Chapter 180: C158(2)
Anton paid no attention to the battle raging behind him.
Even with Megatron now awake from his deep sleep, Anton remained unfazed. He had anticipated such a turn of events and had no reason to panic.
Fish in troubled waters.
The more chaotic the situation, the better.
Megatron's awakening had thrown everything into disarray, creating the perfect opportunity for Anton to slip unnoticed to the back of the internal base in Sector 7. His target: the Transformer relic under heavy guard.
The AllSpark.
Optimus Prime had explained earlier that only the hearts of the leaders from the two factions—Autobots and Decepticons—could destroy the AllSpark, and that doing so would cost them their lives.
"It's just up ahead," Lennox said as he led the group forward.
They quickly reached the location of the AllSpark. During the journey, Lennox had pressed Batman for information and now had a clear understanding of the enemy they faced.
The sentient machines were called Decepticons, mechanical beings from the planet Cybertron. Their counterparts, the Autobots, also hailed from Cybertron and were humanity's allies in this battle.
The conflict was straightforward:
The Decepticons sought to use the AllSpark to transform Earth and dominate the universe. The Autobots aimed to stop them and protect humanity.
Additionally, Batman had revealed an astounding fact: there was a direct way to end this war.
Not only could the Decepticons' conspiracy be thwarted, but Megatron himself could be destroyed.
The method? Force the AllSpark into Megatron's chest.
"How do you shove something that big into Megatron's chest?" Epps asked, staring at the massive cube in front of them.
The AllSpark towered over them, at least three stories tall, covered in intricate, alien hieroglyphs. Epps couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"You want us to put this thing into Megatron's chest? It's big enough to swallow Megatron whole!"
"What you're seeing is just the outer form," Batman replied calmly. "In reality, the AllSpark is much smaller—about the size of a basketball."
"A basketball?" Epps looked skeptical. "If this thing is really that small, I'll eat it right here."
"Then prepare for a lifetime of indigestion," Cyborg quipped, stepping forward.
Hovering over the AllSpark, Cyborg reached out and placed his hands on its surface.
Click!
Suddenly, a wave of blue, translucent energy rippled through the underground space, lighting up the alien hieroglyphs on the AllSpark.
Moments later, the massive cube began to shift. It fragmented into countless smaller blocks, which reassembled and condensed into a single form—a glowing, basketball-sized cube.
"Just as I said," Cyborg noted with satisfaction.
Lennox and the others stood dumbfounded. Epps, in particular, was speechless, his jaw practically on the floor.
"Alright, now's not the time for jokes," Anton interrupted, turning to the soldiers. "We're heading back to help the Autobots defeat the Decepticons. You need to evacuate immediately."
"No."
Lennox's firm response caught everyone off guard.
"I'm going with you," he declared.
"Lanny!"
"Captain!"
Epps and the others were visibly shaken. None of them had expected Lennox to say such a thing.
"There's nothing more to discuss," Lennox continued. "This is my decision. You don't have to join me, but I've made up my mind. I need to see those aliens pay for what they've done—with my own eyes."
"Lanny!"
"Don't forget, Feige is still waiting for us to return!"
Epps didn't try to stop him and instead embraced Lennox tightly.
Feige was one of their teammates, injured during their escape to a desert town after being attacked at a military base in Qatar. A giant scorpion had ambushed them, leaving Feige seriously wounded.
Though he was now stable and conscious, his condition was still a matter of concern. The team regularly checked in with him.
"If you want to see the Decepticons pay the price, then move faster—lest you arrive too late and only find their corpses."
With that, Anton turned and began heading back the way they had come.
"Coming!" Lennox replied, his eyes resolute. He glanced at the retreating figures of Batman and Cyborg before quickly following.
Inside the Base
The battle was raging in full force, chaotic and relentless.
Broadly speaking, the conflict was split into two fronts:
Optimus Prime and Megatron, locked in a one-on-one clash so intense that no one dared intervene. The other Transformers, Autobots and Decepticons alike, switching opponents and trading blows. Sparks flew everywhere as brutal skirmishes erupted across the base.
The most pitiful combatants were undoubtedly the giant scorpion monster and the Autobot medic, Ratchet. Neither excelled at combat, leaving them awkwardly pecking at each other.
Both suffered significant damage from stray attacks before realizing their opponents had been replaced by others mid-fight, leaving them confused and battered.
It wasn't until Anton, Cyborg, and Lennox returned to the clearing that the chaotic battlefield momentarily calmed.
All eyes—Autobots and Decepticons alike—turned toward Anton.
"The AllSpark!"
Megatron's piercing red eyes locked onto the basketball-sized cube in Anton's hands.
"Hand it over, human," Megatron commanded in a booming, menacing voice.
"You seem to misunderstand the situation," Anton replied coolly, his expression unreadable.
Turning to Optimus Prime, Anton added, "Kill him. Cyborg will assist you."
Optimus Prime gave a curt nod, showing no hesitation.
Cyborg stepped forward and took the AllSpark from Anton before rising into the air to stand shoulder to shoulder with Optimus Prime.
"You... you're planning to destroy the AllSpark?" Megatron's tone shifted to one of disbelief, his metallic features twisting into rage. "Optimus Prime, do you even know what you're doing?"
His voice rose, dripping with fury. "You would destroy the relics of our race? The very fire of hope that could rebuild Cybertron?"
Megatron was livid. If mechanical beings could spit, Optimus Prime would likely be swimming in a pool of it by now.
To Megatron, Optimus Prime's decision was an unthinkable betrayal—a rejection of Cybertron's legacy, a refusal of the future their people deserved.
But for Optimus Prime, justice outweighed any hollow victory. To him, a Cybertron rebuilt through oppression and destruction was no victory at all.
This fundamental, irreconcilable difference was the heart of their conflict.
"What do we do now?" Lennox whispered to Batman, eyeing the tense standoff between the two leaders of the alien factions.
"You?" Anton replied with a shrug. "Just stand by and watch the show."
"And you?" Lennox asked, his curiosity piqued.
"Me?" Anton's gaze drifted over the Transformers. His eyes lingered on Megatron before shifting to Starscream, Brawl, and Blackout.
After a moment's pause, he smirked. "I'll be taking the fight to them."
As the words left his mouth, Anton snapped his fingers.
Bang!
Out of the darkness, the unmistakable growl of an engine echoed through the battlefield. A sleek black car emerged, its low body, wide tires, and heavily armored frame cutting an imposing figure.
It was the Batmobile.
Lennox stared in awe, recognizing the vehicle from countless news reports, where Batman had used it to dominate both land and sky.
"Stay back, Lennox ," Anton advised as the cockpit opened and he climbed inside.
As the hatch sealed shut, Anton's voice came through once more:
"After all, the real fight... is just beginning."
