Demon Slayer: Strength Gained with Every Swing of the Sword

Chapter 36: Chapter 37: A Pillar of Water or a Pillar of Light?

Under the guidance of two hidden members, Feng Yu finally arrived at the legendary headquarters of the Demon Slayer Corps.

As soon as he stepped into the courtyard,

A tranquil atmosphere enveloped him.

It was both quiet and clean.

On both sides of the courtyard were rows of decorative trees, with the ground paved in cement, pebbles, and marble.

"A boy who single-handedly slayed twelve Kizuki, do you want to be my son?"

A thunderous voice suddenly echoed, and Feng Yu looked up.

He saw a man with yellow hair, edged with red, bright eyes full of energy, and thick black eyebrows—his appearance so spirited.

"Flame Pillar? Kyojuro Rengoku?"

At that moment, the Flame Pillar seemed a little more youthful than he had remembered.

However, the figure and tone were unmistakably Rengoku Kyojuro.

"No way!"

Feng Yu thought, We're nearly the same age. I want to be your brother, and you want to be my father? This can't happen.

"Mr. Rengoku, please, don't make things worse."

The voice of Shinobu Kochou interrupted from the side.

"Hahaha, Miss Shinobu, no need to worry!" Rengoku laughed heartily, then turned to Feng Yu, saying, "So you're Feng Yu. Very impressive. I can feel your strength; if you have time, we can spar sometime!"

"Tch, not even flashy..."

Uzui Tengen, the Sound Pillar, sneered.

"So this is Feng Yu... what a cute boy... I wonder if he has a girlfriend..."

Mitsuri Kanroji, the Love Pillar, blushed and said.

The Snake Pillar, Iguro Obanai, however, glared at Feng Yu with gritted teeth, "Hmph!"

Soon, the familiar nine Pillars had gathered.

Giyu Tomioka saw Feng Yu and trembled slightly, then nodded at him without saying anything.

Gyomei Himejima, the Stone Pillar, clasped his hands together, tears streaming down his face.

The Mist Pillar, Muichiro Tokito, muttered to himself, "The weather seems nice today, and that cloud looks like..."

But the one who left the deepest impression on Feng Yu was the Wind Pillar, Sanemi Shinazugawa.

With white hair, three prominent scars on his face, and eyes bloodshot, Sanemi stood there.

"Hey, hey, you're the one who single-handedly slayed the Twelve Kizuki? How did that happen? How could a nameless rookie kill the Twelve Kizuki!"

Sanemi said arrogantly.

"Sanemi... his scars have increased again. So cool!"

Mitsuri's eyes sparkled with hearts as she looked at Sanemi with joy.

The air around seemed to be affected, filled with a sweet scent.

Giyu Tomioka silently watched Sanemi, his thoughts unreadable.

The sound of wooden clogs echoed.

Dressed in a white haori adorned with flame patterns, with a scar on his face and eyes as pale as white ash, Ubuyashiki Kagaya slowly emerged from the darkness.

"Thank you all for coming, my dear children."

Ubuyashiki Kagaya spoke calmly.

He was assisted by his two children as he made his way down the corridor. He raised his head and felt the warmth on his skin, then spoke, "Good morning, everyone. The weather is really nice today, isn't it? Is the sky blue? It's time for the biannual Pillars' meeting again."

"It's still you familiar faces, I'm so glad to see you all."

Shing

The Nine Pillars immediately knelt on one knee, and Kanroji Mitsuri followed suit, kneeling with them as a sign of respect.

"The health of our leader is truly a joy to me. Please, take care of yourself," Shinazugawa Hashibira spoke first.

"Thank you, Shinazugawa," Kagaya replied.

"I wanted to be the first to speak, but it looks like Mr. Shinazugawa beat me to it," Kanroji Mitsuri said, her head bowed slightly.

"Alright, everyone, rise. Let's begin the meeting!" Kagaya announced.

"Excuse me for interrupting, but I think it's inappropriate for Nakagawa Feng Yu to take on the role of Pillar."

Shinazugawa spoke up.

"His strength is not yet sufficient to be one of the Pillars of the Demon Slayer Corps!"

"Besides, the Water Pillar position is already held by Giyū Tomioka, so there's no room for him."

"I see..." Kagaya replied with a hint of meaning in his voice.

"For any member of the Demon Slayer Corps, to become a Pillar, they need to complete one of the following two tasks:

Defeat a member of the Twelve Kizuki. Kill fifty demons."

"Nakagawa Feng Yu has already fulfilled one of these conditions. He single-handedly defeated the Lower Moon Three demon, and although he's been with the Corps for less than a year, this proves his strength!"

"I believe he is capable of becoming a Pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps."

"However, currently all nine Pillar positions are occupied, so we are holding this meeting to discuss it."

"Do you have any thoughts?" Kagaya asked.

"I disagree!" Shinazugawa was the first to object.

Then, both the Stone Pillar and Snake Pillar voiced their objections.

Their unified reasoning was that although Feng Yu had slain a member of the Twelve Kizuki, his contributions were insufficient to earn the title of Pillar.

"I support Feng Yu -kun becoming a Pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps," Shinobu Kocho said.

"I support it too!" Kyojurou Rengoku shouted.

Tomioka Giyū and Kanao Tsuyuri remained completely expressionless, as though they were daydreaming during a school lecture, completely absent from the discussion.

The Love Pillar, Kanroji Mitsuri, however, blushed, lowering her head and appearing conflicted, "What should I do? Mr. Shinazugawa is so handsome... but Feng Yu -kun is so cute... it's really hard to choose..."

As if anticipating such a situation, Kagaya spoke up, "So, what do you think, Nakagawa Feng Yu ?"

"I don't know. I'll go with whatever is decided," Feng Yu replied, not particularly concerned whether or not he became a Pillar. After all, his main goal was to slay demons. Becoming a Pillar would simply mean more respect and authority, but it didn't affect him much.

"I see..." Kagaya said calmly.

Then, an unusual silence filled the room.

"Since the creation of the Demon Slayer Corps, we've been fighting demons. From our humble beginnings to now, with nine Pillars, all of you have proven yourselves to be exceptional. Initially, I thought to have Feng Yu take over the position of Water Pillar. But I've heard that he has created a Breath of Light, so I'm considering adding another Pillar position—the Light Pillar!"

"Feng Yu , what do you think? Should you be the Light Pillar, or the Water Pillar?" Kagaya once again placed the decision in Feng Yu 's hands.

Feng Yu thought to himself, I wonder if I should just say, "What the heck," but whether I become a Pillar or not doesn't matter much to me. Why do they keep asking me...?

Out loud, he said, "Lord Ubuyashiki, at the moment, the Breath of Light is still in its early stages. The title of Light Pillar may not be suitable yet..."

"I see..." Kagaya replied.

"Then, once you've fully developed the Breath of Light, you can take on the position of Light Pillar," Kagaya said with a smile.

"Lord Ubuyashiki!" Shinazugawa shouted sternly.

" Sanemi, Feng Yu can use two breathing techniques simultaneously..."

"I believe he is qualified to become one of our Pillars," Kagaya said.

"Alright, that's decided. Once Feng Yu 's Breath of Light is perfected, he will take the position of Light Pillar. Ahem."

Kagaya coughed suddenly.

"Lord Ubuyashiki!"

"Lord Ubuyashiki!"

...

The Nine Pillars instantly became anxious.

"I'm fine," Kagaya waved his hand dismissively.

He then entered the room, leaving the others kneeling in place.
