Chapter 16: Chapter 16
Destiny
We walked through the dark forest on foot. Truth be told, it wasn't easy walking for hours.
As a princess, walking isn't my thing. I just clung to June like a scared cat.
"Fuck, I hate the dark," I mumbled, and June giggled.
"Come on, Destiny. You can hold on to me if you're scared. I'll keep you safe," Kelvin smirked, and I glared at him.
We kept walking for what felt like forever. I was getting tired and sleepy too.
"We need to rest," I said.
Lex sighed and gave me a look I couldn't understand.
"What's up with him?" I thought.
"Okay, guys, let's rest here. It's getting darker, and it's not safe," Lex said.
"Finally," I mumbled, feeling relieved.
Camila held our tent bag, handing each of us our tent.
"Did anyone bring food, or are we starving?" Nixton groaned.
"Yeah, sure. It's with me," Camila said, putting her hand into the bag and removing some bread.
"That's all I could take," she added.
"Don't worry; we're going to share. Right, Nixton?" I said, opening my eyes wide, trying to signal him to share with us.
"Oh, yeah, of course," he smiled, and Sofie just stared like a lost puppy.
"You're one of us now," Nixton winked at Sofie, giving her some slices of bread, and she nodded like an innocent baby.
June helped set up our tents, and I sat quietly, looking at the beautiful stars.
"I'm happy to be here, Mother," I said silently.
"You must really love her," I heard Lex say, taking a seat beside me.
"Of course, she's my mother," I mumbled.
"I love her so much, and I know she would be proud of me," I added with a smile.
Lex stared at me for a while and smiled.
"Of course, she will be proud. We just need to stay safe and not die," he frowned.
"Why do you say that?" I asked.
"Mmm, Destiny, this is not child's play. We are going to face more danger on our journey. The house was just the beginning," he smirked.
"I studied the map, and I discovered we are just in the shallow place. We aren't even in the middle of our journey," he added.
"I know that, Alex. I know," I smiled.
"Demons and all, I'm really scared," I added.
"I'll protect you," he said, giving me a serious look, and I giggled.
"You talked to me today," I smiled.
"Well, I might not tomorrow," he winked, and I frowned.
"Seriously?" I mumbled, feeling hurt in some way.
"Just kidding," he smiled.
"But why are you being nice tonight?" I asked.
"I guess I'll just start being wicked," he giggled, and I laughed out loud.
"Can't we have a little rest?" Gold yelled, opening his tent angrily and closing it back.
"Well, let's sleep before we wake up the demons next," I giggled.
"Goodnight, tiny," he winked and left.
"Did he just call me tiny?" I smiled, blushing hard.
The light of the sunset flashed through my eyes as I opened them, rubbing the sleep from under them. I looked to my right, and June was still fast asleep.
"Sleeping head," I mumbled. I tried turning my phone on, but it was dead.
"Damn," I said, feeling sick about all of this. It's just a matter of time; nothing stays permanent.
I walked out of the tent. Nixon was sitting beside Camila on a rock; I could tell they were having a deep conversation. I spotted Lex coming towards me with a dead deer. I smiled at him, and he returned it.
"Finally, I won't starve from hunger," Nixon said, and Camila giggled.
"Foodie," she whispered in his ear.
"Let's get this done. No time to waste around," Lex mumbled.
"I'll help make the fire," Nixon replied.
I walked up to them and sat beside Camila. June came out, looking tired as she rubbed her eyes and approached us.
"You won't believe it. I had the weirdest dream last night," Sofie mumbled, emerging from her tent.
"Please tell me about it," I said sarcastically, and she rolled her eyes.
I could sense that she knows I dislike her for no reason. I just had a feeling she was bad luck or something.
"Hey, June. Don't be rude," Kelvin said, and I glared at him.
"Easy there. I mean no harm, I just want to fit in with you all," Sofie said innocently.
I could hear giggles from Camila and June, maybe making fun of me or something.
"We're in danger," Sofie muttered.
"We need to leave here now," she added.
"Wow. Now I can see the new girl giving orders," I smirked.
"Stop being rude and get your booty packing," she frowned.
"And who the hell are you to tell me that?" I stood up, walking towards her. Kelvin grabbed my left hand, looking furious.
"What's gotten into you, Destiny?" he yelled.
"We all need to go now; something is coming. I saw them in my dream," Sofie said.
"Okay, princess," Nixon giggled.
"Fine, let's get packing," Lex replied with his deep voice, as usual.
I left angrily, going back to my tent. She showed up from nowhere and started giving us orders as if she's some kind of boss, I thought to myself. I picked up my clothes, putting them inside my bag.
"Destiny, you should stop with your attitude." I immediately knew it was Lex.
I turned my back to face him, without saying a word for a moment.
"I don't trust her," I said, unblinking, and he sighed.
"And I don't trust anybody, even myself," he mumbled.
"Huh?"
"Come on, let's leave now," he smiled.
Before I could say anything, I heard the others shouting, and Camila came rushing in.
"Lex, June, look! Dead people are running towards our direction," she said.
I ran out of the tent, and a gasp escaped my lips. Thousands of dead, ugly people with blood all over their bodies. They looked scarier than demons.
"What are they?" Nixon mumbled.
"I don't know."
