Ch. 29
Chapter 29: Thunder Bombing, a New Tactic!
Three things appeared, and every member of Ascension Group breathed heavily.
This stuff… was simply a miracle pill tailor-made for fighting!
With these, they finally felt confident against that bunch from Thunder Hall.
“Now, listen to my deployment of a new tactic.”
Chu Feng’s voice was low, but it carried a chill.
“This match, we will not play ‘defend and counterattack’.”
“We will play ‘special assault’!”
“After we go onstage, everyone immediately took the ‘Diamond Power Pill’! Then, don’t care about any damn large-unit formations — three people made one ‘combat unit’, scatter and charge in!”
“Our target was not defense, but charge! Get up close and messy! Fight TMD in close quarters! Throw the scene into chaos so their flashy thunder techniques had nowhere to work!”
“Understood?”
“Understood!”
Twenty team members roared in low voices, every tone full of a don’t-care, all-in ferocity.
“Good! Go onstage!”
At the host elder’s call, Ascension Group and Thunder Hall both walked onto the ring.
All eyes in the arena fixed on this duel.
Everyone wanted to see whether Ascension Group’s strange “Iron Tortoise Formation” could withstand Thunder Hall’s mad thunder magic bombardment.
“Clang!”
The opening bell rang.
“Lightning Array! Activate!”
Lei Qianjun roared without hesitation.
Nineteen of his teammates shifted position in an instant, and a formation formed in a blink.
Purple lightning rocketed up, rolling into a terrifying thundercloud over their heads!
Dazzling electric serpents ran wild in the cloud with “zzzt zzzt” crackles — just hearing it made people’s scalps tingle.
In the next second, a downpour of thunderlight would crash down, turning the entire ring into a thunderous hell.
The thunderclouds churned; the heavy pressure quieted the entire training ground.
“Holy—! It’s the Lightning Array!”
Some inner sect disciples in the stands shouted until their throats were raw.
“Thunder Hall’s signature combined attack array! Once it went off it cleansed the ground, no blind spots, brutally devastating!”
“Ascension Group was done for! How could that turtle shell stop this bombardment?”
“Lei Qianjun was too decisive, he didn’t give them a chance!”
In everyone’s eyes, the fight was about to end.
The Ascension Group’s chores boys would be turned to charcoal in the lightning in the next moment.
Li Aotian stood in the crowd with a cruel, delighted smile.
Right! This was how it should be!
This was how an inner sect elite should be — crushing everything with overwhelming force and grinding those crooked paths into dust!
But at the very moment when the overwhelming thunderlight was about to fall, Ascension Group’s members moved!
“Execute Plan B!”
“‘Market Diversification’ assault!”
Zhang Daniu bellowed the command Chu Feng had taught him.
Immediately, the twenty members performed an action that made every jaw in the arena drop.
They did not curl into a ball this time like before and form that water-impervious “turtle-shell formation.”
Instead, in the split of a flash of lightning, they “whooshed” and all scattered!
“What… what were they doing?”
“Crazy? Not forming a formation to withstand thunder magic?”
“Looking for death! Pure suicide!”
Amid the crowd’s exclamations, those twenty scattered members simultaneously pulled out a golden pill from their sleeves and, without blinking, shoved it into their mouths.
Chu Feng had given them the “Diamond Power Pill”!
Once the pill went down, a hot current blasted through their bodies with a “boom.” A faint golden halo rose on each of the twenty members’ skin!
“Hit them!”
Lei Qianjun in midair didn’t care about whatever trick they were playing; he swung his arm down hard!
“Boom—”
The thundercloud erupted!
Dozens of purple lightning bolts the thickness of water buckets descended from the sky with earth-shattering momentum, densely covering the entire ring!
The whole ring was instantly submerged in a blinding sheet of thunderlight!
“Ah—”
Screams rang out.
But they were not the wails everyone had imagined.
When the thunderlight cleared, the ring was scorched black, full of smoking, deep pits.
Ascension Group’s twenty members stood there with their clothes torn to rags, blue smoke rising from their bodies — as miserable as could be.
Several were knocked flat, blood at the corners of their mouths, grievously injured.
But not a single one was blasted off the ring!
Not a single one collapsed on the spot!
They had, astonishingly, taken that round of lightning cleansing with their flesh!
“This… what the hell is going on!”
Everyone stood up with a collective gasp, eyes wide and jaws nearly unhinged.
“How could their bodies be so tough? That was the Lightning Array!”
Li Aotian’s smile froze once again, like he had donned a false mask.
Lei Qianjun and his Thunder Hall teammates’ pupils contracted violently, and for the first time their faces showed utter disbelief.
“Their bodies were abnormal! Don’t stop! Keep bombing! Wear them out!”
Lei Qianjun, being the elite he was, immediately shouted the second order.
But would Ascension Group give them that chance?
“Now!”
“Three-person combat units! Charge!”
Zhang Daniu, who had endured the first wave, wiped the blood from his mouth and roared a counterattack!
The previously scattered members instantly grouped into threes, forming six strange “品”-shaped squads, and launched a desperate charge toward Thunder Hall, which was preparing a second wave.
Their tactic was exactly what Chu Feng had said.
No defense!
Just charge!
Drag the battlefield away from spell duels into what they excelled at… close combat!
“Stop them!”
Lei Qianjun’s face darkened.
The remaining Thunder Hall disciples formed hand seals and chanted; chains of lightning and thunderlight spheres slammed at the six charging squads.
But at that moment, Ascension Group’s new tactic finally showed its fangs.
Those six three-man squads ran with extremely tricky positioning, never moving in straight lines.
They sometimes crossed, sometimes advanced side by side, using chaotic yet subtly patterned footwork to weave through the dense thunderlight.
Two ran in front, one in back.
The two at the front each held a small kite-shaped shield to block and obscure vision. Their job was not to take hits head-on, but to create opportunities for the teammate behind them at minimal cost.
The person in the rear was the real killer!
They had changed their weapons.
No longer were they wielding clumsy wolf-tooth clubs; they held long poles topped with a huge iron hook — long pole hooks!
Chu Feng had “learned” this item from the mundane army’s arsenal; they were specialist “formation-busting tools” used to hook horse legs and pull down cavalry!
“Zzzzt!”
