Daily life in a Slime Dungeon

Chapter 10: The Azure Slime, part 2.

Bluesy sat in front of the throne, as Taki slumped over one of the armrests. A small vacuum, as if made by a flame that originated from the Pedestal, floated shimmering red particles from Taki's chest to a small crystal orb that was forming.

The other Slimes sat in a half circle around Bluesy.

"My brothers!" Bluesy enunciated, his tone more clear than usual. "Our King fall into deep sleep, it is our job to take care of Kingdom while King is absent. I shall take command while King is out, like past, poyo. Brothers, we work hard at our duties! Me and other two King Guard will assist where we can."

The Slimes all had a distressed look on their faces, but nodded with resolution. Bluesy slid out of the steps, and approached his two squad companions.

"We assist hunting team, poyo. It is best if we split into more of us to work hard."

The Slimes nodded, letting out agreeable 'poyo's, and called the hunting squad.

The hunting squad approached. Their scars and crack on their shells were noticeable. The three were the first Slimes that split from Bluesy, and they were the firsts to learn to fight.

When the dungeon became empty, wild beasts and monsters would try to enter the cave to make it their lairs, but these Slimes would always fight, sometimes to death, to protect what they called a home. Bluesy was their best fighter, but these three had experience as well. The other Slimes would flail wildly with their pseudopods in combat, rendering them less than useful.

The Hunting squad and the King's Guard exchanged brief poyos, and headed out of the room, into the forest.

--- --- ---

A Slime rolled to the left, avoiding the horn of the beast just in time. Bluesy dropped from the tree above them, and spun in the air, smashing into the head of the beast with four pseudopods sequentially.

The beast let out a yelp, and fell down onto the ground, knocked out.

Bluesy took one branch on the ground, and twirling his pseudopod around it, stabbed the neck of the beast. Blood flew onto the ground, painting the foliage nearby red, in place of their deep blue.

He dragged the beast, and threw it onto the carrier Slime. He had the corpses of several other creatures, all of them medium-sized, floating inside of him.

Bluesy exchanged 'poyo's with the carrier slime, and he quickly jiggled in direction of the cave.

Bluesy waved to the other Slimes, and they made a small circle.

"The forest weird today. No small monster, very quiet, animals hide, poyo. You think this weird?"

"Po. Poyo po yopoyo poyoyo, po. Poyo po?"

"I agree. Brothers, keep hunt going. I return home and talk to him."

The Slimes nodded. Bluesy used his pseudopods to swing from tree to tree, grabbing onto their barks and branches and flinging himself across the air.

Bluesy kept thinking about this weird feeling he had since his King collapsed. He felt that something was wrong, even though the evidence pointed to nothing being wrong. A shiver traveled through his shell, and his pace quickened.

As he got closer and closer to the base, this feeling grew bigger and bigger, and all his instincts screamed at him to hurry.

He landed in front of the cave, and quickly slid inside the small hole, softening his shell to enter the small cracks that Taki's leaves had left.

"PO, YO!" Bluesy shouted into the cave, frowning.

"Po, yo! Po!" another Slime shouted from inside the cave. Bluesy sighed in relief, it seems that everything was fine in his cave- nay, in the Kingdom of Azurea.

He wobbled in direction of the cave's deeper tunnel, looking forward to visiting the 'fire room' for a snack.

However, his instincts shouted at him to roll to the left. He quickly did so, evading a ball of poison that flew past him.

He quickly spun around, and looked at the entrance.

A large, black snake, with four pairs of red eyes and three split tongues, one of which was dripping flames. It hissed, blowing a small fireball into the air. A hole was tore in the wall, but somehow Bluesy hadn't noticed it.

His pseudopods flailed into the air.

"Poy-!" he tried to shout, but another ball of poison was shot in his direction. Bluesy launched himself in the air using his pseudopods, and stuck into the ceiling. He then smashed against the ceiling, launching himself in the snake's direction.

The snake opened it's mouth, spewing flames in the Slime's direction. Bluesy closed his eyes, retracting his pseudopods, and hardening his shell.

From the flames of the fireball, a gigantic blue ball of Slime cut the roaring fire and smashed into the snake's head, causing it to hit the wall. The snake let out another hiss, and stood tall, almost touching the ceiling of the cave.

Bluesy frowned. He had never fou- he rolled to the side, evading a bite that was lightning fast. There was no time to think.

He slid back, trying to create distance between himself and the snake, but it darted in his direction, and he had to launch himself to the ceiling again. However, the snake quickly turned it's head upwards, and spit out a ball of poison, catching Bluesy in full.

Bluesy used his pseudopod to grab onto the body of the snake, and slung himself towards the cave's entrance. His eyes were frantic. He then roped himself on the tail of the Snake, and smacked it with one of his pseudopods.

However, the scales were tough. A mere bash from a slime wouldn't be able to hurt the snake. He felt his instincts scream again, and jumped to the side instead of rolling. Flames flew by making the pool of poison he left catch on fire.

If Bluesy's shell burned from the oil, his shell would surely melt, and he would cease from existing. He rolled backwards, avoiding another snake bite.

Bluesy's simple, slimefic mind was running amok, looking for a solution. The Snake was about to bite him again, when a sharp stick spun through the air, smashing its head and snapping in half.

Bluesy eyes widened. He had an idea.

Bluesy looked surprised at the deeper parts of the dungeon, and found the other Slimes throwing rocks and sticks at the snake's head. The snake hissed at them, setting the cave filled with poison on fire, and slithered towards them. The other Slimes let out surprised 'Pyo!" and darted towards the deeper part of the cave.

Bluesy launched himself again using his pseudopods, flying above the flames, and ran towards the snake. He couldn't let the Snake get his King or his brothers, Bluesy was the strongest and had to protect his King and his brothers, like how it always has been.

The Snake darted inside a room, and the sound of rumbling came from inside. Bluesy quickly followed, and saw the massive snake hissing flames at a cornered and shaking slime, with rocks floating inside of him. He opened his maw and spit out a big rock, hitting the snake on one of it's eyes. The snake hissed another ball of flames toward the Slime, and flew to bite him.

If those fangs pierced the Slime's shell, it would be over.

Bluesy steeled himself, and launched himself towards the Slime with his pseudopods.

'I'm not fast enough!' his mind screamed, all his senses directed towards one singular purpose. He would have to do this, now or never.

Bluesy bashed the floor again with another pseudopod, sending him into a spin. He combined all his pseudopods into one, and changed its shape and hardness.

The Snake's head was cut clean off, biting the ground just right by the shivering Slime. The fangs pierced the stone, creating cracks on the rock floor.

Bluesy hit the wall, plopping into the ground.

"POYO!" the shivering Slime ran to Bluesy's side, its pseudopods helping him get up. The Slime then noticed Bluesy's pseudopods, and quickly darted back, creating distance. "Poyo?!"

Bluesy's pseudopods had combined with each-other, and formed into the shape of a long, serrated blade. When he flew by, spinning, he used the momentum to cut the Snake's head off.

"Poyo, I, po, thought that instead of smashing when spinning, why not try piercing, like our King? But spinning and piercing is not effective, so what if many piercing at once? Anyways, be grateful! I save your life again!"

The still shivering Slime stared at the bladed pseudopod for a while, and then let out a loud "Poyo!", hugging Bluesy with his pseudopods, ignoring the poisonous oil around him.

Other Slimes rushed into the room, letting out gasps at the bloody scene.

Bluesy looked at the now dead Snake. "We still have much work to do, the Kingdom of Azurea shall be grand, brothers!"

None of the Slimes noticed, but Bluesy's color had became slightly lighter.
