Chapter 192: Greed's Secret (1)
"What's that outfit?"
Lila raised a brow at the dorm room's door as she scanned Mel, now dressed in a black nun uniform, her messy hair draped over by a cowl with a white-inside.
It's only one morning, and just as the Witch of Envy wondered if Maria finally snapped and kidnapped Mel away, somehow she played a normal dress-up instead.
"I've just been to the church!"
Mel slid her thighs together, a faint blush crossing as red as the bite marks hidden beneath the long, black skirt.
"...you two... did you tear the school uniform?"
Lila, as usual, pouted with tired eyes; her expression was crestfallen with a headache marring her rationality.
"After I painstakingly carried it for fixing... you..."
[ Lila recalled the first time you two bathed together! Jealous that you didn't seek her for comfort instead. ]
[ Lila favourability: 57% -> 43% ]
Mel's lips curled further up before giving Lila a slight hug.
"Miss me much?"
"Of course..." Lila grumbled as the end of her foot tapped at the floor, as if it were Mel's foot that dared to step back in after her night out.
"Hmph!" Lila pulled back with a softened gaze.
Mel blinked; Lila's lips quivered with the unease and insecurity of being left alone all night.
She then realised: This night was the first time she had slept with someone other than Lila, leaving her dear childhood friend alone.
"Sorry, Lila..." Mel patted Lila's hair with a regretful smile.
Though that smile widened upon Lila's shuddering, chance!
"So next time, let's sleep together with Maria, you and me both!"
"Ha?! No way!"
Those emerald eyes completely darkened, as raging frosts crept up at their room's doorframe.
[ Lila: You can't be joking! I can't sleep with that evil, possessive woman! Aw... I'm hurt~ ]
[ Lila favourability: 43% -> 35% ]
As Lila's cheeks bloated, frosty breeze puffed out from her reddened cheeks; sheer cold bumping against immense rage.
Mel's eyes curved, her palms rubbing against Lila's face. Ten out of ten! This contact felt too nice!
"Did you perhaps think you're sharing a bed with Maria? Don't think of it that way!"
Mel slid her forehead against Lila's with a childish grin blooming at her lips.
"But-" Lila bit her lips before groaning. "I-I get it... I just didn't like it. Not one bit."
"That you no longer can sleep alone with me? But that'll happen sooner or later!"
"You! Mel!" Lila inched closer with bated breath. "Bad woman! What did that shady Saintess teach you?! You mustn't- ah-"
A muffled cry as Mel lifted Lila into the room; the light-blue hair fluttering down to caress Mel's shoulder.
"Alright alright." Mel carried Lila back in, steps light and careful to steady her cutest wife, now lightly punching her back.
Soon, she plopped onto the bed, hovering with a confident smirk as Lila dodged her gaze and flushed.
Mel licked her lips, wondering if her bite could ooze sweet juice from Lila's reddened cheeks.
"I love you, Lila."
"..."
Lila merely hunched, though stubbornness still hid beneath her tone. "I don't trust you."
"You don't have to." Mel cupped her cheek before frowning.
Mel's thumb, then, brushed against the faint black circles underneath the emerald eyes, as a sorrow smothered her heartbeat.
"But I won't allow you to hurt because of me."
Mel continued. "Because you belong to me. Just as I belong to you, so hurting yourself would, in turn, hurt me as well."
The chain of words slipped out from Mel, her knee twirling teasing circles on Lila's thigh to mark the area as hers.
"Mel..." Lila breathed out, her hands folding inward to cover her quivering smile.
"This is a unique connection between us." Mel sat up, pulling Lila firmly along with her.
"Maria and the others may try, but no one could mimic how much we desperately wished to possess each other, Lila."
Lila could only freeze, then hung her head.
Her bum shifted against the soft mattress, then stared back at Mel with her shoulders hunched awkwardly.
"I... I felt alone." She curled up and hugged her knees.
"It's usually either my sis or you who accompany my sleep, but... before I knew, thoughts piled up when I finally slept alone for the first time in a while."
Mel nodded heavily, her hand reassuringly smoothing over Lila's.
Lila continued as she grabbed Mel's wrist.
"I won't stop being jealous. Won't stop to compete."
With furrowing brows, she stepped out of the bed with a loud, telling creak on the floor.
"In the meantime, I would make sure you know how irreplaceable I am to your goal of a harem."
This time, Lila led ahead towards the open Kitchen.
"You..."
Mel's steps stopped just as Lila's, hesitation burrowing into the silence.
And with a chuckle, Mel then remained patiently silent.
"You.... I mean." Lila glanced over her shoulder. "Don't forget you need to learn cooking from me. For-for that Rosana."
[ A new flame of resolution was lit within Lila's chest. She wouldn't allow you to leave her alone again so easily! ]
[ Lila favourability: 43% -> 76% ]
Mel reciprocated with a binding, strong hug; her Lila. Now so strong and confident.
Just a push, and she was reminded to pick herself back up. Still a few more steps, but she only had full trust in Lila!
"Okay. My first wife~"
"Swe-sweet words won't get you anywhere..."
Lila fidgeted as she twirled her hair to hide her cheeks again. She wasn't about to embarrass herself the second time!
[ Lila favourability: 76% -> 81% ]
Easy Lila. But that only made you cuter.
Mel clutched her nun uniform; the temptation to 'dote on' Lila was now too arousing, but she would leave it for later.
Rosana's father, for now, shall come first.
--------------------
Later, Mel would be scolded by Lila as she continued working on a simple scrambled egg.
The instructions from Lila were so difficult that Mel's trembling hands dropped the whole eggshell into the pan.
A small incident. But Mel would not falter! She shall have Rosana taste her meal every day with joy!
"Mm..."
And when she alone arrived at the silent training hall, with Rosana alone occupying it as usual, the Heiress could only raise her brows, more intrigued and joyed.
The crunching sound beneath her teeth, however? Unmistakable. From Mel's exclusive, 'shelled' egg.
"It's editable now," Rosana smirked, her thumb brushing away the white crust of eggshell at her red lips.
"If you consider giving a feast to the famed Drake-hunters, professional slayers who fed on the driest rations, be my guest."
"Ah-"
Mel's lips parted with a deep sigh, the fabric of her drape almost falling along with her mood.
Though, as Rosana, sitting beside her, sneakily finished the rest of the eggs, Mel could only release a defeated smile.
"At least you now say it's editable," Mel observed as no hint of mockery flashed through Rosana's eased look.
"That's partly true." The Duchess teased. "Or perhaps it's because of your tasty nun uniform. Did you have fun last night?"
"Yes, I do! Thanks, Rosana!"
Mel shook her head. "But I won't neglect my morning cook practice. I promise I'll manage."
"For your visit," Rosana tilted her head, gently settling the emptied bento box.
"I sincerely wish you succeed. Or fail. Either would suit me. And I would appreciate your efforts regardless."
Effort. That principle that defined Rosana ended at the tip of Mel's tongue, as she edged her body closer to Rosana.
Folding her legs, she sent a sharp, playful stare. "Did someone appreciate your efforts then? Back when you tried to learn creation magic."
Rosana frowned as she held her chin; Mel's question was sudden, probing, and daring.
Though the Heiress simply chortled. "I hate to repeat myself. But yes, I took great pride in learning something my talent wouldn't otherwise allow."
"And?" Mel chased the topic.
"And...?" Rosana's voice lingered. "What did you expect me to answer?"
"Come on. Catch a hint." Mel pouted. "You did borrow the family's library for learning, right?"
"Hm... I did."
"Then." Mel's smirk widened as she briefly glanced over to a panel.
[ Rizzler's Distance to You: 20m ]
"I assume your Parents must have doted on you for it?"
As Mel covered her lips, Rosana paused awkwardly with an unspoken ire.
[ Rizzler's Distance to You: 25m ]
And the Father's distancing from her daughter? It didn't immensely help.
"The Duke..." Rosana sighed. "You could say I'm close to my Mother. But while she supported it..."
The Heiress gritted her teeth, humiliation set afloat from the bottomless sea of her memories.
"My Father, however, suggested otherwise for a... naive, personal reason."
"Hm?"
Despite knowing the 'personal reason', Mel probed further. "Do pray tell. Provided if you're comfy."
Mel, at this time, was fully planning to have Rosana fess up.
After discussing with Maria more today, she decided to build a strong bond with Rosana's father first.
And Rosana's honesty here? It held a strong 'impression' when the Father could spot a rare face from his own daughter.
Though even Mel blinked in surprise as Rosana shot up from the floor, her ruby eyes curving with a slight delight. More excited than usual.
She offered a hand, as her fingers danced with themselves for a warm-up.
"Shall I demonstrate?" Rosana smirked. "That personal reason. And why was <Creation Magic> not considered a talent for me, the grand Heiress?"
A spar. Then.
Even when unspoken, Mel took the hand before springing her knees up.
"Of course!" Standing almost eye-to-eye, Mel smirked. "Please take care of me!"
At a corner, she felt a certain duke shuddering with fear and worry; the only audience to the unexpected duel.
