Chapter 484: Slipping Morality

A splash.

A rush.

A burst of heat.

Something exploded from the lava.

Thin. Long. Serpentine.

A monster shaped for speed and violence, with jaws snapping open as it lunged straight for his throat.

He didn't even have time to scream.

Back at the hideout, the room erupted.

"YEEEES!" Calypso cheered with arms shooting upwards.

"GET 'EM MELTY!" Luna whooped, punching the air like she was cheering for her favorite sports team instead of a molten wyrm committing cruel murder.

Nyx laughed darkly. "Oh, that was beautifully gruesome."

Even Bastet, normally the proud queen type, let out a pleased hum. "Such an amazing murder machine. Just look at her body… She's been created for this exact environment."

"A brutal predator thriving in her natural habitat," Aria nodded along sagely.

Kaiden blinked.

Yeah… their morality was going downhill.

Fast.

A few weeks ago, they were bubbly, innocent girls who couldn't imagine committing murder. But now…

Then again…

These people came here fully intending to kill them, torture them, capture them, or worse.

Maybe it wasn't immoral to celebrate the downfall of threats.

Maybe it was just… survival with extra spice.

This was their life now, whether they liked it or not. So why not have fun while at it?

"Melty is best girl!" Luna declared proudly, hugging her knees like an excited gremlin.

Nyx snorted. "Since when did that abyssal wyrm turn into a doggy?"

Aria looked dreamily at the screen, sighing like she was watching a romance drama instead of a melting human. "I wanna pet her head… She's so loyal and efficient. I have to agree with the gremlin for once. That's a good girl right there."

As a yandere, carnage committed in the name of protecting Kaiden was basically dessert to her.

Kaiden rubbed his temples.

Out of context, this scene was insane.

And then…

"Everyone~ Snacks are ready!"

Alexandra burst into the room in her full abyssal maid outfit, sporting frills, black gloves, a choker, stockings, the whole cursed aesthetic she insisted on wearing to fit their new home's theme. What made it even more curious was that she was no official maid one bit; she had no training, and wasn't even hired as a maid… She was just their friend they wanted to help and watch heal.

But as the upstanding woman that she was, Alexandra couldn't stomach being a freeloader. She understood that they were filthy rich and housing her would cost nothing, but it was not just about cost. Her friends risked their lives day in and out, the blonde couldn't accept sitting in their home, sipping tea and watching shows 'to heal,' while they did all that.

Furthermore… Alexandra never admitted it to anyone, nor would she ever, but she'd always wanted to wear maid uniforms ever since she was a little girl. She found them very cute. The frills were very much her style. That's why she ordered them at first. But the more she wore them, the more she liked the actual job. It felt good to be useful, even if in this small, humble manner.

She carried two elegant trays loaded with:

Cookies

Chips

Fancy little sandwiches

And a jug of iced tea as if this were a weekend picnic instead of a death-watch party

She leaned in and placed everything on the coffee table with perfect posture, then poured drinks like a professional. She learned from studying the 'how to be a maid properly for beginners' video series, uploaded to YouTube by a retired maid trainer woman. Alexandra liked her a lot.

"You all seem to be having fun," the blonde said warmly.

"We're cheering Melty's kill streak!" Luna chirped, taking a cookie.

Alexandra blinked. "The lava wyrm?"

"Yup!" Aria beamed.

Alexandra smiled serenely, as if that made perfect sense. "Wonderful! Please enjoy your snacks while watching the… ah… dissolving of your enemies."

Kaiden struggled to hold back a grin from emerging.

His life had become a fever dream.

But gods, it was a fun one.

Nyx then looked at her friend. "Aren't you gonna stay with us, blondie bestie?"

Alexandra froze mid-step.

Her eyes flicked to the screen, where Melty's molten maw was still visible, ripping someone's torso apart, and she winced so hard her whole body shrank a little.

"I-I'm sorry," she said softly, wringing her hands. "I just… I don't really want to watch this right now…"

Nyx blinked.

Then the understanding hit her like a gentle, sad wave.

Of course.

Alexandra had endured more cruelty, degradation, and fear under Maximilian than any of them ever wanted to imagine. For her, violence didn't bring excitement or pride, even if it was done to their enemies… It just brought echoes she was still trying to move on from.

She wasn't built for carnage.

She was built for peace.

That's why being a maid made her glow so brilliantly.

It let her exist in a world without pain.

Nyx's expression softened instantly.

No teasing. No pressure.

"Thanks for the iced tea, Alex," she said warmly, offering her friend a small, sincere smile.

Alexandra beamed, bright and earnest, looking like someone who lived for the chance to make others happy and satisfied. She gave a perfectly formal bow, one hand over her stomach, one behind her back, exactly like the YouTube maid instructor taught her.

"My pleasure."

Nyx stared at her for a second, half fond, half exasperated.

They had been childhood friends, partners in crime, chaos twins at the academy, inseparable.

Seeing Alex act like a trained servant now was…

Weird as hell.

But then again…

Nyx looked around at the room full of girls cheering for lava-murder while Kaiden sat pinned between a tanned feline queen and a hot red demoness like a sexy sandwich.

…weird was the new normal for them.

So she shrugged it off.

"Blondie," Bastet called, lifting her empty glass with imperious feline confidence, "more cold milk, please."

"Right away!" Alexandra chirped, delighted at the opportunity.

She hurried off toward the kitchen, humming a light, airy tune. It was soft, melodic, and beyond beautiful.

A tune with no fear in it.

No shadows.

Just calm.

Kaiden watched her go, unable to hide a quiet, proud smile.

Even in a dungeon full of killers and monsters, Alexandra was healing.

Slowly.

Sweetly.

Like sunlight finding cracks.

And despite the madness of everything happening around them…

It made their chaotic little home feel more whole.
