Chapter 66: -Chapter 65-
Angemon swiftly swung his staff, hitting a pair of Digimon Child before dodging to the right and, using his momentum, slashing through another Digimon with his fist charged with holy energy, turning it into a pile of Data before he knew it.
The Angelic Digimon's expression showed not a hint of change as he cleansed the impurity of the world with his bare hands.
However, he could feel TK's slight revulsion pass through from his mental link.
The Angelic Digimon couldn't blame TK for feeling this way; the boy was a pure soul of light filled with kindness, mercy, and hope. Able to feel sorry for Digimon touched by Darkness and firmly believe in their redemption, and he couldn't really blame him; BlackGarurumon was living proof that a strong will and the right guidance can bring Light and Darkness into a balance where both forces propel each other to new heights.
If we could bring these poor Digimon to their redemption... perhaps the World could show them mercy in their next life.
Pushing the thoughts out of his head, Angemon went back to slaughtering the heretics who dared to challenge him in combat.
Or he would have, had he not had to block a sudden shower of lightning with his staff in a hurry.
The Angel let out a low growl as he felt the electricity pass through the staff and pass through his body without resistance, stunning him for a brief moment. The attack itself wasn't causing him much damage, but it was painful nonetheless.
When the rain ended, the Angel quickly visualized the small Digimon causing the attack.
Small in stature and dressed in eccentric clothing, a real wizard made his presence known in the forest, taking all the Angelic Digimon's attention. The wizard's dark blue cloak hid his facial features, except for his thin, sharp, dark green eyes that gazed wildly at Angemon.
"Hey, fella... hip... you're causing too much trouble..." The little wizard just hiccupped as he pulled a bottle out of nowhere and brought it to his mouth, only to find that there was no more alcohol left inside it. Staring at the bottle with a blank stare, the wizard took a couple of seconds before a look of realization passed through his eyes. "Oh... it's empty... hip..."
Letting out an exaggerated sigh, the wizard threw the bottle behind him, shattering it into a thousand pieces that scattered across the floor before they reformed into a sort of sun-shaped staff.
"I must... hip... stop you because... hip... you're causing trouble... hip..." The wizard seemed to wobble on his feet before humming to himself, scratching his hat. "Mnnn... didn't I say that already...?… hip..."
Shaking his head before Digimon, clearly drunk, but clearly an Adult Level Digimon, Angemon took no chances and quickly ended the encounter.
Angemon raised his fist in the air as he gathered holy energy and hurled it at the mage without batting an eye.
"Heaven's Knuckle!"
The mass of holy energy quickly launched itself at the paralyzed mage; Angemon didn't even need to know that the mage was paralyzed from his impending death.
However, the mage reacted unexpectedly.
"Magic Game!"
At the last moment he made a quick motion with his hands, creating what appeared to be a large mirror that absorbed Angemon's attack with ease. Another hand movement and the mirror turned a completely black color before multiplying around Angemon in less than a second.
Angemon barely managed to snap out of his stupor when a snap of fingers echoed throughout the forest.
Fire, lightning, and cutting winds were hurled at Angemon from all directions.
The Angelic Digimon swiftly swung his staff, blocking the vast majority of the attacks but unable to save himself from the barrage of relentless blows that rained down on him.
His wings, shoulders, legs, back, arms... his entire body was hit by some attack that he simply could not block.
It seemed like an eternity as he used all his mastery and practice to minimize the damage as much as possible.
"Haa... Haa..."
When the barrage of attacks finally ended, Angemon dropped to his knee while breathing heavily. Angemon looked up to see Wizardmon make more symbols with his staff and hands.
Another snap of fingers, and Angemon now found himself trapped in large chains that completely immobilized him. He tried to struggle, but the chains only seemed to become tighter on his limbs to the point of going from uncomfortable to painful.
"You don't think I'd take you on drunk, do you" Wizardmon spoke much more fluently than before and with a slightly sarcastic tone in his voice as he twirled his sun stick in his hand. "I'm not an idiot; I mean, I am, but I'm not stupid. Or at least not stupid enough to face an Angel of a Chosen Child face to face."
It was then that Angemon realized something.
TK wasn't around; although he could feel his link to him, he was clearly weakened.
He was not outside Piximon's house; Togemon and Mimi were not nearby.
Realization came to Angemon like a bolt of lightning. 'A barrier like Piximon's, weaker, but strong enough that I can't break it easily... or if I do, I'll be an easy target for Wizardmon.'
"You...tricked me" Angemon muttered as he tried and failed to free himself from the chains. Alarms began to ring in his head as he felt the chains begin to fill with electrical energy. "How...?"
Though Wizardmon wasn't powerful, he was smart, cunning, and subtle enough to place a barrier without the Angelic Digimon noticing.
This wasn't even the beginning of what the little wizard had planned.
Wizardmon smiled beneath the collar of his cloak as he put a finger to his lips.
"A good wizard never reveals all his tricks."
Angemon simply glared at Wizardmon before a torrent of holy energy was expelled from the Angel's body, destroying the chains that held him bound and forcing Wizardmon to create a makeshift barrier to keep from shooting backward.
"Holy Mantlel!"
Wizardmon's eyes widened in surprise as he watched the Angel's wounds heal rapidly. A golden white light was spreading throughout his body like tiny muscles pulsing with every second.
The Angel who was bleeding Data before was now standing as if nothing, looking at the little wizard with judgment in his eyes.
"Wizardmon" Angemon spoke with might and firmness as he expanded his holy domain around Wizardmon's barrier. A suffocating pressure took over as the holy energy twisted in on itself. "Why are you in league with the Darkness?"
Wizardmon fell silent as he narrowed his eyes dangerously at Angemon.
"Despite being surrounded by the disease that corrodes this World, you are not corrupted by it. Your soul is still as pure as any other Digimon's; you have not been seduced by the power or the sins of the other Digimon" Angemon stated as the healing aura disappeared, leaving an imposing Angel in front of the enigmatic mage. "So tell me, why?"
Wizardmon simply raised his staff without a word as energy from another dimension formed in his free hand.
Without another word, two different forces met each other.
