Chapter 37
Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Shelter games
For the next two months, Alex focused on his training and occasional classes. Surprisingly the activities of the Tyrant gang died out so abruptly he felt suspicious about it but since nothing was going on, he couldn’t do anything about it. The few clashes held focused more on deviants and how deviants can get stronger.
According to the instructor, the safest way for a Deviant to get stronger is by training. While straining the mutant cells, the ability gets stronger as well but of course, this has a limit. The second method could be considered more dangerous but more effective. It involves forcefully mutating the deviant cells a second time, allowing the user ability to take a transformative change.
If increasing one’s proficiency is considered capable of increasing one’s ability by fifty percent, the forced mutation can be said to double the power of the deviant ability. Unfortunately, something this good comes with a condition. More than ninety-five percent of all those who go through this procedure fail. With fifty percent dying in the process and about forty-five percent becoming no different from the mutated beasts people fight. Less than five percent succeed and even amongst those five percent, many have their body structures altered and end up looking less human.
Some enter a state of madness in which they are barely sane and sometimes have intense mood swings. Some go on occasional rampages but then these people are considered the world’s greatest deviants because of their immense power. There are medications used to subdue the intense mental side effects but they can only do so much.
Right now, Alex was considering his future as a deviant. He wondered if he should go through the second mutation. Anyway, this was just a thought that crossed his mind but was quickly pushed aside.
Classes continued as usual practical classes continued using the virtual reality gaming platform created by the Volt organization. With extra two months passing by the military shelter games were coming up and the news had spread across the country.
The only states in the US solely populated by humans are Washington DC, Alaska, Texas, and California. Outside these four states, the other states are divided into various zones starting from yellow, brown, red, and black. Each notifies how dangerous the state is and what type of monster to expect.
.....
At the Yellow zones, humans and mutated beasts coexist with the occasional attack but not too constant. The beasts residing here are only wolf threat level so if these humans can hide properly and act safely they can stay without having to worry about attacks from mutated beasts. This is the condition of most states in the united states now. As the color rises so does the threat level, making many guardians unwilling to venture into these places.
A red and black zones it is expected that no human life form should exist there and the place is said to be completely in the hands of beasts.it is said that beasts of various threat levels reside in these places.
For the academy shelter games, many people have expressed their displeasure in contesting since the representatives of the big four are all in the Washington shelter. Many people considered it an unfair advantage and for that reason, they believed Alex and other members of the big four should not be allowed to compete but then a new video appeared on the military page where Alex and all representatives were in the room.
They were not happy with the decision people made for them but they didn’t deny the fact that fighting against freshers would be below their standards so they came up with a better idea.
What if they are allowed to compete as second-year recruits!
The request made in the video left people talking and in just an hour after uploading they had over a million views!. It was discussed by everyone and even discussed on news channels.
While many considered the Big Four representatives as cocky kids who are yet to acknowledge their limits, others considered them as Gods amongst their peers, pulling off the impossible! The only thing in common that the two groups have is that they both want their request to be accepted.
While many want to see them defeated, the others hope to see them win.
Either way that didn’t matter to them since they had more matters to deal with.
“I want to fight as scourge in the second year section of the competition” Alex said boldly, stunning Silver.
He suspected Alex would make such a request but he still found it shocking.
“I believe I deserve to know why at least” Silver said, making Alex gaze at him like he is some sort of idiot.
“Are you serious now?” Alex was truly shocked by the question and when Silver nodded in agreement, he was even shocked.
“I wish to get stronger as scorgue... I want to strengthen my ability for the future... Our future” Alex said calmly but Silver could tell he was serious.
Thinking about it, this is their best shot at becoming independent and breaking out of thre shadows of their families. If they can get someone like Alex who is skilled in Martial arts and also has two powerful deviant abilities, his strength should far surpass what many think. His potential right now can make him an S Rated deviant... With these little boosts, he should be able to go beyond the S ratings!
“I can get it done for you by calling in a favor but don’t you think it’s problematic if Scourge and Alex should take part in the same competition?” Silver said calmly.
“It is your job to make sure that never happens long enough for us to lose out” Alex said calmly.
“What?” Silver asked with a confused look on his face.
“You don’t believe we can win?” Silver asked with raised eyebrows.
