignoring a companion's corpse on the ground. Little Red Riding Hood couldn't hold back any longer: "You're just going to leave him here like this?!"
Erin poked her head out from Hu Li's embrace: "It's hard to run with him!"
Little Red Riding Hood opened her mouth as if wanting to say something else but was interrupted by a rumbling coming from deep within the valley.
The distant mountain range cracked open, countless black boulders rolled down from the mountain top, and within the ever-widening fissures, flesh was forming from the mountain, grinding against the rocks with sharp teeth, producing a blood-chilling roar.
The woods shook, trees fell one after another as if shedding their disguise; numerous toothy tendrils grew out from where the trees had fallen, all roaring in unison.
And those Giant Beasts that had been prowling and falling into a bizarre, sluggish state around the damaged temple also seemed to be stimulated and began to unrest and agitate.
Seeing this, Erin cried out in alarm and vigorously patted Hu Li's shoulder with her remaining stump: "My god! We can't linger! We're bailing, those three over there can follow or not!"
Erin's words had just ended when Hu Li already had her in his arms, turning around and dashing towards the gap at the bottom of the valley, behind the ruins of the ruined temple.
Li Lin and the other two exchanged glances; despite the myriad of questions flooding their minds, there was now only one choice remaining.
They quickly followed the already distant fox, sprinting towards some "refuge."
Little Red Riding Hood looked back one last time, towards the direction where Yu Sheng had fallen.
Biting her teeth, a wolf broke away from the Wolf Pack and charged towards Yu Sheng's remains.
However, merely a few steps into its run, the wolf seemed to suddenly forget its purpose and stopped, then after wandering on the spot for two seconds, turned around and returned to the Wolf Pack beside Little Red Riding Hood.
Little Red Riding Hood didn't look back either, she just spurred the Wolf Pack to race along, guarding the others in the group while catching up with the strides of that Silver-haired Fox Demon ahead.
She had already forgotten the pool of blood she had left behind.
And around the ruins of the ruined temple, those restless Blood Flesh Giant Beasts had somehow quietly calmed down again.
These entities, born from "Hunger," seemed to have fallen into confusion; they stood among the ruins, their grotesquely proliferated eyes scanning around, their ugly limbs flailing aimlessly in the air, their giant mouths wide open, emitting muffled, dream-like mumblings from their fanged mouths.
Suddenly, one clear word intermingled within the indistinct murmurs of those Blood Flesh Giant Beasts—
"Delicious."
A will, voicing itself through their mouths.
Delicious.
It should feed.
The giants swayed, the eyes that had been aimlessly scanning around gradually ceased their blind movement, one after another their gaze settled, landing upon each other.
To feed, but not out of hunger.
That all-consuming, that supreme... feeding, yes, now was the time to feed.
Then came the icy tranquility and merciful eternity—for it ultimately devours all, the utmost fairness and end.
The first Blood Flesh Giant Beast moved; it staggered over to another entity, without any fancy attack movements, it simply opened the largest mouth on its body and bit down greedily.
But the one being chewed upon made no attempt to escape, nor did it howl in pain.
As if it didn't even realize it was being devoured by its "own kind," the creature just shook its body and stepped forward, with one of its "own kind" chewing on it, it stepped towards the closest entity.
Not a single "Entity-Hunger" tried to chase after those who had escaped—it was as if at some point just before, their very nature had changed—drawing the power of Hunger became an unimportant matter, the noble act of feeding became their sole mission.
In the center of the ruined temple ruins, the very last trace of Yu Sheng's blood was slowly seeping into the ground, where the blood spread, the soil's color was gradually changing, slowly at first, but then accelerating unstoppably.
Yet, that indifferent giant eye floating in the sky seemed to have no concern about these changes happening on the ground—it just hung high above, the giant eyeball devoid of any emotion or thought that humans could comprehend, it continuously watched over this valley, so massive that from the ground, it was impossible to determine where its "focal point" might be.
If the transcendent gaze even had a "focal point" to begin with.
But Yu Sheng felt that "focal point," because the gaze was now on him.
After drifting in darkness for a while, a certain indescribable "connection" snapped him awake. At first, he thought he had been resurrected, but soon, he realized he was still in a state of "death," except this time death seemed different than before.
He found that he had an extra "perspective" within the dark, at first, this perspective deeply confused him, with its bizarre angle and overlapping information throwing his thoughts into disarray—but gradually, he realized something.
He was responding to that gaze from the sky, through the eyes of this "Exotic Realm."
He had established a connection with this valley.
