Chapter 11: Chapter 11 Diverging Paths
Su Mo swung his hammer backhanded, exploding a head with fierce aggression, knocking it to the ground.
At that moment, two more zombies lunged at him from both sides of the passage, crazily biting towards Su Mo's neck and shoulder.
Su Mo executed an over-the-shoulder throw, slamming the zombie from his left onto the ground. Seeing it trying to struggle up, he stomped on its head.
Then the zombie on the right side pounced as well, Su Mo used his hammer-holding right hand to block the attack, while his left hand supported its lower jaw, restraining the zombie.
He looked like he was exerting his full strength, and at this moment, his back was completely exposed.
Su Mo glanced at Lan Xi from the corner of his eye, in fact, he had the strength to deal with these two zombies. But he deliberately didn't finish them off quickly because he wanted to see Lan Xi's reaction.
If Lan Xi attacked him, then this woman could not stay; she had to be eliminated.
He hadn't killed her before purely for the sake of information.
However, at that moment, a zombie suddenly burst out from the room on Su Mo's right and lunged at him. Su Mo's eyes narrowed, no longer intending to pretend.
That's when Lan Xi shouted out.
"Be careful."
She rushed forward, slamming into the zombie.
Su Mo lifted his foot, ruthlessly stomping down, snapping the neck of the zombie beneath him, his left hand gripping the neck of the zombie in front of him, twisting with all his might.
"Crack!"
The two zombies were dealt with in the blink of an eye.
Su Mo ignored the struggling Lan Xi, picked up the backpack, and quickly ascended the stairs.
After dealing with that zombie, Lan Xi hurriedly followed; it was clear that this mall was no longer safe.
Soon Su Mo and Lan Xi reached the rooftop, and Su Mo immediately closed the rooftop door. He then began to carefully check every corner of the rooftop to see if zombies were hiding.
If he wasn't mistaken, the zombies in the mall hadn't fully appeared due to insufficient overlapping of dimensions earlier.
After completing the check, Su Mo found a spot against the wall to sit down, and as Lan Xi was about to approach,
Su Mo warned coldly, "Keep your distance from me."
"Why so cold? Didn't we even our scores? Sure, I locked you up first, but anyone would have done the same, considering a person who kills on the street so decisively. Anyone would instinctively feel danger. And later, you locked us up too, right?" Lan Xi said.
"You're right, but I don't want to be stabbed in the back," Su Mo replied with an expressionless face.
Hearing this, Lan Xi couldn't help getting irritated and said snappily, "If I wanted to stab, I had the chance just now."
"You should be grateful you didn't do that then, otherwise you would have been out of the game by now."
"Yeah, right," Lan Xi retorted with a face struggling to keep composure.
"Enough, you don't need to keep talking to me about that. I don't care what information you have, or what insider knowledge you have about this game. In a nutshell, I don't trust you because we've had issues, and you could turn on me at any moment."
"Are you an idiot? As if those people who are all polite on the surface, who flatter you left and right, won't stab you in the back?"
Lan Xi was also about to explode with anger, truly cursed with bad luck to have encountered such a suspicious person. If it weren't for all her teammates dying and her own fear of being alone, she would have walked away long ago.
"So what? If I'm by myself, won't I be fine?"
Su Mo remained indifferent, not because he didn't believe Lan Xi, but rather because he never planned to team up with anyone in the first place. He entered the game to seek some entertainment.
Lan Xi was left speechless by Su Mo's rebuff, almost to the point of anger. It was no easy task to find a group of teammates, only for them to die right at the start of the game. Of course, there was no room for conflict, since at the beginning, no one knew each other, and it was normal for disputes to arise over safety and interests. It was nothing more than inferior skills.
This guy was a master player no matter how you looked at it; teaming up might turn misfortune into a blessing. But the problem was, he just refused to form a team with her.
"Hmph, just keep going alone then, you'll suffer a huge loss sooner or later. This game requires teamwork," Lan Xi retorted angrily, then sat down directly opposite Su Mo.
Su Mo ignored her and rested for a while before standing up and walking to the edge of the rooftop. He peered down and could vaguely discern countless shadows moving below. From afar, screams could occasionally be heard; in this silent city, they were especially clear. Then he fell into deep thought.
"Stop looking. If you go out now, it's a hundred percent certain death. No matter how skilled you are, you can't withstand the sheer number of them. We can only wait for daylight; maybe those monsters will retreat."
Lan Xi couldn't help speaking out.
"You think these are the zombies from our country? These are foreign zombies, not afraid of sunlight," Su Mo replied calmly.
Lan Xi was taken aback and for a moment, didn't know how to respond to Su Mo. It seemed there was some truth to it; she had thought daylight was safe and would allow one to log out.
Su Mo didn't continue to pay attention to Lan Xi; he sat back down and slowly closed his eyes. Although they couldn't leave now, this place was relatively safe, and taking a rest was still not a problem.
Time passed bit by bit, and as the dawn's sunlight spread,
Su Mo opened his eyes to find that he had begun to feel hungry, so he took out biscuits and water from his backpack and began to eat.
Lan Xi was awakened by the noise and saw Su Mo eating; she took a pack of beef jerky from her own backpack, opened it, and started to eat.
Before Lan Xi finished eating, Su Mo had already stood up.
Lan Xi quickly packed up the remaining food and also got to her feet.
Su Mo looked at Lan Xi and said, "You don't have to follow me, we'll go our separate ways here. I've observed that this shopping mall has five floors, and there are two buildings adjacent to the back, left, and right sides, three and four floors high, respectively. With a rope, you can get down. Don't say I'm unkind, letting you choose which way to go."
Lan Xi, suppressing her frustration, stubbornly replied, "Choose? Fine, who's afraid? I'll take the four-story one."
After hearing her choice, Su Mo immediately went to the left side, secured the rope, and slid down it without hesitation.
Seeing Su Mo depart, Lan Xi felt a sense of loss but had no other choice; she headed toward the right side. After all, the man had made his stance clear, and she couldn't just shamelessly keep following him, could she?
Anyway, isn't dying by any other strike still death?
At this moment, Su Mo landed smoothly on the rooftop of that building. The door on the rooftop was not closed but left wide open.
He walked in holding a hammer, and as soon as he reached the staircase corner, a zombie lunged at him. Su Mo leaned back to dodge and smashed the creature's head with a hammer blow.
Then, two more zombies charged at him.
Su Mo's expression was extremely cold, and his thoughts were incredibly calm as he faced them head-on.
His strikes were fast! Precise! Ruthless!
One hammer blow per zombie.
He was like a god of slaughter.
