Chapter 584: This is a Vendetta
Ran Xueyi knew she was pulling on his restraints.
Lu Chengyu was an ambitious and greedy person. But she had a feeling he wasn't like this in the past. It was unfortunate that Ran Xueyi couldn't completely recall her memories. However, it was enough for her to know that what they had experienced on the island in the past changed them, one way or the other.
Perhaps she was one of the fortunate ones who were able to escape from that organization's grasp. As for the others… they found their own way to escape, through death.
Nonetheless, everyone got what they wanted.
Lu Chengyu and the others who stayed and were captured also got theirs. They should've succumbed to the organization's ways of teaching and learned to live by their rules.
Ran Xueyi watched as Lu Chengyu's face twisted even more terrifyingly. The bunch of mismatched muscles and scarred skin twitched as he boiled in anger, glaring at her as if he couldn't wait to take a bite of her.
Despite that, Ran Xueyi found herself calming down.
"Don't hurry to look for death, Estella. I know you're provoking me, so I would fall into your tricks and tell you where we are…" Lu Chengyu backed away from her. "But too bad, even I don't know where we're heading. No one knows until the ceremony's over. Still, I'm relieved to find you're awake. After all, you'll be able to feel and watch your own destruction."
Lu Chengyu laughed as he went to stand beside his colleagues. He ordered them with a smile, "Since she woke up. Make sure she doesn't sleep. Do everything to make her completely weakened and docile."
With that, he left without turning back. His footsteps rang inside the eerie and dark corridor that seemed like the throat of a monster, making the hearts of the people inside their cages thud heavily in their stomachs.
The man's colleagues were left behind, staring at Ran Xueyi with curiosity. They didn't know who she was or her relationship with their senior. All they knew was that the woman inside the cage was extremely important for the ceremony to progress.
Although they had questions, they knew how not to ask questions. They valued their lives above others. Lu Chengyu's relationship and past with Ran Xueyi were no longer important. They just have to follow their orders and keep watch on her.
Ran Xueyi also didn't talk, letting the two observe her. The girls in the other rooms were also watching her, but that didn't bother her in the slightest.
Rather, Ran Xueyi was occupied in her own thoughts and couldn't care about what other people viewed and thought of her.
From what she knows of her memories, the organization was an obscure one. One that existed for so long, yet was buried in shadows. Only those who were invited or had contributed enough would get a glimpse of the organization. But even then, they couldn't completely become a member of it.
On the other hand, once you've become a member, the privileges and opportunities opened to you would be enough for you to forever desire a place in the organization. From what she heard, it was enough for a person to go crazy and be determined to join.
The privileges and opportunities given were never disclosed. Ran Xueyi was sure that despite not recalling everything in her memories, she still didn't know what they were. But if it was something that could cause the powerful figures in the world to reach their hands on the organization and greedily want to become a part of it, then there was no doubt it should be quite valuable.
However, there was something Ran Xueyi still couldn't understand.
Why was the organization after her?
Why were they still chasing her?
If they were so powerful that nothing in the world was a secret to them. It shouldn't be so hard for them to know that she had lost her memories. There was no need for them to do anything, and let her continue living an ordinary life, standing in the spotlight.
With time, Ran Xueyi would be like leaves, withering and drifting in the wind, clueless of the truth and the past.
Yet, they did the opposite. The organization started a manhunt for her. Perhaps it has something to do with her getting involved and ruining their plans at the villa (referring to the botched CK Show, Ch. 392). It brought too much attention to them, though it wasn't that worrying. Still, that made the organization find Ran Xueyi, and they most likely assumed she had gotten all her memories back.
However, this was still not the answer Ran Xueyi wanted.
If that was the reason why they started to target her, there was no need for a planned abduction. They just needed to hire an assassin and kill her to silence her. Ran Xueyi didn't think they were capable of that.
Then… there could be only one reason she had to go through everything.
When you have a beautiful painting in front of you, a single smudge ruins everything.
When a blank paper got stained by a tiny drop of ink, it would be deemed dirty.
When every strand of fate in the world is in the palm of your hand, but a single thread snaps.
The smudge, drop of ink, and single thread… was Ran Xueyi. She was an anomaly that ruined someone's well-thought-out plans.
This was a vendetta.
Someone's out there trying to use the organization to get her. Lu Chengyu wasn't that person. He's too small and not powerful enough to get the entire organization to agree to capture her.
Besides that, there should be a trigger for everything.
Ran Xueyi couldn't tell whether the incident at the villa was the trigger. But it should be one of them, if there were many others.
Sitting on the cold floor, Ran Xueyi continued thinking, forgetting the time and the world around her.
Even after a day had passed, Ran Xueyi couldn't get a clear answer to everything.
But she somehow cleared a bit of the fog that covered the hidden secrets behind what's happening.
And for her to completely unveil everything, she might have to risk her own life.
Ran Xueyi finally opened her eyes, fire burning within them as she waited for this person who wanted her dead to reveal themselves.
