Chapter 8: Li's Lookalike
Elder Han was busy sorting through pills that were concocted that day. He was removing the near perfect ones from the perfect ones. The alluring scent of pills and medicine permeated the air.
He looked up when he felt powerful pressure and then out of thin air, the sect master appeared in front of him wearing a weary expression.
'Sect master' he exclaimed, quickly rising to his feet.
'Be seated please' the Sect master said as he began to pace all over, having a weary expression on his face. 'Tell me again about the outcome of his testing' he commanded
Elder Han knew who the sect master was asking about even without his name being mentioned.
'A kind of power like I have never felt or seen before burst out of him and forced everything around him to subdue. Sect master, even I felt that pressure and it took all my power to resist that power' elder Han explained 'he has already started gathering Qi, only thing left is for him to control it'.
'That's ridiculous' the sect master exclaimed 'How's that possible for a six year old boy who had never cultivated in his life'.
'It's true sect master. I did the test myself. I had to mask my surprise too. But then I also noticed that his blood is strange. Some crimson coloured substance briefly appeared on the stone, then disappeared almost immediately afterwards' Elder Han replied.
'This is unbelievable. Crimson coloured blood?' the sect master pondered as he gazed absentmindedly away. 'Crimson blood. I saw something like that in a very rare manuscript that was discovered in a thousand year old tomb. I only saw it briefly'.
'Really? Elder Han asked in surprise 'What did it say?
'Nothing much really, just a line about a bloodline that dominated other bloodlines millennials ago. There was something about a battle and a curse. There was just two to three lines with many faded parts' the sect leader replied 'I wonder if Li and this mysterious bloodline are connected in anyway. If so, then the boy needs to be closely watched'.
Elder Han, who had been standing silently by, finally spoke. "Sect Master, Li is still young. He has just begun his cultivation journey."
"Yes, I know," the Sect Master replied, his voice calm. "But I've seen many young children with potential like his. The question is whether he will rise to the challenge or let it slip through his fingers and what either of this will mean for the entire cultivation world."
'Did you notice him withstand my pressure and even resist?
'yes, sect master' Elder Han replied
'Hmmmm. I need to know more about this bloodline of his. A pity we can't test his bloodline till he is eight years old. But in the meantime, I will try and find out more. I must visit the sect scripture pavilion' so saying, the sect master disappeared just the same way he had appeared.
Elder Han stood stock still as he pondered what had just transpired between him and the sect master. He recalled the crimson drop of blood flash in and out of existence on the day of Li's test again and just sighed in resignation.
'What will be, will be' he mused as he walked back to his abandoned task
Li followed Bo Feng as they both walked through winding corridors till Bo Feng stopped in front of a door that had a key in the lock and motioned for him to enter.
'Meals are eaten in the food hall at eight, two and six. Martial arts practice is at nine and sword practice is at four. Cultivation is done in your room except the sect master sends for you. You will be notified of all this by a bell ringing six times on every occassion' Bo Feng told him drily.
He then turned and made to leave.
'Thank you senior brother Bo' Li replied but Bo Feng just looked at him disdainfully and walked off.
Li was taken aback by Bo Feng's reaction to him. He wondered what might have caused the look he saw in Bo Feng's eyes.
He shrugged it off as he opened the door to the room. He saw a simple room with a bed, a table, a chair and a wardrobe. He ran excitedly and jumped on the bed.
'My own bed' Li mused to himself. He had never slept on a bed until he came to the sect. and having a bed all to himself was the height of luxury as far as he was concerned.
He then got up and put the extra robe and pouch he had been giving in the wardrobe.
'What do I do now? He asked himself as he stretched out on the bed looking at the walls and ceiling. Then he felt the kind of power he had earlier felt in the testing room wash all over him.
Tiredness overtook him and he dosed off into deep sleep.
'whaaaaat, wheeeere am I? Li stammered as he was jostled awake in a vast dark space. He looked down and there was vast emptiness. He looked up and it was the same thing, vast emptiness. All around him was vast emptiness as far as his eyes could see. Another surprise was that he was now an adult sized man of about seven feet tall. Every other feature was his exact image.
He was hit by panic as he saw himself encased in a strange armour and holding two weapons; one a spear and the other a shield. The spear, armour and shield glittered with unnatural light as they pulsed with power.
What was strange to Li was not the weapons and the armour but the fact they felt natural, as if they belonged to him.
He felt power, unimaginable power flowing inside him.
Then out of nowhere, a figure appeared before him. The figure looked exactly like him. Same green eyes and black hair but with power pulsing out of him glaringly.
The figure looked into the distance in disdain as he flicked jet black hair back and stood there arrogantly.
Then the figure of a man and a woman appeared in front of Li's lookalike.
The woman had flaming red hair and a figure like that of a beauty queen. Her chest was a wonder to behold and her blue eyes looked like the sky on a clear day. She was quite beautiful but it was also obvious that she was powerful.
She was holding a flaming red staff that had fire all over it. Li was taken aback that the woman held on to the staff without being burned.
The new man was built like giant. Burly, definitely over seven feet tall and with yellow black hair that looked like it was swallowing light. He was holding a giant wall hammer that looked to be quite heavy. He also looked quite powerful.
In all, the three figures before Li looked like titans. They exuded power in abundance. But one could see at a glance that Li's lookalike appears to be the most powerful of the three.
'Sovereign of Eternity, relinquish just a drop of your blood so that we can all three of us share power jointly' the other man said to Li's lookalike
'And why should I be foolish enough to do that? Li's lookalike asked with scorn
'To maintain the balance of the multiverse'. The woman shouted
'What balance? What do the two of you know about balance? Have I ever infringed on your territories or your worlds? Why do you people keep pestering me in order to collect my blood? Li's lookalike that the woman called the Sovereign of eternity roared angrily, his spear sparkling and spewing forth energy.
Li was surprised that the three ignored him. He was afraid that they would notice him and then turn on him, so he just remained still and watched.
'Zhao Tianyi, its either you give us a drop of your blood peacefully or watch us take it forcefully and you die in the process' the burly man threatened
'hahahahaha, come and take it then' Li's lookalike laughed as he pointed his spear at the speaker and a ray of thick molten white light shot out towards the burly man.
The burly man shouted and turned into several mots of light as the light went through him and then passed through Li who was standing in its path behind the man, watching the show unfold.
'I'm dead' he thought but to his surprise, the light passed through him and disappeared into the distance.
The woman opened her mouth in shock and fright, looking at the tiny mots of light that was once the burly man.
'This is not over Zhao Tianyi, we will get your blood whether you like it or not' she threatened and disappeared.
Li watched his lookalike. He was frightened. He was awed seeing the display of power from the man.
'This people will not rest until they steal my bloodline. The can only see the power, they do not know the amount of struggle I go through every second to subdue the curse. Maybe I need to let go.' The man said as he stroked his spear lovingly
The spear pulsed as if it could feel the caress.
It became obvious that Li was invisible to the man because he was standing right in front of him and not seeing him.
'Let them come, I will be waiting' Li's lookalike said defiantly as he stared into the distance and then disappeared.
