Chapter 134: Experimentation(2)
"Not to worry though you aren't actually suffocating so you'll be fine in a few minutes. It's rather unfortunate that in order to make this viable I'd need to rewrite your entire vascular system but that's what these experiments are for after all." I said as the dude just glared at me while hyperventilating.
I returned his lungs to normal once he was done being dramatic and moved onto my next experiment, Additional limbs. I hadn't attempted to create extra limbs on myself despite it being theoretically possible simply because I wasn't sure what the consequences of doing so would be.-
Keep in mind that any transformation I take on has a deadline that after reaching it starts to cause the change to be permanent or at least as permanent as it could be since I could just transform it back to normal afterwards. There were other issues with adding more limbs than what you had originally in that the limb has to be made from something and has to be built in exacting detail or it won't work. I'm talking nerves, muscle fibers, ligaments, joints, bones the whole shebang.-
Theres detailed work and then theres legitimately making a whole new limb or gods forbid(literally) a whole body. Oh yes did I forget to mention that creating Homunculi or manmade sentient life was forbidden as fuck. Something about it encroaching on the realm of the divine and being a mockery of divine power and the natural order. It also didn't help that these false souls apparently gunked up the afterlife in the divine realm as they simply had no place set aside for them. This was actually one of Hestia's concerns when I first started trying to make cursed tools and ended up making cursed spirits instead as she was worried I'd accidentally create something able to think.-
If I had believe me I would have been WAY more concerned than she was as that meant it was special grade which was not good at all. Anyways I started trying to create a new arm on the dude using his current ones as a blueprint of sorts. It didn't go so great. Placement was a bit of an issue as for obvious reasons his body wasn't designed to have another arm anywhere on it which I had to fix.-
This meant readjusting his skeletal structure on the side I was adding the arm as well as the muscles there. Then I had to basically force feed the dude so I could grow out the arm as I couldn't make something from nothing. I discovered yet another fucking problem in the form of neuro pathways and control as his brain ALSO wasn't wired for an extra limb and stalled at the new feedback from it after I was done. He didn't fry his brain or anything like that but his reactions were muted and his reflexes were slow as his brain focused it's full force on understanding this new limb.-
'So the strain on the mind is too much with an additional limb and not viable, a pity.' I thought before resetting the dudes body.
I then reused the extra limb to create a third eye on his forehead which was a pain in the ass as the sheer density and complexity of nerves involved was mindboggling. I ignored the fact that the new eye was unusual colored since it did work if nothing else. The results of this experiment were fascinating as while he struggled with the extra view provided by the eye he quickly adapted to it.-
I then started moving the location of the eye and got some good feedback as a result. Naturally the closer to the original eyes the new one was placed the faster the adaptation to it. Second I discovered that placing the eye on the back of the head got dangerously close to frying the brain. The almost full three sixty vision was too much for the brain to process and caused it to become very strained very fast because of the conflicting information. I sealed shut one of the original eyes and that lowered the strain to an acceptable level but still more than was viable.-
"Welp that's all I had planned for now so you can go." I said as I reduced the dude to ash with my flames.
'I suppose I should let Hestia know that I arrived here, assuming she isn't already aware that is.' I thought as I took out my chat coin.
It buzzed for a moment before the other end of the connection picked up "Took you long enough, what happened?" she asked annoyed and with clear concern.
"Nothing you need to worry about, just had to deal with some brigands that chose the wrong mark. Well that and kill the Goliath but really that only took me like a minute tops." I said casually.
"How dumb were those brigands to think you were a good target? Don't answer that I don't want to actually know. So how long do you think you'll be gone this time?" she asked with her voice loosing it's tension.
I chuckled "Oh I don't know precisely but at least a week and a half so ten or eleven days I suppose. Really it depends on how good my harvests are on materials." I said honestly.
"Alright but remember to be careful and call me everyday!" she said firmly.
"Yes yes, now you can go back to sunbathing or napping or whatever it is that you do since you've already sold your figurines for the day." I said with a grin as I cut the call before she could retort.
With that done I pressed my hand against the wooden side of my base and with a quick use of my technique grew out some strong branches with thick green leaf material stretched out between them to form a soft hammock.-
I was aware that it was late in the evening after I finished my experiments due to the crystals on the ceiling of the floor dimming. I laid out on my makeshift bed and drifted off to sleep peacefully. In the morning when the crystals high above began to brighten up I woke up and grabbed my bags while slipping my helm/mask on. It was time to get to work and I had oh so much to do.
