Chapter 228: Uninvited Guest
Luo Chen nodded in agreement. The two of them silently climbed over the balcony and stood closely against the wall. The cool night breeze brushed their clothes and hair, but it couldn't dispel the tension and anticipation in their hearts.
Zhao Dongfang looked around warily and then whispered, "We have to patiently wait for the right moment."
Time was slowly passing by, and Luo Chen and Zhao Dongfang waited quietly on the balcony for the opportunity to come. Their eyes were fixed on the entrance to the third floor, fearing they might miss any chance to sneak in.
After an unknown amount of time, the guards on the third floor seemed to have relaxed a bit. Perhaps they thought that on such a night, no one would dare to infiltrate the Dark Night Tower. However, this carelessness provided Luo Chen and Zhao Dongfang with an opportunity.
"Now's the time!" Zhao Dongfang suddenly whispered, his eyes glinting with determination. "Follow me!"
The two of them moved like phantoms, agilely climbing onto the third-floor balcony. Their movements were light and swift, making no sound. Under the cover of night, they successfully infiltrated the third floor.
At this moment, it seemed as if they had entered another world. The decor here was even more luxurious, the ambiance more enchanting. However, they had no time to admire these beautiful sights; they had only one goal—to find Han Longxue!
They cautiously moved through the corridor, avoiding the patrolling guards, inching step by step towards their target room. When they finally reached the door, they found it tightly closed.
Zhao Dongfang gestured to Luo Chen to be silent, then gently knocked on the door. After a moment, a lazy and coquettish voice came from inside: "Who is it?"
However, Luo Chen still did not completely relax. He looked around and noticed that although the balcony was filled with people, there were a few who were alone, without any women accompanying them. This struck him as strange, so he asked Zhao Dongfang, "Why do I feel like these people are waiting for something? Look, those few there are without women."
He chose a good spot to sit, ordered a glass of red wine, and quietly enjoyed the beautiful view of Nadas City. For a moment, he seemed to forget all his troubles and worries, completely immersed in this wonderful night. Meanwhile, Zhao Dongfang continued to relish the joys of fine food and wine, occasionally clinking glasses with Luo Chen, sharing this rare joyful moment.
Luo Chen was lost in his thoughts when he suddenly felt a burning gaze fixed on him. The sensation was intense and undeniable, forcing him to turn around. His eyes met those of a short-haired man in a black robe. The man, as he savored the red wine in his hand, scrutinized Luo Chen with a deep gaze that seemed probing and questioning.
Luo Chen's heart tightened, and he couldn't help but wonder if this person knew him. Why did this man's gaze carry a hint of inexplicable familiarity? He tried to find clues from the man's face, but the handsome and calm expression revealed nothing more than a polite smile.
"Hey, Luo Chen, what are you looking at so intently? Aren't you going to try these desserts?" Zhao Dongfang said as he stuffed his mouth full of desserts, some cream still on his lips, speaking indistinctly.
Luo Chen withdrew his gaze and shook his head. "I don't feel like eating. Do you think we'll see Han Longxue today?"
"Of course we will! Leave it to me." Zhao Dongfang promised with confidence, then lowered his head and began eating again. However, Luo Chen noticed that in the instant Zhao Dongfang lowered his head, a peculiar gleam flashed in his eyes, deepening Luo Chen's doubts.
Just then, the short-haired man in the black robe came over to Luo Chen. Holding a wine glass in one hand and the other hand behind his back, he exuded a gentlemanly and elegant aura. He smiled at Luo Chen, a warm and kind smile that naturally inspired goodwill.
"Young man, we seem to have met somewhere before?" the man said slowly, his voice rich and magnetic.
Luo Chen carefully examined the man in front of him. His features were handsome, and the faint lines on his face added a touch of mature charm. His shoulder-length brown hair and equally brown eyes made him appear both mysterious and captivating. The gentle smile that always graced his face made it hard to refuse any of his questions.
"I don't know," Luo Chen replied honestly, "but I think I have a vague impression of you." He tried to recall, searching for fragments of memory related to this man, but his mind remained blank.
The man did not seem to mind Luo Chen's vague answer and smiled lightly, "It's alright. Memories often become blurred over time. Perhaps, in an unguarded moment, we will suddenly remember those forgotten pasts."
His words carried a deep sense of reflection and philosophy, causing Luo Chen to ponder. And in this brief silence, the man raised his wine glass again, "In any case, meeting here tonight is a kind of fate. Let's toast to our encounter."
Luo Chen, somewhat dreamily, raised his glass and clinked it lightly with the man's, then drank it in one go. The liquid slid down his throat, bringing a slight burning sensation, as if igniting some hidden secrets deep within him.
