Chapter 93: Class Examination [4]

"The next two roles will be less focused on combat, and more on information. First we have the scouts. Your job will be to identify white donkey trails, locate safe zones for our other teams, and map out the most efficient routes through both environments. You'll also be in charge of monitoring our rivals, tracking their movements, identifying their camping spots, and reporting anything you find important."

The more agile students showed interest in this role, understanding the importance of intelligence gathering.

"Puzzle Solvers: This team will focus exclusively on the Ruins and Shrines, working to decode the magical puzzles and locate the hidden Crest Mark chambers. You'll need analytical thinking, magical sensitivity and strength to protect yourself from other solvers you will encounter during your expeditions."

"Last but not least, the survivalists: You'll build temporary shelters, manage our supplies and equipment, and handle emergency medical situations. This includes concocting antidotes for any magical traps we might encounter and ensuring everyone stays in fighting condition throughout the six-hour examination."

Elen's eyes lit up at this description, clearly seeing where her skills would be most valuable.

The organizational structure was clear and comprehensive, giving everyone a defined role while maintaining flexibility for adaptation as circumstances changed.

We spent the next five minutes efficiently organizing everyone into their respective roles based on their individual strengths and preferences. The process went more smoothly than I had anticipated, with most students having a clear understanding of where they would be most effective.

Elen joined the Survivalists team without hesitation. Her magical strength wasn't particularly high compared to some of our classmates, and she recognized that her analytical mind and alchemical knowledge would be far more valuable managing equipment and concocting healing potions if they became necessary during the examination.

Emmet didn't need to think much about his choice, immediately selecting the Hunters role. "I want to fight," he stated simply. "I don't want to deal with anything else." His straightforward approach was exactly what I expected from him - direct combat was where he excelled and felt most comfortable.

Marcus had surprisingly decided to join the Survivalists as well, which caught me off guard given his combat capabilities. "My background and bloodline will allow me to help build effective shelters," he explained when I raised an eyebrow at his choice. "The Ironhold family has extensive experience with construction and fortification."

While it wasn't necessarily a bad strategic decision, his power level could easily place him in the Hunters role where his strength would be more directly applicable. I didn't reject his choice, letting him proceed as he pleased for now. If things went poorly during the examination, I would need to have a conversation with him about reassignment.

I knew that convincing Marcus to change his mind would be particularly difficult. Even Kyle in the original novel had struggled to influence Marcus's decisions effectively. The Ironhold family was renowned for their patience and methodical approach to everything, and Marcus clearly embodied those traits. I would need to take my time building trust with him rather than trying to force immediate compliance.

A few other students caught my attention, especially those joining the Scouting and Puzzle Solvers teams. I recognized several of them from the novel - they were consistently top-performing students with solid reputations. While they weren't necessarily exceptional talents who would reshape the story, they were competent individuals who would contribute meaningfully to our overall success.

The Scouts included students with enhanced perception abilities and natural stealth talents, while the Puzzle Solvers comprised those with strong analytical minds and magical sensitivity for detecting hidden enchantments.

With our team structure finalized, we quickly discussed basic coordination signals and emergency protocols. Everyone understood their primary responsibilities and how to communicate critical information back to the group.

The organization felt solid and comprehensive. Each team had clear objectives that would contribute to our overall Crest Mark accumulation while maintaining enough flexibility to adapt as circumstances changed during the examination.

"Attention!" the Commander's voice boomed across the entire area, immediately silencing all conversation among the assembled classes. "Your preparation time has ended. The examination begins now. You have exactly Two Days. Good luck - you'll need it."

"Attention!" the Commander's voice boomed across the entire area, immediately silencing all conversation among the assembled classes. "Your preparation time has ended. The examination begins now. You have exactly two days. Good luck, you'll need it."

Without waiting for any further instruction, students from all the other classes immediately darted toward the large gate that stood wide open. Everyone understood that getting an early advantage by entering first could be crucial for securing the best hunting grounds and puzzle locations.

As the mass exodus began, I held my team back with a simple gesture, raising my hand to signal them to wait. They all looked confused by this decision, and I could see some of them beginning to question my leadership ability. The delay seemed counterintuitive when every other class was rushing to claim territory.

"Why are we just standing here?" one student muttered, clearly frustrated. "We're losing valuable time while everyone else gets ahead of us."

Before any real dissent could build, Emmet turned toward the complaining students with his characteristic cold gaze, his expression brooking no argument.

"We already chose him as our leader," Emmet stated flatly, his voice carrying an edge of warning. "There will be no overturning of leadership decisions now. If you had problems with Adrian taking charge, you should have spoken up during the selection process."

"Bu-"

"Do you want to fight?" Emmet said, whilst walking towards the students with a smile on his face.

Elen immediately intervened. "Let's calm down guys."

The students who had been voicing doubts sighed in resignation and fell silent, though their body language still showed obvious impatience with the delay.

As Kyle's group entered the forest area, he turned back to look at me with obvious curiosity, clearly wondering what strategy I had in mind that required holding back while everyone else rushed forward. His expression showed both confusion and interest, but he didn't let it stop his own team's advance.
