Daily life in a Slime Dungeon

Chapter 2: Slimy Beginnings

A small bush, with blue foliage gently swayed on the wind. On the tip of some of the leaves, grew big, red fruits, which were light enough to not bend even slightly the leaf.

A creature which resembles a bunny jumped close to it, smelling the fruits. The bunny opened it's mouth, and it's gigantic tongue pierced through the fruit, leaving a hole in the middle; the tongue was seemingly made out of bone on it's tip, sharp enough to pierce through rock.

The bunny looked around, and used it's tongue to pierce the leaf, making the fruit fall down.

As the fruit touched the ground, a tail flew in the bunny's direction.

It pierced the bunny's head, splattering the little creature's innards in the bush.

Taki dropped from side of the tree, and grabbed the bunny with his claws. He held back the vomit in his throat, and smiled.

'I finally managed to hunt something.' Taki jiggled the dead bunny in his hands. Some blood spilled on his body.

It had been three days since he was reborn in this mysterious forest.

As he had spent too much time on the internet, he thought this would be something easier, that he would be assisted by a system of sorts to help him get acquainted with his environment, but sadly, all he had was himself.

The forest was a brutal place. Carnivorous plants, birds of prey that were the size of cars, and insects that could leap from tree to tree to hunt whatever they could. The water on the lakes and rivers seemed to be fine, but all water that touched the plants seemed to turn into acid. His scales would burn and tear when a drop fell on his skin. Most of the fruits were poisonous, one of them sending Taki into a coma as he tasted it with his tongue.

In the day, it was rather quiet, with only the small herbivores (which still proved to be dangerous) roaming around the ground to pick on bushes and ground plants.

But on the night, it was a completely different place. He could hear the sounds of bloodshed when the sun was gone, with beasts crying out their lasts sounds as the predators of the night made their moves. Taki was not able to sleep in these three days, as he had to keep on the move during the darkness.

Taki ended up giving the forest a nickname: Azure Deathland.

Taki would begin to feel blessed, as his new body felt made for the darkness of the forest. His eyes were able to see perfectly in the night. His scales were so dark, he was invisible even while in plain sight. His hearing was phenomenal, and he had this innate instinct, which seemed to keep him out of trouble. His physical conditions were greatly improved as well, being able to move nimbly, and being able remain without food or sleep for three days without any seemingly negative effect.

However, he had begin to feel hungry on the start of the fourth day, and decided he had to finally hunt, and actually get the pray this time.

Having succeeded, he looked at the dead creature in his hand. He wondered if he should roast the bunny-like creature on a campfire, or if he should eat it raw.

He took a bite out of the flesh, tearing the meat out with his sharp fangs.

He threw up on the ground.

'God, this is horrible.' he thought to himself, wiping the blood of his mouth. 'I need to prepare this bunny-thing.'

'Bunny... But it's not really a bunny, it has this horrible tongue bone, and it is really, really dumb. Maybe I could start giving those beasts names?'

'What about... Bonny? As in Bone and Bunny? Gosh, I feel like a scientist already.'

--- --- ---

Taki started to gather branches and any dried up leaf he could find. The blue leaves, when drying up, would become a strange purple color, and a strange, sticky residue would start to come out of it. Only after that residue faded, the leaves would dry. Taki spent a good time of the afternoon gathering these resources, and when he realized it, night had fallen upon him.

'Oh crap.' Taki said, as he looked at the rooftop of the forest. A consequence of having great dark sight was that you wouldn't realize when night arrived. Taki quickly gathered the bunny corpse and the the campfire material, and started to roam through the forest quietly, looking for a place to hide.

He would not dare to make the campfire in the open, and get attacked by one of the terrifying panther-like beasts, which he saw snatch a gigantic eagle in the air, in one fell swoop.

He kept looking, and sneaking, but all he could find were more trees and suspicious bushes, which he avoided. He was nervous, as the smell of the bonny's corpse could be attracting a predator at this exact moment.

And that was when he dropped a single stick on the ground. He immediately held his breath, and looked at his surroundings, deadly aware of the deadly mistake he had just deadly made.

Taki's instinct screamed for him to look upwards. As his head turned upwards, a massive snake spat out a massive ball of liquid at him, it's body tangled on a tree nearby.

He rolled on the ground to avoid the liquid, which hit the ground. The snake then emitted a loud hiss, which seemed to split the air, and spat something else: sparks. As soon as the sparks touched the liquid, it exploded into a roaring ball of flames.

But Taki wasn't there to see it: He had already started running for his life. He still held the corpse and the sticks in his ground, determined not to lose his hard-earned materials.

He jumped, rolled and slid his way across the forest, as he heard the loud sounds of the creatures coming from behind him, as well as that horrible, hissing sound from the snake.

Until he saw something he had never seen before in the Azure Deathlands:

A cave. Made out of stone as dark as his own scales, he could barely notice it in the rush. The cave had a small entrance, a quarter of his size.

Taki's instincts seemed to shout at him to enter it, although it was a stupid idea: He would be cornered by the creatures, and have nowhere to run. But his instinct hadn't failed him before, so he picked up even more speed, and slid into the small opening.

He then immediately lifted himself up, turned around, and used the sticks and leaves he found to block the opening; his hands shaking and trembling from the adrenaline.

He sighed, slumping into the ground. His body thanking him for finally stopping and taking a breath. As he closed his eyes, he heard another sound: A gooey sound.

He opened his eyes, to find a round, small, green Slime, with two cute eyes approaching him.

And... there was something that Taki was familiar with.

'Is... Is that a smartphone inside that Slime?'
