Chapter 55: Zara's Doubt
They slept peacefully in each other's arms. Kate lay curled above Victor and her hands tightly wrapped around his arms.
Victor's eyes fluttered a little, then opened wide. He observed around himself and remembered what had happened. His eyes drifted to Kate, who was sleeping quietly above his chest. A smile tugged on his lips as he observed her innocent face. She looked cute in those pajamas. He felt an urge to pull her cheeks, but he stopped himself.
'What time is it?' He thought. But before he could further go on that thought, a system's ring in his ears interrupted him.
Ding!
[5:55 am]
[Daily Task will commence in five minutes]
"What?" He screamed.
"Umm, let me sleep a little more," Kate mumbled with closed eyes.
"Kate, wake up!" Victor shouted in her ear.
"Yes, I'm awake." Kate jerked upright and looked around with wide eyes.
Victor stood up and walked to the wall. He inserted his finger into the wall, and a click sound echoed, followed by a rumble and shuffling sound. Kate's jaw dropped as the door appeared out of nowhere in a plain wall.
Victor glanced at her, stepped forward, "Let's go."
Kate came out of her daze and hurriedly followed. As they stepped out into a familiar corridor, they both looked back, but the door had vanished.
"What happened? Why did you wake me up?" Kate muttered with a scowl.
"We are late for the training," Victor replied with a smirk.
Kate's eyes widened, and she froze. After a few seconds, she took out her sports bra and tight gym shorts from her inventory. Victor just stared at her with an amused smile.
"Look out for me, I'm changing. If anyone comes, let me know. And don't peak!" Kate instructed and took off her shirt. Victor's eyes widened, and he froze as his eyes fell on her breasts. They jiggled under the dim light of torches. Kate wore the sports bra first, and then she took off the pants.
Victor flinched back as his eyes fell on her smooth ass; his hand moved on its own. She straightened up, bringing her black shorts up. She flinched; she felt a hand cupping her ass cheek. She glared at Victor. He came out of his daze and yanked his hand back.
"Huff, Pervert!" She huffed and turned away from him.
Victor smiled awkwardly and whispered, "Ahh, Sorry. My hand moved on its own."
Kate didn't turn back; she wiggled her hip with a smirk and stepped ahead hurriedly.
"We are getting late." She shouted back as she bolted through the corridor.
Victor followed with an awkward smile. 'Why did I do that? But that soft feeling felt heavenly. No, No.' shaking his head, he kept following her, but his eyes were glued on her butt most of the time. He shook his head and sped up. He easily reached alongside her. And kept the same pace. His speed, agility, and even reflexes have improved. So, he was easily able to run beside her.
Kate stole glances at him and smiled. 'Oh, I never thought you were so into my butt. I could use this knowledge to tease you further.'
In the training ground, all the Cadets were already gathered. All of them had a tired look on their face, and most of them were sitting on the ground. Derek examined everyone one by one. But he wasn't able to notice even one who had adapted to the weights. His eyes drifted toward Feena, who was looking around the crowd, searching for someone. He smiled and muttered, "I expect nothing less from a warrior princess."
Zara sat beside Vladiyus, who was lazily yawning. Her eyes darted around the crowd. 'Where is Kate? She vanished from the room without telling me.' She turned and looked at the Black faction. Besides Luke, there were only two dwarves, and Victor wasn't present. 'Again! They vanished together.'
She glanced towards the Golden faction and noticed Feena was present. 'Only those two were absent.' Her vision turned hazy, she shook her head, and wiped the tears away. She whispered to herself, "That's not possible, they hate each other."
But the doubt crept into her heart like a worm. Her close friend and Victor, she couldn't imagine it. She denied her thoughts and waited expectantly. 'I know him better than anyone. He is not like this.' She tried to convince herself.
"Oh, Princess, you're late." Derek's thunder-like voice pulled everyone out of their sleep, and everyone turned to the pair who had just stepped onto the ground. Victor moved away from her, to a black faction, and Kate stood beside Zara.
Zara's widened eyes narrowed at Kate, and a small flame of doubt turned bigger. She checked Kate from head to toe. Her disheveled hair, unaligned shorts, and her face appeared as if she had just woken up from sleep. She turned and glanced at Victor, who had the same sleepy face. And his roommate was asking him about something. She could guess what he was asking. 'Where were you?'
Her heart raced, her eyes turned glossy. She stood up, clenching her jaw.
"BEGIN!" Derek shouted, and everyone started running.
Zara grabbed Kate's hand and whispered, "We need to talk."
Kate's eyes widened, and she froze. Her heart raced with fear. Zara ran forward with all the energy she could muster and muttered, "Follow me."
Kate followed, her mind blank, and she couldn't think of anything. She knew that Zara had already guessed. Zara stopped in a deserted forest, a little further from the main race route.
She turned to Kate, who was nervously looking at her. Zara exhaled and asked, "Did you already sleep together?"
Kate stumbled back at such a direct question. She didn't imagine Zara, a quiet and shy girl, to be so bold.
"Did you?" Zara growled, with tear-filled eyes.
Kate bit her lower lip; her mind raced. 'What should I do? I can't tell her the truth? But she already guessed it. I can't tell her about me being a Vampire. Or about Victor. Even if I want to, I couldn't because of the system oath.'
"If you ever considered me your true friend, tell me the truth." Zara pleaded.
Kate's eyes turned red, and tears rolled down her cheeks.
