Cursed to level 1 with an Ego weapon

Chapter 113: Meeting with... her

The young follower of Demisaus stands up looking completely flustered from the blunder he just caused. I am not cruel enough to laugh, and I feel empathy as they must be doing double time working with all the people. The fall was and his reaction was just kind of funny.

"I take my words, they are funny." Karina, on the other hand, doesn't suffer from the consequences of her intrusive thoughts winning.

I just give her a quick mean glance, even if they cannot hear her, I don't want to react entirely to her mean commentary. They are working their butt offs, so they deserve some slack from messing up like this from time to time.

"I just came here to see the altar." I explain. "Thanks for the offer."

"Oh! Okay... If there is anything you need, just ask and we can see what we can do. Please accept the embrace of our mother."

He nods his head and slowly goes down to clean the mess he just caused.

With the initial impression of the temple, it caught me by surprise how normal the interaction was. No talk about death from an old guy telling me about cursed stuff. Nope, one simple intern that seems to be still learning and messes up a bit too often.

Lisa is a follower of the Trifecta, meaning she prays towards the three main deities and their sons and daughters. But temples like these are dedicated to one single deity every so often.

I am so used to deities being evil or having second intentions with their followers that it is odd to see these ones being considered benevolent. Their sons and daughters are not that simple, though, and they are often fighting for followers to do their bidding.

I reach the altar. There is an old man and a woman praying in front of it. I just find a spot besides them without bothering them and kneel.

The altar consists of a stone made of granite, depicting a woman with her face covered in a cloak, holding a bouquet of roses. Petals, leaves, all are on the ground, withered. But behind her, more living flowers, all slowly brimming back alive.

Okay, Demisaus, tell me what do you want?

There are a few moments where nothing happens. I close my eyes. Maybe I have to focus?

Oh, lady death! Tell me what you seek from me!

...

Nothing.

What am I doing?

I look to the side and I am not sure what the hell am I meant to be doing.

I look back at Karina a few moments, and her expression is puzzling. She is looking at the statue of Demisaus like she is in some form of trance.

The woman depicted in the statue is beautiful, which contrasts with the whole situation of death and rotting to become anew. Maybe it is because death is not meant to be something horrible all the time?

I don't know. She seems to be locked on it.

"Lady Demisaus...?" She suddenly says.

Is she converting or something?

Shit, this is annoying, why call me here and do nothing?

The System appears in my face.

[Patience, my child. I always come for everyone in the end.]

Ih, final...

Before I can finish my thought, my surroundings go dark and I only can see the statue in front of me. Surrounding the area, there is a dark void, endless and obscure, nothing besides me and the statue.

"Ah! S-she really is here!" Karina says, reminding me of her presence.

"What? Where are we?" I ask.

Then the statue breaks, slowly a crack goes through the whole thing, throwing a small piece to the ground. I take a step back, worried that it might be a bad omen.

And before I can open my mouth to ask what is going on, the whole statue breaks completely and shatters into billions (don't make me count) pieces of debris.

There is a bright light, and I have to cover my eyes with my arm to protect them from it.

"Good! Little Amber did come to visit!" A kind of mature female voice came. "I am glad you decided to come... You have no idea how long my sibling and I have been looking to talk with you!"

I open my eyes and I see a very tall woman come from within the statue, jumping down from the altar and approaching me. She is huge as fuck! 2 meters and a half? Deities are meant to be this big?! I never met one directly in the game! Red, black and white petal flowers flutter around us, flying into the void to never be seen again.

"Little miss Amber... Who came from another world, I am glad I can finally talk directly to you!" She is smiling and looking down at me, while I have to crank my head up to just stare at her.

She stretches her arm and...

I move back when I see it. What a contrast! She is beautiful, well dotted... And both her arms are just bones!

"Don't be scared... I am here to give you a little help."

"Wait, you know I come from another world!" I stop my fear when I realize the reality of what she just said. "W-eho brought me here? Was someone from the trifecta?"

She stops her hand. Her soft smile turns into a more stern and serious look.

"I know you have several questions, my dear. We do too. The reality of the situation is that none of us brought you to this world."

"Huh? Wait, if it wasn't the trifecta, who could have such power?" Karina asks.

"Good question, dear Karina." Demisaus answers with a soft smile.

For a deity that is meant to symbolize death, she is sort of kind and gentle. I was expecting something different, but her arms are a reminder of what she is.

"You can see me?" Karina asks, and Demisaus only nods.

Not surprising.

"I am here to convey words and a gift. We believe you will be paramount for what is about to happen, and this is something no scholar knows... And maybe they should not realize." She extends both arms. "Little Amber... Are you willing to hear these words?"

I have little choice. I want to figure out the reality of this world and how come it is my save file.
