Crossover: I Took In a Runaway High School Girl

Chapter 116: Confrontation with the Ogiwara Family

Sayu Ogiwara's mother ran into the house crying, leaving the three of them staring at each other in awkward silence by the doorway. A cold wind blew, as if sensing the tension that enveloped them.

Issa Ogiwara glared fiercely at Renji Kamisaka, his eyes blazing. "How could you hit someone?! And what's with this guardian transfer letter?!"

Renji Kamisaka scoffed coldly, his expression unperturbed. "I thought you, as her brother, were kind to Sayu, but I didn't expect this." He glanced into the house, towards where Mrs. Ogiwara had disappeared. "Since your mother doesn't care about Sayu, why don't you let Sayu go to Kyoto with me to study?" He looked back at Issa, his voice steady. "I came here this time to handle this matter."

Sayu Ogiwara also clutched Renji Kamisaka's arm, gripping it tightly, and stood by him, showing her unwavering support.

Issa Ogiwara was speechless. His mother's performance was truly appalling. He didn't know how to say anything good. This family, in the end, felt broken.

"But it was wrong for you to hit someone. My mother always sticks to her words. If you hit her, she'll never agree to sign," Issa said, trying to keep his voice calm. "And Sayu is her daughter, my sister, after all. How can you just transfer guardianship rights?"

"If she doesn't agree, I'll... find a way to convince her!" Renji Kamisaka said stubbornly, the look in his eyes showing determination. "You can't just get out of my way and let me do it!" He was very confident. Renji hitting Sayu's mother just now was primarily to make the woman calm down and listen to him. He himself didn't want to do it. But the woman hit his girl, and he couldn't help it.

Issa Ogiwara fell silent, weighing Renji's words. What Renji Kamisaka said was indeed true. From the perspective of helping his sister Sayu, he was essentially useless.

"But my mother just got hurt. How about we talk about it tomorrow?" Issa tried to negotiate.

"We have to go back to school tomorrow. Where can we find time? Now is the best time. Anyway, let's sit down and talk face-to-face," Renji replied uncompromisingly.

Issa Ogiwara finally compromised, sighing in resignation.

After a moment.

The four of them sat on chairs, the atmosphere in the living room feeling incredibly stiff, almost suffocating. Mrs. Ogiwara glared at Renji Kamisaka with sharp eyes from time to time, a hateful gaze directed at the man who had hit her. Renji Kamisaka, seemingly uncaring, casually held out his palm and blew on it, as if there was dust stuck to it.

Mrs. Ogiwara immediately recoiled, a fleeting fear in her eyes, then she turned to glare at Issa Ogiwara. Are you still my son? A man's bullying your mother! You should fight back! However, Issa Ogiwara was like a block of wood, unmoving, too shocked and perhaps, too afraid of Renji.

Mrs. Ogiwara had no choice but to direct the spearhead of her anger towards Sayu. "Why did you run away from home?!" her voice piercing. "Do you know how much trouble you've brought us?"

Sayu Ogiwara clenched her fists, her eyes moist, holding back urgent tears. "Mother, do you still remember what I said on the day I ran away from home?"

"Who would remember such a thing? I've forgotten it long ago," the woman pouted indifferently, her expression cold.

Sayu Ogiwara sneered, deep disappointment radiating from her eyes. "I ran away from home because I hated this family!" Her voice rose, filled with suppressed anger. "I wanted to run away from my mother!" Tears began to stream down her cheeks. "Run away from the mother who asked if I killed my best friend!"

Mrs. Ogiwara was even more enraged, her face flushing. "Just because of this? You could have told me if you were sad!" She pointed at Sayu. "From childhood to adulthood, you've held everything in your heart. Have you ever told me? If you don't tell me, who will know?"

"Would you have listened if I told you?!" Sayu screamed, tears soaking her face. "People who can't even remember my words have no intention of understanding me or caring about me at all! Are you really my mother?!"

Mrs. Ogiwara was embarrassed after being talked back to, and she said coldly, "Anyway, I just don't like you! Besides, do you know what I've been through because of you? I shouldn't have chosen to give birth to you in the first place!"

Sayu Ogiwara slammed the table, the loud sound making Issa jump. "Then sign the guardian transfer for me!" She looked at her mother with a wounded gaze. "Anyway, you don't care about me, why are you keeping me and torturing me?" Her voice broke, filled with despair. "I've tried my best to disappear from your sight like my mother said! What else do you want me to do?!" After saying that, the girl couldn't stop crying and was so sad that she couldn't speak.

Mrs. Ogiwara was stunned. She trembled and clenched her fists unconsciously, her lips quivering.

"Why? I raised you for so many years, and now you want to leave! You are still my daughter!" Mrs. Ogiwara pointed at Sayu, her eyes beginning to water. "You are my child!"

The scene became strange, mixed emotions hanging in the air. Renji Kamisaka was even more embarrassed. He felt that Sayu Ogiwara's mother still cared about Sayu, but she herself was used to ignoring Sayu's feelings and coldly abusing her. She blamed her divorce and her failed marriage on her daughter Sayu as a way to vent. However, when she was truly about to lose her daughter, she couldn't bear to let her go. She was truly sick. That was probably the result of being abandoned by her husband.

Seeing Sayu with tears in her eyes, Renji Kamisaka took out the transfer letter again, placing it on the table.

"Madam, please take a closer look," he said, his voice calm but authoritative. "As long as you sign this contract, Ogiwara Foods can open in Kyoto through the Yukinoshita Family." He glanced at Issa. "I think Mr. Issa Ogiwara should understand the value of this wealth."

Mrs. Ogiwara was stunned, her eyes widening as she read the contents of the letter. "Issa, is this true?"

Issa Ogiwara looked at it carefully and nodded enthusiastically, his face beaming. "It's true."

Mrs. Ogiwara's eyes changed when she looked at Renji Kamisaka. Although she still resented him for the slap, somehow she wasn't as angry. Because of her prejudice against Sayu and the troubles caused by her daughter running away from home, she had regarded Renji Kamisaka as someone who also caused trouble, so her face was naturally not good. But when her daughter's boyfriend was the son of a chaebol and could make her family live better, her impression naturally changed.

Mrs. Ogiwara took a deep breath, her expression returning to coldness. "I will not sign the transfer agreement."

Everything was back to square one. Sayu Ogiwara clenched her fists, her teeth grinding, and said nothing. She still didn't know how to get along with this mother.

Renji Kamisaka sighed. "Mrs. Ogiwara, you said you regretted giving birth to Sayu, but have you ever thought that Sayu also regrets being born into your family?" His voice softened, piercing the heart. "Parents cannot choose their children, and children cannot choose the parents they are born to."

He continued, his tone admonishing. "You only have Sayu as your daughter, and likewise... she only has you as her mother." Renji looked into Mrs. Ogiwara's eyes, trying to convey understanding. "You said she never told you anything and kept everything to herself, but have you ever thought about it from her perspective? Was it your attitude towards her that caused Sayu not to dare to tell you the truth?"

"Sayu just came back, and you didn't care about her. You just slapped her to express your anger at her for causing you trouble." Renji shook his head. "Sayu wants to leave and never trouble you again, but you don't want to. Even... you still can't bear to abandon Sayu."

"Nonsense! I don't care about her!" Mrs. Ogiwara shouted, denying vehemently.

"Then sign the guardian transfer agreement!"

"I won't sign!" Mrs. Ogiwara argued with him, refusing to let Sayu go.

Renji Kamisaka firmly grabbed Sayu's hand and was about to leave. "If you don't want to sign, then don't sign. Let's just leave."

"Stop! You're committing a crime. As an outsider, what qualifications do you have to care about our family affairs? And you just hit me!" The woman yelled again, her steps halting them.

Renji Kamisaka raised his hand, an implicit threat. "Do you believe that I will hit you again now?"

The woman immediately retreated two steps, covering her still-red cheek, and looked at him with shame and anger.

Renji Kamisaka's mouth curved into a cynical smile. "Your disagreement won't affect me taking Sayu away. My power is greater than you think. It's not difficult to give Sayu a new identity." He looked at Sayu, then shifted his gaze to Sayu's mother. "In the final analysis, Sayu didn't have to come back. It's because she still has hope for you, Madam, that she wanted to try to get along with you in a friendly way."

"Stop, don't say it!" Sayu Ogiwara's mother covered her cheeks and cried out in a wail, falling onto the chair.

"Mother..." Issa Ogiwara was extremely worried, kneeling beside his mother. His mother's mood had been unstable ever since she was abandoned by their father. He was afraid his mother would break down.

However, Renji Kamisaka's slap was clearly very effective. Mrs. Ogiwara wiped her tears and sobbed, her voice soft and despairing.

"There's one thing I must admit, you're right." She lifted her tear-filled gaze towards Sayu. "Anyway, Sayu only has me as a mother. I have indeed always ignored her and even thought she was the main reason for my marriage failure." When she was pregnant, her husband cheated on her with another woman, and she was abandoned like this. So she blamed Sayu. She had been indifferent to her since she was a child, and even scolded her from time to time, and was very strict with her.

"I will try to understand Sayu, I hope it's not too late." Sayu's mother's voice was barely audible, a difficult confession.

"Mother..." Sayu's eyes were filled with tears, she didn't know what to say, her heart torn between pain and a glimmer of hope.

Mrs. Ogiwara stood, glaring fiercely at Renji Kamisaka—the resentment still there, but now mixed with respect, or perhaps, fear. "I will take care of her until she graduates from college. After that, she can do whatever she wants," she said solemnly.

Renji Kamisaka's mouth twitched. You are a hindsighter. Delayed affection, how cheap. However, he still respected Sayu's opinion. In the end, the result was that Mrs. Ogiwara agreed to her daughter's transfer to Kyoto, and she would try to understand her daughter. But she would never sign the transfer agreement. If she signed, her daughter would belong to someone else.

Renji Kamisaka wasn't afraid of mischief. If she bullied Sayu again, he wouldn't be polite. Perhaps it was an illusion, but Mrs. Ogiwara seemed to blush after being slapped by him. Well, anyway, it was right to wake her up.

Sayu also apologized to her mother, sincerely apologizing for causing trouble. It could be considered a bitter, yet relieving, resolution. Even Issa Ogiwara was a little disbelieving. That stubborn mother actually gave in because of Renji Kamisaka's slap. But he couldn't do anything if she didn't give in. With Renji Kamisaka's power, he could directly take Sayu away and ignore her as a mother.

People always regret after losing something. That's why Renji Kamisaka didn't take Sayu away by force. Only by cherishing the people in front of you can you not be ashamed of your time.
