Chapter 4: THE ACADEMY
"But that is suppose impossible!"
"Well, it has already been done, and they are trying to do it again." Miss Tokoyami stood up. "Oh, I almost forgot. What's your name?"
"I'm Kakashi... Yami." Kakashi answered like he wasn't even sure if that was his name. "The girl's Megumin."
"I'm Natski Tokoyami, but you can just call me Natski." She introduced herself with a friendly smile.
"You say she needs revitalization?" Kakashi reminded her.
"Yes, but the other girl needs it too. The parents are rich, and I think they are going to buy their way out of this one."
"Isn't there another way?"
"If someone of the same karma type transfers to her, maybe she'll be fine, but your friend will need the revitalization machine."
"What type of karma does she have?"
"She has a lightning-type karma, and as far as we know, there are no longer any lightning-type supernaturals."
"I'll do it!"
"What?????" Miss Tokoyami yelled, visibly surprised. "You have to be the same karma type as her to do a restoration transfer."
"Yes, I am a lightning type," Kakashi informed. "I can do a transfer while you use the revitalization machine on Megumin."
"What about your health?"
"Don't worry about me. I can do it." Kakashi assured. "But how do we transfer karma?"
Miss Tokoyami showed Kakashi how to transfer karma. It was easier than he'd thought; it was all about slowly channeling karma into his hand and gradually releasing it into the target. It was almost exactly how the technique worked except it required more concentration.
The little girl's parents were happy, they thanked Kakashi and invited him over, even though he humbly declined, they still insisted that he should come when he had the chance.
Kakashi stood by the window and watched the nurses preparing to transfer the girl to the patient ward, he wondered how a little girl like her would use her karma without replenishing it. According to her parents, she was the only one in the family who could control karma, so she made it her responsibility to achieve her sister's dream by because a student at the ASE. And to achieve that, she needed to be strong.
Kakashi knew that feeling, the feeling of being responsible because you feel like you're the only one who could do it. He decided to give the girl a little piece of advice.
"What's your name?" Kakashi asked the little girl as the nurse stopped and turned the wheelchair in which she was seated, to face him.
"Are you the mister that saved me?"
"I won't say saved, but..."
"Thank you, mister." the girl smiled. "I'm Hinata, nice to meet you."
[She is so polite.]
"You know, you don't have to work hard to prove anything to anyone; as long as you are satisfied with what you have done, it's alright."
She smiled in admiration and asked for his name. "Please, mister, what is your name?"
"My name? Why do you ask?"
"Because when I get admission into the academy, I'd like you to be my Sensei."
"If you say so," Kakashi said, trying to stay cool, but inside, he felt like he was about to explode out of joy. "I'm Kakashi Yami. Just try your best to grow up big and strong, okay?"
"Yes!!" Hinata yelled, energized. "Thanks again, and bye, mister!"
Hinata waved at me before the nurse pushed her away. The revitalization machine was used on Megumin instead.
"How long is she going to stay like that?" Kakashi turned to Miss Tokoyami as soon as Hinata was out of sight.
"Two years or more. I'm not sure, but I know she's going to wake up one day." Miss Tokoyami said, trying to ease his mind. "Till then, why not stay at the academy? I'm sure we can help each other."
"Is that my way of paying back?"
"Just take it as friend aid."
"Okay, as long as it's for Megumin, I'll do anything," I said with confidence. Besides, he had no other place to stay.
---
Kakashi walked hand in hand with Mira as they both followed Miss Tokoyami outside the hospital.
"Are you ready?" Miss Tokoyami asked.
"Re... Ready for what."
"Just stay close to me then," Mira said and pulled Kakashi closer.
Miss Tokoyami snapped her fingers and for a moment, Kakashi's viewing and hearing became distorted, everything he could see was bending and changing shape and before he realized it, he was standing in front of a high school.
The high school was divided into six different buildings, each connected to the other by a pathway. There were three stories building which was exquisitely designed with white and brown paint.
They walked in and made their way to the principal's office, which turned out to be Miss Tokoyami. She sat down in her chair behind her desk while Kakashi sat opposite her. Mira stood beside Miss Tokoyami.
"This school was created after the alliance for supernaturals and experimentals."
"Miss Tokoyami, you mentioned something about creating a human who doesn't need Karma to use techniques. I still don't understand why someone would try to do something like that." Kakashi said.
"Well, it all started at the beginning. After the creation of the world, most of the gods decided to live as humans in their creation. Although they were humans, they still possessed godlike powers. Some of the gods lived a normal life, got married, and produced offspring. These children are called SUPERNATURALS.
Modern civilization sees them as weapons, but after continuous refusal of the plan, it started a war between humans and the supernatural. This forced humans to use other human beings for experiments to produce god-like beings powerful enough to potentially kill a god. The results of such inhumane acts are called experimental." Miss Tokoyami explained. "It was later made illegal, but it seems some people are still working on the project. Besides that, some supernaturals possess karma but can't use techniques, and supernaturals whose techniques are not among the main elements."
"There are more types of people than I thought," Kakashi commented.
"We'll, since you'll be working with us, you are sure to see more types of people." Miss Tokoyami opened her drawer, brought out a piece of paper and gave it to him. "I want you to fill out this form and bring it to me tomorrow. Mira will lead you to your room; we'll meet tomorrow."
"Okay, thank you so much for everything," Kakashi said gratefully.
"It's nothing," she assured him.
I followed Mira as she took me to the dorms and showed me my new room.
Mira unlocked the room and turned on the light. It was a bit messy than what Kakashi had expected, but it was still better than the lab.
The room was small but enough to fit two beds, the closet was fixed to the wall with the kitchen at the corner and a door that led to the bathroom.
There were clothes on the beds, books on the table, and even a half-eaten sandwich was there.
"It's already late; why don't you clear up that bed and sleep for the night? I'll come back tomorrow to help you clean up," Mira advised.
"Who was staying here?" Kakashi asked, seemingly disturbed by the untidiness of the room.
"Someone, it is not important. The person left," Mira replied. "Just manage it; I'll come by tomorrow so we can both clean up. I'll buy some clothes tomorrow since you only have that one."
With that, she left.
Kakashi walked into the room, using his eyes to inspect the room.
There was a wall clock hanging up, just beside the kitchen, which was behind the door. As he walked further into the room, he saw the kitchen in the corner and the bathroom at the other end. There was some shampoo and stuff, girls' clothes were hanging everywhere, and there was food in the kitchen. Still, he didn't mind, besides the girl could have left it behind when she left.
Mira did say she left the school.
