Chapter 152: C136(1)
"Nick, you won't make me embarrassed, will you?"
Green Arrow's tone was low as he stood beside the teleportation device. His gaze turned into a sharp arrow, constantly sweeping across the faces of everyone in SHIELD.
The faces of SHIELD members changed slightly. Even Spider-Man, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and even Daredevil could instantly feel the secret tension between Batman and SHIELD.
Having already solved the foot clan, the atmosphere in the building had become much more relaxed. However, when Green Arrow spoke these words, the air immediately grew heavy, and the tension returned, not unlike the atmosphere during the previous battle.
Some people even found themselves short of breath.
Thinking of the opposing side— the Justice League led by Batman—many felt intimidated and couldn't calm down for a long while.
Nick Fury remained very calm. He stared at Green Arrow and slowly said, "The teleportation device cannot be handed over to you, Arrow. You know what I'm going to say."
Green Arrow sneered, "You want to say that SHIELD is safer than the Justice League?"
Nick Fury's expression darkened. "Even so, you cannot leave the teleportation device under your control," he stated. "This thing is dangerous. I can't trust you."
"Believe it or not, it's not up to you," Green Arrow retorted with a sneer. "After this battle, there are not many people left in New York, or even in the entire world, who don't trust Batman. Can you deny?"
"Me?" Fury thought to himself.
"When I saved the world, you were still playing in the mud in open-crotch pants!"
Hearing this, Nick Fury was furious. But just as he was about to explode, he suppressed his anger and remained composed. The verbal sparring between the two made the internal atmosphere of the entire building even more tense.
Sparks seemed to fly with every word they exchanged. The situation was on the brink of battle.
"Director!"
The situation reached a stalemate, and Hawkeye couldn't help standing up and looking at Nick Fury beside him. The meaning was clear: even if they didn't take the teleportation device with them today, they couldn't just admit defeat.
"Want to fight?"
Anton's Green Arrow clone, seeing the defeated Hawkeye, instantly understood the other party's thoughts. He smiled, but it wasn't a friendly smile. The Arrow clone was not on good terms with SHIELD.
This was something Anton had deliberately designed to emphasize the differences between Batman, Cyborg, and Arrow and their views on SHIELD.
Though Batman was the leader of the Justice League, it was impossible for there to be no internal differences. Some minor distinctions were necessary within the group.
Among them, the three most mysterious figures—Batman, Cyborg, and Arrow—had become subjects that SHIELD could not fully understand.
In addition, the Green Arrow clone deliberately displayed an unfriendly attitude towards S.H.I.E.L.D., which also served as a warning from the Justice League to S.H.I.E.L.D.
This was to ensure that Nick Fury didn't view the Justice League as an imaginary enemy every day. It was important for Nick Fury to understand that, even if S.H.I.E.L.D. had formed the Avengers, they couldn't stand on the same starting line as the Justice League, let alone finish on the same level.
The Justice League was simply a far more powerful competitor.
Imaginary enemy?
That was just wishful thinking on Nick Fury's part.
S.H.I.E.L.D., or the current Avengers—except for Tony Stark, who is Iron Man, and who can provide some strength—were nothing more than "newborns," not worth mentioning.
"Humph!"
After Hawkeye stood up, he received Nick Fury's tacit approval. Reaching for the bow and arrow behind him, he aimed directly at Arrow.
Whoosh!
The arrow flew, colliding with the one shot by Green Arrow.
The two faced each other!
Duh! Duh!
The arrows deflected and lodged into the walls on either side. Neither of them used special arrows, opting for ordinary ones instead.
This felt more like a contest than a life-and-death battle.
After all, the current relationship between the Justice League and S.H.I.E.L.D. was delicate. Even if they couldn't be friends, they tried not to be enemies.
This was the unspoken consensus between Batman and Nick Fury, reached without communication.
Whoosh, whoosh!
More arrows flew.
The onlookers, tacitly stepping aside, became passive observers. They did not rush to intervene.
The battle between Arrow and Hawkeye, to some extent, represented the strength of their respective sides.
Whoever won would earn the right to speak and claim the teleportation device.
Whoosh, whoosh!
A cold sweat broke out down Hawkeye's back.
The arrows shot by Green Arrow continued to rain down on him.
Arrow's offensive was relentless, surging like the tide—waves crashing higher and higher, creating immense pressure.
It felt like that night when he first faced Arrow and lost.
The defeated man!
The thought kept swirling in Hawkeye's mind.
"Damn it!"
Hawkeye gritted his teeth. He knew that if this continued, he'd likely repeat the failure of that night. He decided to go all-in and fight hard.
So, he rushed at Arrow.
The arrows shot by Green Arrow cut through the air.
Hawkeye didn't evade.
In a flash of sparks and fire, Hawkeye twisted his waist, dodging the arrow with a dangerously bizarre angle and a burst of skill.
"Barton!"
Seeing this, everyone from S.H.I.E.L.D. gasped in shock.
They hadn't expected Hawkeye to treat this exchange as a life-and-death battle.
The confrontation between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Justice League was fully showcased in this clash between the two.
Even Spider-Man and the others couldn't help but cheer for Hawkeye's skill.
The Turtles, with their thick skin and shells, would have had no problem with the arrows. But they knew that Hawkeye's skills were by no means weaker than theirs.
And the spidey's eyes were wide with amazement.
His own abilities were many times stronger than Hawkeye's.
However, Hawkeye's combat skills and experience had far surpassed his.
With such terrifying abilities coming from an ordinary body, the man in front of him had surpassed 99% of the humans in the world and become one of the very few.
Of course, the same was true for Arrow.
Although Spider-Man hadn't interacted much with Arrow and didn't know the specifics of his abilities, seeing Hawkeye and Arrow face off—and the former giving so much attention to the latter—he could tell that Arrow was also a powerful warrior and archer, standing at the peak of humanity.
As a member of the Justice League, Spider-Man didn't think Arrow would lose to Hawkeye.
