...

"Brave John, not sniveling like a sissy anymore?"

"Shut up! I'll shoot you dead!"

Facing the demon's taunts, John's eyes glowed red as he stared furiously at his opponent.

"You won't."

The demon shook its head. "John, I know you're just pretending to be a tough kid. More than that, I know the real you—the one who dreams of the lab at night and wakes up trembling in fear."

Hearing this, John's breathing grew erratic.

Noticing that John seemed on the verge of losing his composure, Peter patted his shoulder, signaling him to calm down, then turned to the demon and asked, "Who are you, exactly?"

"Maybe I'm you."

The demon brushed a speck of dust off its shoulder. "Maybe I'm God. Maybe I'm the Devil. Or perhaps, I'm simply the embodiment of fate—the thing you curse every morning when you wake up and every night before you sleep. Who's to say?"

Unable to hold back any longer, John activated his super-speed and charged straight at the demon.

The demon, unperturbed, blew a gentle breath, sending John hurtling backward uncontrollably.

"Don't be so hasty, little John. I've got plenty of time. I'm sick of hell, so I've come to the human world for some fun. I'm in no rush," the demon said calmly, as if everything was under control.

Seeing the demon's relaxed demeanor, Peter wasted no more words and attacked immediately.

As Peter closed the distance with lightning speed, the demon stomped lightly on the ground.

Two massive fire dragons erupted from the trembling earth, their heat so intense it distorted the air around them.

Peter dodged the first dragon, but the second followed him relentlessly.

Feeling the searing heat closing in, Peter realized that the demon's power had grown significantly since their last encounter at the bar.

Unable to evade, Peter raised his arms to shield himself.

A muffled grunt escaped him as his body smashed into a wall, creating a deafening crash amidst a cloud of dust.

Seeing Peter struck down, an enraged John fired his heat vision at the demon.

To John's shock, the demon blocked the attack effortlessly with one hand, its body unmoving.

Undeterred, John ceased his heat vision and dashed behind the demon, swinging his right fist in fury.

A loud crack echoed as John's punch, like a thunderclap, aimed straight for the demon's head.

The demon spun around, raising a single hand to block John's attack.

Unfazed, John, experienced in hand-to-hand combat, shifted his stance and threw a left hook at the demon's jaw from an unexpected angle.

The demon suddenly smiled.

It lowered its hands, allowing John's punch to land squarely on its jaw.

Thud! The demon didn't budge an inch.

"Impossible!" John's eyes widened in disbelief.

Before he could recover, the demon grabbed his left arm.

With a violent yank, it swung John into the air, twisting his body in rapid circles.

John felt a sharp pain in his arm and had no choice but to rotate along with the force to avoid dislocating it.

Suddenly, flames engulfed the demon's hand, spreading rapidly across John's body.

Though his steel-like physique kept him from suffering fatal injuries, the searing heat drew agonized screams from him.

"AAAH!"

Amidst his cries, the corridor and the demon vanished.

John found himself in an incineration chamber—a recurring nightmare from his dreams.

Looking down, he was shocked to see his arm unharmed.

Wasn't he just fighting the demon? How did he end up here?

As the room's temperature rose, John felt his skin start to burn.

With a sudden burst of flames, fire engulfed him, spreading over his entire body.

"No! No!"

Surrounded by flames, he screamed in agony.

Outside the chamber, two workers observed his reactions, unbothered by his suffering, as if it were just part of their routine.

One worker jotted down experimental data, while the other occasionally tossed crumpled paper into a nearby trash can, mimicking a basketball game.

Just as John was about to succumb to the pain, the metal door to the chamber was kicked open with a loud bang.

A familiar silhouette rushed in, extinguishing the flames on John with a single touch.

In his dazed state, the figure's face gradually came into focus—it was Peter.

"Are you okay, John?" Peter asked, gripping John's hand.

After recovering from the demon's attack, Peter had rushed to save John, blowing out the flames engulfing him.

John, his clothes tattered and his face blackened, looked around to find the chamber and workers gone. He was back in the corridor where they had been fighting the demon.

Wiping soot from his face, John hesitantly asked, "Dad? Was that a dream?"

"The dream is over now. Are you hurt?"

Peter couldn't discern what John had just experienced but guessed he might have been trapped in an illusion.

"I'm fine, Dad," John replied, taking a deep breath. "That wasn't just a fake illusion—it was a real nightmare. Thank you, Dad!"

Peter patted John heavily on the shoulder. "No need for thanks. Focus on dealing with him first."

"Dad, I have a plan," John said confidently.

"What's the plan?"

"I need you to cover me. If I can get close to him, I can finish this."

"Are you sure?" Peter asked skeptically, surprised by John's sudden confidence.

"My advantage is that I can fly, Dad. Trust me, I can do this."

Seeing John's determined expression, Peter nodded. "Alright, I'll cover you."

Peter gathered energy from his divine form, preparing a powerful attack similar to a chest cannon.

The demon sidestepped Peter's attack effortlessly and slammed his arm into the ground, causing an explosive backlash that sent Peter flying.

In the split second the demon was distracted, John moved at lightning speed, locking the demon's arms and propelling both of them into the sky.

With a roar, John burst through the sound barrier, hurtling toward the atmosphere with the demon in tow.

"You'd sacrifice yourself for others, John?" the demon asked in disbelief.

"Everything comes at a cost, and I'm not afraid. If taking you down means giving my life, so be it," John replied resolutely.

Peter, watching from below, was left speechless. "That kid… Is he trying to take the demon into space?!"
