Chapter 18. Demon Hunter
I frowned in confusion.
"087? Are you kidding? That's not a name."
"But they call me 087," he insisted.
"They call him by number, is he some kind of experimental object?" I observed him once more. "If it's true, that explains why I can't feel any demonic aura or magic power from him."
"Can you tell me about them?"
"They are all bad people. They locked us and gave us strange food every day. If we didn't finish it they would beat us. Sometimes they give us strange fluids and cut our bodies." he raised his hand and looked at his tentacles that wiggled before him with a sad expression. "Then... Suddenly tentacles grew on our bodies... It hurts... It hurts so much..." he said in a trembling voice.
"They conducted experiments on humans. Is this the work of a mad alchemist?"
"Then? What happened?" I asked again.
He bowed his head sadly.
"They made us fight each other... Until one of us dies." He was silent for a moment before he raised his head and gave me an innocent smile, but even though he smiled his sadness is still clearly visible in his eyes.
"But I always win, they say I'm a successful subject..." a moment later his smile faded and his face turned grim.
"But I don't want to kill my friends anymore... That's why I ran away..."
"Now I understand why he can attack like a trained killer."
He frowned as he thought for a moment then shook his head.
"I don't know. I don't remember anything about them."
"If he doesn't remember anything they might erase his memory or he was raised there since childhood. If this is the work of a mad alchemist, I should see him. Maybe I can use him to build an army."
"Do you remember anything else about them?"
He thought for a moment then he remembered something.
"I remember before I escaped, a handsome man visited us. All of those bad people bow to him."
A slight condescending chuckled came out of my mouth after I heard his words.
"This is the first time I've heard there's a handsome mad alchemist. I thought they were too busy with their research so they all look like crazy people who rarely take a bath."
"What does he look like?"
"His hair is silver-white, his eyes are blue and his body is covered in white light..." he paused for a moment before he continued.
"Oh! He also wears nice white clothes and wears a robe with a black bird symbol."
My eyes widened in surprise at his words as someone's image crossed my head. There's only one person that fits that characteristic and I can't be wrong, because black bird are the Kingdom of Aeros' crest. Only the Royal Family can wear it as a robe.
He looked at me for a few moments.
"Miss, are you alright?" he asked worriedly.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath trying to calm myself. Slowly, my demonic aura disappeared. I turned my gaze to him.
"I'm fine."
He observed my expression for a moment before returning to speak.
"Are you mad at me?" he asked in hesitation.
I smile at him.
"Of course not."
Suddenly a loud noise came from the top of the hole. We both immediately turned our gaze to the origin of the voice. Some people in hunter clothes jumped down from there.
-Crak! -Crak! -Crak!
White chains shot into the cave wall. They hold on to it as the white lights are thrown from their hands. We dodge it in the opposite direction.
The white light landed on the ground and created an explosion of light that blinded our eyes. A moment later, I felt something was pulling and binding me. As soon as the light disappeared, we were already bound with the 'Holy Chain'. He tried to move his tentacles but in vain. His tentacles stiffened, unable to move.
I turned my gaze to the demon hunter group and saw a high mage casting a 'Stun Spell' at the tentacle boy.
"Tsk! No wonder I can't feel their presence."
A high mage can cover up their magic power, making them look like a harmless ordinary person.
One of them approached us and smirked.
"Wow! Wow! Looks like we got a good catch today. It's very rare we can catch a demon and a monster together like this."
