Chapter 71: Blacksmithing Room [1]

I made my way towards Section G, but this time it wasn't for class or normal training.

I scanned my card on the door reader, hearing the mechanism click as access was granted.

[-1,000 Points]

Once inside the room, I was greeted with a sight that immediately impressed me.

The blacksmithing workshop was spacious and meticulously organized, designed for both safety and efficiency.

Dominating the centre of the room stood a massive forge, its iron body blackened from countless hours of use. The forge's mouth glowed with steady heat, maintained by a combination of magical enhancement and traditional coal. Above it, a crystal drew smoke and sparks upward, keeping the air breathable despite the intense heat.

To the left of the forge, a heavy anvil sat mounted on a thick wooden stump, its steel surface polished smooth from years of hammering. Arranged nearby were hammers of various weights and sizes, from delicate finishing tools to massive sledgehammers.

Along the walls, tool racks held an impressive array of specialized equipment: tongs in different shapes for gripping hot metal, files for smoothing surfaces, chisels for detailed work, and measuring instruments for accurate crafting. A large water trough sat ready for quenching heated metals, its surface occasionally rippling from the workshop's vibrations.

Workbenches lined two walls, their surfaces scarred but sturdy, equipped with vises for securing projects during detailed work. Raw materials were organized in clearly labelled sections - iron bars, steel billets, various alloys. These materials were just the basics, and nothing like the items that I had bought from the shop.

The lighting was excellent, combining natural illumination from high windows with magical orbs that could be adjusted for different tasks. Ventilation systems kept the air moving, preventing the accumulation of dangerous fumes while maintaining the necessary heat levels around the forge.

Safety equipment was prominently displayed and easily accessible - leather aprons, protective gloves, eye shields, and burn treatment supplies. The academy clearly took student welfare seriously in these potentially hazardous workshops.

This was a tier 1 facility that could accommodate everything that a tier 1 blacksmith would use, it was by no means comparable to the more advanced facilities available at the academy.

It was the most basic blacksmithing room in the academy.

------

I took out the items I had purchased and placed them carefully on the workbench. I had bought a kilogram of Mithril.

the legendary lightweight metal that was stronger than steel despite feeling almost weightless in the hand. Perfect for creating things like delicate Armor that wouldn't restrict movement, blacksmiths prized it for crafting mail that felt like silk but could stop arrows cold.

I had also acquired a kilogram of Orichalcum wire. The golden metal that naturally channeled magical energy with remarkable efficiency. It was just like copper for conducting electricity back in the real world, Orichalcum Ideal for crafting spell-focus weapons, enchanted tools, and items that stored mana for later use. The metal glowed faintly when magic flowed through it, making it easy to monitor energy flow during the crafting process.

A kilogram of Quicksilver Steel, which was a Mercury-infused alloy that's incredibly flexible yet strong. Weapons made from it can bend without breaking and return to shape. It was popular for whips, flexible blades, and adaptive Armor.

Finally, I had purchased a chunk of Resonite. The peculiar stone that vibrated at specific frequencies when exposed to magical energy. This was the core component used in communication crystals that allowed long-distance speaking. The stone could amplify both sound and magical signals across vast distances with proper preparation.

I had bought these materials not for a single project, but for multiple ambitious undertakings that would push my blacksmithing knowledge to its limits.

The Mithril would serve as a stable base material for most of my projects. Its unique properties made it invaluable as a foundation component, lightweight enough not to burden the user, yet strong enough to maintain structural integrity under stress.

The Orichalcum wire was another essential element. Most magical items needed proper mana conduction channels, otherwise their effects would be severely diminished. The golden metal's natural affinity for magical energy made it perfect for creating the internal networks that would power my creations.

The Resonite was where things became both tricky and exciting. With this stone, I could attempt to create something revolutionary, a communication device far more advanced than the basic crystals currently available. The existing communication crystals were essentially magical versions of old rotary phones from Earth, functional but primitive.

One of my ambitious goal was to craft an enhanced communication device with multiple frequency channels, possibly even visual transmission capabilities if I could integrate the Resonite properly with Orichalcum conducting networks.

But another project was what really excited me, a flying sword controlled through mana manipulation. Naturally, awakeners gained the ability to fly at Royal rank, but I wanted that capability much earlier. The advantages of aerial mobility in this world were enormous, and the applications for exploration, combat, and escape scenarios were limitless.

Plus, I had to admit, it would look incredibly cool to casually summon a flying sword for transportation.

The technical challenges would be difficult to navigate but it would also be fun and very useful. I'd need to create a stable levitation enchantment, integrate responsive control systems, and ensure the sword could bear my weight safely during flight. The Mithril would provide the structural foundation, while Orichalcum networks would channel my mana into the levitation mechanisms.

While I had all these ambitious thoughts, attempting them immediately would be impractical. They were projects that needed more planning, it wasn't easy to create them. For now, I wanted to create something immediately useful and within my current capabilities.

A crossbow.

In a world dominated by swords and shields, the crossbow represented a revolution. No years of training required, no master archer's strength needed, just a trigger, a bolt, and precision at distance.

The crossbow I intended to craft wouldn't be useful against higher-rank opponents, but that wasn't my target market. I planned to design it for Noble-rank and Elite-rank awakeners with lower-tier bloodlines, a substantial demographic that would represent both an incredible business opportunity and a manageable first project.

Hopefully the crossbow would evolve to suit higher rankers as my knowledge and strength increased, but for now this was what I was capable.
