Chapter 1668: Play Defensive (Part 1)
In the final moments before the timer reached its end, there was a sudden shift among those who had been hesitating. Many of the individuals who had been sitting on the fence, uncertain whether to pledge themselves to the Noble Guild or remain unaffiliated, suddenly stood from their seats. Panic and urgency drove them, fear outweighing caution as they attempted to move toward the representatives of the Noble Guild, desperate to secure safety before it was too late.
However, the moment they rose, a powerful wind current slammed into them. The force was overwhelming, pressing them back into their seats as if an invisible hand had struck them down. At the same time, earth magic surged beneath them, thick stone restraints rising from the ground and locking their bodies firmly in place.
"Stay down," Trubin said, his voice low and gravelly as it echoed across the stadium. It was the first time he had spoken during the entire event, and the weight behind his words was unmistakable. "The time is up."
A heavy silence followed, broken only when Idore spoke once more.
"The new order has started," Idore said calmly. "Which means a new land must be created."
The entire stadium began to vibrate violently. At first, many believed it was simply residual mana or aftershocks from a spell, but the shaking intensified rapidly. Seats rattled, the ground groaned, and fear spread as people struggled to understand what was happening.
Then, without warning, the stadium began to rise.
The structure tore itself free from the ground beneath it, massive chunks of earth breaking apart as the entire stadium was lifted high into the air. Screams erupted as people realized they were no longer standing on solid ground. At the same time, the outer shell of the stadium, the walls and coverings that enclosed it, started to disintegrate. Stone, metal, and enchanted materials crumbled away, dissolving into particles of mana and dust.
The destruction revealed the open sky.
Now exposed, the guests could see the city below as if they were standing atop a towering high-rise. There was no glass, no barrier to protect them. Wind rushed past their bodies, and the height alone made many feel dizzy. Some clutched their seats, others froze in fear, unable to move as they stared down at Alterian beneath them.
Yet even after the stadium stopped rising, the rumbling did not end.
"What's going on?" someone shouted.
The recording device broadcasting the event shifted its focus, turning away from the stadium and toward the city itself. What it revealed caused shock to ripple through everyone watching.
Floating throughout the air were hundreds of mages.
They were spread evenly across the southern side of the river, hovering at different heights, positioned with clear intent. Every one of them wore clothing marked with a large golden letter I, unmistakably identifying them as members of the Noble Guild.
"It's time to build a new territory!" one of the voices declared.
Immediately, the mages began casting spells.
Massive fireballs erupted from the air, slamming into the ground and detonating on impact. Entire streets were obliterated in seconds, the earth itself torn apart by the sheer force of the explosions. In other areas, enormous waves of water were conjured, crashing through buildings like a tsunami, sweeping structures away as if they were made of paper.
Groups of earth mages worked together, reshaping the land through brute force. The ground rose and shifted violently, massive slabs of stone tearing free and smashing into anything in their path. Walls formed only to collapse moments later, crushing everything beneath them.
Those watching, government officials, high-ranking mages, and representatives from guilds around the world, could not believe what they were seeing.
The Noble Guild was destroying everything on the south side of the river.
They spared nothing.
Corporate towers, residential buildings, guild headquarters, even structures belonging to guilds that had already pledged cooperation with the Noble Guild were wiped out without hesitation. Alliances meant nothing. Promises meant nothing. Everything was reduced to rubble in moments.
"You're crazy! You've gone mad!" one mage shouted.
Breaking free from the earth restraints, the man began casting a spell in desperation. His mana surged, but before the spell could be completed, Trubin appeared beside him. There was no warning, no visible attack. One moment the mage was standing, the next blood poured from his neck as his body collapsed lifelessly to the ground.
No one had seen how Trubin moved.
As the destruction continued, the horror became even clearer. Blood stained the streets below. This was not just the destruction of buildings, it was the annihilation of life. Anyone still within the structures, anyone trapped in the Noble land, was being killed without mercy.
It was impossible for there to be zero casualties after something like this.
Some viewers, having seen the countdown earlier, had fled the area before the timer ended. A small number had trusted their instincts and escaped. But they were the minority.
"This Idore… he's mad!" Londo shouted as he watched the screen. "He's even crazier than Harvey!"
Idore turned toward one of the floating recording devices broadcasting the event worldwide.
"Is this what you wanted, Dark Magus?" Idore asked. "Because of what you have done, I have been forced to take extreme measures. The blood of all those people is on your hands."
"Don't listen to that maniac, Raze!" Liam said immediately. "He ordered his entire guild to kill people and now claims it's your fault. What everyone is seeing right now is his true nature."
At last, the rumbling began to fade. Not because mercy had been shown, but because there was nothing left to destroy. The southern side of the river had been completely flattened.
But this was only the beginning.
"Everything had to be destroyed," Idore said, his tone unwavering. "So we can rebuild something stronger. Something greater."
Almost immediately, the Noble Guild began reconstruction.
Earth mages and enchanted artifacts worked together, raising massive structures from the ruins. A colossal wall stretched across the entire river, dividing the land completely. Enormous buildings rose behind it, along with a massive central structure that dominated the territory.
Several towering spires were constructed, reaching heights comparable to skyscrapers, though none appeared to be living quarters. Instead, all residential structures were built low to the ground, reinforcing the image of a fortified stronghold rather than a city.
"He's building a fortress," Raze said quietly. "Filled with the strongest mages in his guild."
Raze's gaze hardened as he continued watching.
"He's decided to play defensive."
