Chapter 31: 30. Help 2
After dinner with Nora, Tom helped her into the car. He wanted to take her home and then find out what happened to her family. As Nora got into the car, Tom turned on the heater.
Nora was shivering from the cold after being outside for so long in her light clothes. As they drove, Nora looked out the window, only able to see the trees because of her small stature. When they got home, Tom got out of the car and opened Nora's door.
The little girl wondered where she was. At first she had been afraid to ask Tom for help. But when he had helped her, she had thought that Tom was a good person. If Tom had been someone with bad intentions, he could have deceived her. Tom felt he had to teach this girl a few things.
When Nora got out of the car, she looked at the yard; she liked the house. Tom saw her admiring the house and garden with awe.
"Come on, it's cold now, let's go inside," Tom said to Nora with a smile.
Nora followed Tom in small steps. Tom unlocked the door and held it open for Nora, gesturing with his hand. Nora went inside. After taking off their shoes, they both walked into the living room. Tom looked at the little girl who was trying to sit on the couch.
Tom went outside to get some firewood for a while. So much had happened in the last few days. After cutting some firewood with magic, Tom went back inside. He put the firewood in the fireplace in the living room and lit a fire with a small spark from his hand.
The little girl watching couldn't understand how the fire started. Tom had made sure she saw it on purpose. He wanted to show her something that would help her relax. After turning on the TV, Tom turned to the girl and began to speak. "I have some work to do; I won't be late."
Tom left the necessary things on the table in case the girl got hungry or needed anything. The house was warm and safe. Tom made sure the house was safe before he left. He didn't think anyone could get into the house while he wasn't there. He had locked the house so that Nora would not leave. It was impossible for a fire to break out in the house; the fire Tom had lit was magical and would never go beyond its boundaries.
Tom walked into the house he had seen in Nora's memories. He was in Nora's room now. Everything was in disarray. As Tom left the room, he saw that all the doors were open. Voices were coming from the room at the end of the hall. Tom picked up his wand. As he entered the room, he saw that they were homeless people. Once again, Tom saw that it was the right move for the girl to leave the house.
When one of the homeless men saw Tom, he was startled and pointed him out to his friend. Seeing Tom's nice clothes, the homeless men thought he was rich. One of the men stood up, pulled a knife from his pocket, and pointed it at Tom. "You made a mistake coming here. This is our place now; if you want to live, leave everything you have on you." Tom started to laugh; he was quite angry and someone was still messing with him.
Tom raised his wand and pointed it at the two men. The men started to laugh. "You think you can fight us with a stick? Let me show you what a weapon is." The man laughed as he showed his knife. Black smoke came out of Tom's staff and enveloped the two men. Before they could make a sound, the smoke engulfed them.
Tom had absorbed the men's life force with this spell. He could feel that his body was stronger now. There was not a trace left of the men's bodies. Their clothes were also destroyed by Tom. After venting his anger on the two men, Tom left the room and went down the wooden stairs to the lower floor of the house.
As he cautiously descended the stairs, wand in hand, the sunlight had turned crimson as it entered the windows of the house, giving it a reddish glow. Looking at the door, Tom saw that it was broken. Whoever had done this had forced their way into the house.
The reason the homeless had entered the house was because they thought the house was unoccupied. When Tom checked the house, he confirmed that no one was there. There was some dried blood on the floor. Tom closed the curtains and mended the broken door with magic. Now no one could see in from the outside. When he waved his wand in the middle of the living room, some images began to appear.
A woman stood with Nora, while an old man sat in a chair. Suddenly, voices came from outside. The woman led Nora up the stairs. The old man sitting in the chair went into another room and returned a short time later with a rifle in his hand. As the man pointed the rifle at the door, a voice was heard from outside. "You son of a bitch, you have 10 seconds to open this door." As the man aimed his rifle, the door broke.
Five or more men entered with guns in their hands. The old man continued to aim his rifle while the men who had entered pointed their pistols at the old man. After hesitating for a moment, the old man lowered his rifle. The men began to beat the old man.
Meanwhile, a woman came down from above. The woman who came down was Nora's mother. The men who entered the house grabbed the woman and brought her in front of one of them. The man grinned as he spoke. "You have not paid your debt. You have disrespected me. What do you want me to do with you?"
The woman was shaking with fear; she could barely speak. "We didn't take the debt. We didn't take your money. We have nothing to do with this." The man began to laugh. "Whether it's your husband or you, I'm taking my money from you. Since you don't have a husband, I'm taking it from you."
The man smiled wickedly. "I hear you have a little girl." The woman began to beg. "Please don't touch her, please, I'll do whatever you want." Seeing the woman's reaction, the man turned to the other men and shouted. "Search the house; if you find anyone, bring them to me.
The woman was too afraid to speak. She was not afraid for herself, but for her daughter. About 15 minutes later, all the men had finished searching, but they hadn't found anyone.
The man turned to the woman and asked a question. "Where is the girl?" The woman tried not to show that she had nothing to say. "She went with her father; he took my daughter with him, please don't touch my daughter. The man was unhappy because he didn't get what he wanted. "Well, if the girl isn't here, I'll just take you." The men took the woman by force.
The old man had died from too much beating. The men picked up the body of the old man and carried it away.
