Chapter 17: Chapter 17 - Cadmus Revealed
Project Cadmus. Metropolis.
"We are outside of an unmarked building in Metropolis that is reportedly housing various human experiments and several other illegal and immoral secrets. Just a few moments ago the Justice League along with the police arrived to search the facility-" The reporter was talking in front of a camera.
Superman frowned as he looked at the reporter from inside the facility. "How did they arrive at the same time as us? And how are they so well informed?"
There was a grunt from Batman, "they were probably informed by either of the two troublemakers." At this point it was a moot point getting angry or annoyed with them. They had shown that they were constantly thinking ahead. Mylo is more than likely the mastermind between the two of them. But it was clear that they were both incredibly smart so he could not write off Scarlett, especially not after the stunt she pulled off in Gotham.
The Police Commissioner for Metropolis walked up, "you were right on the money. The amount of illegal crimes these people have committed are in the double digits and rising. We have also connected it with LexCorp as well as a few other groups including the federal government. I have already reached out to my contact at the UN, they have people coming over to help the investigation as well as watch over it so nothing shady goes on."
"Can we get an update as the investigation progresses?" Superman asked.
"No, since this will go international we can't afford any screw ups. We have to do this completely by the books with so many eyes watching over us. In fact I was about to ask you to leave." The commissioner explained then he turned and walked away.
Superman was about to say something when he felt a hand on his shoulder, he looked over and saw Batman with an unbothered expression on his face. "Thank you for your time officer. I wish you the best of luck. Come on, we have something else to do."
He then turned and walked away. After a moment Superman followed after him, "what did you find?"
"They, along with Waller, pulled up all their roots and records. There are no records of them, I believe they used Cadmus as a shell and have just evolved to something different." Batman explained.
"Meaning?" Superman asked as he frowned in annoyance.
Batman glanced over at him, "meaning we are back to tracking them through their history. Let Question and I handle the investigation. The rest of the Justice League should focus on the Blackgate Breakout. Those prisoners that escaped included previous members of Task Force X. Not to mention that it was the biggest prison for supervillains on the planet."
Superman sighed before he slowly floated up and flew away while Batman quickly disappeared into the shadows.
—-------------------------
"Wow!" Elenor exclaimed as she watched with stars in her eyes as the device they worked on began starting up. "Dad, it is working!"
The device was shaped like a box with a sphere in the center of it. As it began to start up the box opened up revealing a keyboard. While the sphere, which was the crystal ball he stole from the vault under Big Ben, began glowing and a moment later a holographic projection of Earth appeared.
"So what is it?" Blake asked as she stood at the doorway to the lab. Elenor and Mylo had spent the last day locked up in the lab working on two things. A biomechanical body, that was only half-way done and this device that Mylo had been specifically interested in was prioritized. Not that Blake had ever seen anything like that before on any of the worlds she has been on.
"It is a Techno-Magical Artifact." Mylo began typing on the keyboard quickly. "It basically allows me to search for any magical item on the planet without the need for an annoying ritual. It also bypasses magical blocking by giving the last known location of a magical item."
"So it is what? A magical GPS used exclusively for magical items? Does not seem that useful." Blake complained while Elenor giggled.
"Not just items! The hardest part was being able to track anything with a magical signature!" Elenor declared as she seemed to be almost vibrating in her shoes. "It can't trace magical areas like the place we live in but it can show the entrance point. Dad, show her an example!"
Mylo chuckled as he typed, 'Artemis' into the keyboard. A moment later the globe spun until a mountainside in North America was presented in front of Mylo. "It appears Artemis is inside this magical area, if I recall it is an exclusive area bound by gods magic to only let in women- huh?"
"What's wrong Dad?" Elenor peeked over at what he was looking at.
"It appears there are men inside the area which shouldn't be possible. It is possible that a magical event has reverberated and caused many things to change. So more than likely something went wrong with the portal." Mylo pulled out his phone and started dialing a number.
Blake sighed as she watched him slide seamlessly into work mode. "I suppose this means you will be going out for a bit."
"Hmm… I would say yes. Worshipers of Trigon and a clan of werewolves." Mylo answered as he patted his daughter's head who became still as she realized her father was leaving again. "But it should only take a day or two."
"Then?"
Mylo smiled as his phone began ringing, "then we can do what you want for a while." He brought his phone up to his ear. "Scarlett, I hope you aren't too busy. I need you and a transport craft for a mission."
"ARGUS or-"
"Other. I want to repay a debt. No need to bring in anyone else." Mylo explained as he walked towards the garage. "We will be picking up some people so make sure the transport is empty. I will text you the location."
"Why not just bring some backup to meet at the site?"
"It is in a Magical Concealed Zone. Similar to Themyscira but it has or rather had rules." Mylo explained briefly.
