Devil Equinox

Chapter 59: HUNTED BY THE DAMNED

We flew out of the diner through the wall out in the street. On top of him I beat him deep into the ground. Not feeling any pain, he only smirked and knocked up into the sky. Marcus, Cordina, Carla and Henry stepped out of the diner and fought Ben.

How do I know his name, Thalicus – my slave – informed me of all that had happened in Amelia's apartment. I didn't know that he would have these powers. The Harlem has surely replicated these powers and even their biology. 'Wait, how did he even manage to…' I thought and left it to linger in mind.

Falling back down I analysed how those four fought. Cordina used her large blade swinging it gracefully, Henry went berserk with his butterfly swords slashing away and Carla used her Sai to inflict damage closely. Lastly, Marcus stood back watching the fight unfold and he gloated for a brief moment before a frown settled on his face.

I looked back at Ben, and he began to laugh as he was being attacked, cynical as it was. He looked like he wanted this and I realised that he planned to kill them all at once. I pulled my arms closer to my body and closed my legs to fall faster to the earth.

He forgot about me and I took my chance. The closer I got the faster I fell up to a point I spun myself to deliver a direct kick to the head, potentially killing him. At the apex he then looked up with his maniacal first and my leg met his face. The ground underneath him gave to the force and broke.

I knelt on one knee with my left arm on the knee pointed toward the sky.

The dust around us settled and there stood Ben's body, buried knees deep into the ground alive. "Wow! That was good," he said. "But not good enough!"

Rushing up to my feet I took a few steps back to assess my next movement, but something felt eerie. Then bang! A gunshot went off and the bullet grazed my arm; it was meant for some other part of my body.

Wincing through the pain, I looked back at the buildings behind us and didn't see anyone. No shadows up on the roofs, but I felt something still. Someone was there and then came the one person I didn't want to see, Igiris. He came with cavalry to aid his escapade.

"Oh! Ben, I didn't expect you here," he said surprised. "Well, no matter. He is what I am here for. Let him go and finish with these obstacles. Ito! You have done enough now, so leave it up to me!"

In the distance a few buildings away, silhouette rose from cover with a sniper rifle. It was Nagari. She stayed away because she knew that I would have killed her. It's funny how she only shot me and not any of the four I was with.

Then I had a scream. It was Carla with a fist through her chest. Ben impaled her and Cordina screamed feeling fear. Marcus's expression darkened and he attacked Ben. He was fast. Distracted, Igiris took the opportunity to attack me with my back turned.

Flying through the air, I felt disoriented. I looked above and Igiris was diving toward me feet first. Crashing into the ground hard, breaking it as well as him using my back as cushion for his landing. He then picked me up by the throat and his free hand turned to a large spike.

I tried fighting his grip, but he was slowly crushing my throat. I gritted my teeth, but his smile became sinister. "The boss sends his regard," he spoke slowly. Failing to scream, I thought this was it. However, Igiris suddenly let go of his and groaned fighting off a pain he had not felt in a long time.

On the ground I coughed a lot and looked up to find Marcus standing behind Igiris without an arm and he was badly bruised. He gave me a smug smile before Igiris cut him in half with his blade. "Argh! You wretch!" Igiris shouted and spat on Marcus' top half.

The pain I felt sprouting my arms out of my back was excruciating as I used that time to prepare my attack. Only a few steps away from me, I didn't have room to take off so instead I flew into him. My weapon of choice was my blade.

I exerted so much force with my legs against the ground giving me enough power to try and slash with my sword. His skin was tougher than I thought but it knocked him so far back to give me the chance to go after him.

We the same force to exert, I used my wings to thrust further until I was behind him. Switched to my gauntlets and I thrust my fist up his spine when he reached and hit him up to the sky. I followed him upward leaving dust in my wake. I soared higher than him and kept myself up there awaiting his arrival.

"Are you pissed because he killed an unlikely ally?" my Mind asked me.

"No, I am infuriated because I didn't stop it from happening!" my Body answered.

As he arrived, I sent him back down to the ground faster than he left it. I dove headfirst toward and thrust myself forward, and using the momentum I spun myself to deliver a blow with my right hand just before he hit the ground. He went deeper into the ground leaving a mould of himself in it.

'Shit, he is one tough enemy. Very formidable. Makes me wonder how The Harlem will be.' I thought but it was cut short by a now exhilarated murder machine.

"Oh my! I have found a formidable foe!" he chuckled. "Ben! Do not touch him!"

I looked back and saw that he was about to hit me. Marcus was in two, Carla had a hole in her, Cordina was stabbed through the chest with her own weapon and Henry was left skewered on the ground. I looked back at Igiris, my jaw clenched. I was no longer angry; I was furious and wanted to kill them both including that bitch Ito.

My injury was gone, since my body healed on its own. 'How could I have let this happen!' I shouted in my mind. And any sense of reasonability left my mind. I looked back at the diner and saw her. Her face painted with fear, worry and sadness. Amelia knew I was no longer going to be with her.
