Cucking The Hero As The Final Boss!

Chapter 149: Budding Jealousy

As the night arrived, the group had fallen quiet. Lying over their damp beddings, they stared into the flame and were reminded of the burning capital that they'd left behind. It wouldn't be long before the new queen takes the crown and everything returns to as it was, and yet the chaos that had spun about for what should've been but a passing moment had left a mark seared deep within everyone's mind.

Had the sages been as weak as the nobles, the barons, and the dukes and their duchies, the people wouldn't have shied from toppling the tower, but one foot inside, and Toma would've incinerated their bodies with no remorse behind its eyes. Kept at bay by that threat, the tower stood tall still, and its memory remained as tall in the minds of the hero's party.

But one amongst them was especially wounded by this trip. Sitting alone in a corner after shrugging off Rudy when he'd tried to get too close to comfort her, Roxanne walloped in her own bitter memories of her family. She wanted to see her long-lost home, or at least pass by it with her head hung low. Maybe it was the hint of tulip from those familiar gardens that she longed for, or was it the warmth of her mother's hug, she couldn't tell.

'Does that make me the last in my household to be alive?' Staring at her open hand, she leaned her back against the dripping walls. Her fingers twitched under the burden of her name, and although it had escaped her as to who she was, one thing became clear, and it came up to her as a question. 'Do I even want to pass on this foul blood?'

A family that abandons its young like a piece of outdated jewelry, did she really want that blood to course through more veins? What if she comes to hate her children for sharing her family's inadequacies? What if she herself grows into a bitter person not worthy to have children? Such questions plagued her every waking moment, so much so that even as Zephyr sat beside her, she didn't notice his presence for nearly half an hour. And when she finally did, he looked into her eyes and whispered.

"I'm sorry about what happened…" And that was all, he was just about to get up and leave her to her thoughts. But unlike Rudy, whom she knew was only trying to get close to her, Roxanne felt the need to reach out and keep him sitting beside her. "Do you need something?"

Tilting his head, Zephyr allowed himself to be seated by the girl's trembling fingers. With a gulp, Roxanne heaved a sigh, and as hesitant as she was, she knew that Custer was sleeping around with many women; her head still found his shoulder. Leaning herself against his body, she tangled her fingers with his. Soaking in the warmth of the fiend, she closed her eyes and nuzzled her head against his shoulder ever so lightly.

"H-hey…" Her voice trembled as she spoke, and Custer could feel it reverberating in his chest. She was hurt so deeply that another blow like the one Aura had planned would've pushed her over the edge from which she could've never returned the same. "Can I… Ask you something?"

Humming in agreement, Zephyr moved a strand of hair to the back of her head. Clearing it from near her eye, he looked into her eyes and awaited whatever it was that she wanted help with. To his surprise, however, it wasn't a question to help her get better but rather an inquiry about his life.

"You must travel a lot, right?" Looking up at him through teary eyes, Roxanne took a deep breath and finished her question. "You must've lost someone, surely? Maybe not here on the road, but back home? Does it bother you? Does it get better even if you don't really get along with them?"

Her question struck a chord in the fiend's heart. There were plenty of backstabbers in his life before the awakening. So much so that he still carried the scars from those betrayals on his skin, although for the most part, they were hidden with magic or his skin had darkened enough in his fiendish form to hide them altogether.

"Yes, it gets better. But," taking a pause, he looked into her eyes again. "Some assholes deserve to be forgotten, or their ghosts haunt you forever. Weighing your shoulders like a backpack, but who knows where they really are, the hell or the heavens? Doesn't make any sense to carry them, you gotta let that load off and move on."

"I… see," a brief smile flashed across Roxanne's face, but it didn't last long as the sound of someone shifting over the bedding forced her to pull her head away.

Sitting up straight, she noticed Rudy's squinted eyes judging her with a twisted look. Shifting between her and Custer, he seemed visibly upset as just a moment ago he'd been shooed away by the healer while the merchant's shoulder was being used as a pillow.

"Is something wrong?" He asked, forcing an awkward smile on his face.

Turning away from his gaze, Roxanne scratched the back of her head and waved her right hand before her chest.

"Nothing, we were just… keeping watch, that's it. Right, Custer?" Slowly looking back at Custer, she gulped in hopes that he would play along.

Giving a subtle nod in return, the merchant did as she'd hoped and explained.

"Everyone was asleep, so we thought we might keep each other company. Make sure neither of us falls asleep while on guard duty."

Though far from convinced, there was little Rudy could do but join the two in their watch to prevent anything from happening. Slipping between the duo, he separated them first, and then, once he'd gotten comfortable, the hero tried to pry into their conversation again. However, neither Custer nor Roxanne gave him an inch. Both kept their lips sealed, and that frustrated the hero more, for he had no idea if there was something already going on between the two like the fiend and his mother.

After a while, however, the duo left the watch in Rudy's hand and slipped into their bedding–enraging him even more, for now he felt as though the two were avoiding him intentionally. Either way, with him taking the duty himself, he had to watch over everyone until the morning came. What happens next on the journey or after they return to their village, the hero wasn't in the least optimistic about, as already he'd seen signs of losing more and more of his harem.

'I… I have to expose him quickly.' The sheer thought of Custer fucking not just his mother and aunt, but also his crush was killing him from the inside, but the more days seemed to pass, the closer he was getting to that reality coming into fruition. How long before they abandon him for the merchant and his cock? Even in his mind, it wasn't far at all.
