Chapter 4: The Reward
"Welcome to dungeon number 44….", the winged figure had blurted out after killing about 10 people in an instant. The voice which had emanated was that of female. It sounded a little soft and soothing but all those below her knew they couldn't trust her. Not after what she has done to those innocent people.
'Are all angels like this?', Harry asked himself this question after carefully observing the creature. This was his first time seeing one since his parents weren't all that religious. Afterwards he had lost his interest in the winged creature and was seen staring at the crystals again.
Mina on the other hand had already forgotten what she had wanted to tell the grumpy man. Her gaze was now fixated on the winged figure. She felt that taking her gaze off that creature could cause her to lose something precious: her life. This was something she would never want to happen to him.
Turning and looking at her back though, she could see the dumb boy in his class. Her demeanor changed when she saw him staring sheepishly into the skies. She wanted to speak to him but this wasn't the time for aimless yapping.
Mmmmm
The sudden moan had escaped Harry's lips when he had tried his best to stretch. He had been standing at that particular place for a long time. His muscles were starting to ache a little.
'What is this feeling? It's like all my wounds are healing up.' Harry's face glowed with joy when this realization had struck him right in the head. All the bruises and cuts he had received from his brother were slowly healing up. Was this some sort of effect of the crystals? His new motive was to gain one of the crystals at all cost.
"Please may I ask a question?", a young girl of Harry's age raised up her hand to ask a question. Her heart thumped uncontrollably in her chest. Doubts were running up and down in her head and she had to clear them. Was it even worth her life in the first place.
The angel smiled and clapped her hands together a couple of times signaling that she was indeed happy with what the girl was doing. "You are indeed a strong one, girl. For this simple act of bravery, I will willingly answer your question. So speak up before I change my mind…..And oh, I can hear your heartbeat and it's pretty loud. Can you turn it down for me or I will have to silence it myself."
Hahahaha!
Her laugh echoed throughout the whole place, sending shivers down the spines of those inside the cave.
The brave girl swallowed up saliva and calmed her nerves and breathing by closing her eyes for some seconds. "Thank you for accepting my request. My question is for you to explain the dungeon system to us and why we have been called to this place…. Thank you once again for accepting my request."
The angel was not surprised by the girl's request. Her smile only got much more wider behind her wings. She was going to clear all the doubts these people had in their heads. It was her task to tell them anyway. She could use this opportunity to flex her superiority.
"Wonderful question, I will give you a reward for your efforts. I really like people who think a lot but curiosity kills the cat though. I bet you are not going to be that cat…." Her sacarsm was at its peak at the moment.
"The dungeon system as we all know is not from your world. This is a way the gods have decided to prepare earth for what is about to come. These dungeons are to strengthen you guys and give you the power you will need to protect your planet when the time comes. Earth is not the only planet experiencing this kind of mishap but the gods have taken a liking to you guys.
From now onwards these dungeons are going to appear haphazardly all over the globe. They must be cleared before the third day after they have appeared because the monsters with in them will descend upon this world. Though those who have been selected by the gods can withstand most of the attacks of these monsters, the opposite can be said for those who are not present here.
Therefore it will now become your duty to take care all those who aren't present here. That goes to say that you are now the protectors of this planet.
The reason you were called to come here today without the appearance of dungeons in your world is because of a test which has to be conducted in order to gauge your strength as a whole. The gods decided to select each one of you guys based on their own criteria. You can't blame me if a 10 year old human is here. I'm only a messenger and I dare not go against their orders. Theirs words are supreme and no one in this world of yours can stop them. Don't think that I'm bragging or spouting out nonsense but if you can't even defeat me then how will you be able to defeat those Behemoths.
The test is going to be a tough one, it is going to be something you have never experienced before. It is going to be a massacre. No, a bloodbath I suppose. Ready yourselves for inevitable deaths along the way, it is not all of you who are going to return back to earth anyway.*giggles *. You can all return back in one piece if and only if you have the luck and strength to do so.
This is all the information I can give you about what is happening at the moment. I hope it would be of importance to you. The test will begin in a matter of minutes so hold tight. I hope you all return back in one piece. This is my way of wishing you luck. Maybe an angel's luck will help see you through.", she had ended her words with her eyes fixated on the girl who had asked the question.
"I had promised you something, a reward I suppose. I will go by my words. Open your arms and accept my reward."
She girl's eyes glowed with joy when the angel had remembered what she had told her. She had already made her mind not to ask the angel about the reward if she had forgotten. She thanked her lucky stars for fighting for her this time.
A bright light had appeared once again and when it had left a card stood hovering above in its place. The card had the image of some boots of an armor set on it. All those around her had wanted to laugh but they feared the wrath of the angel.
The card descended majestically and stopped when it had reached where the girl was. It then burst out into several particles and disappeared into nothing.
The temperature around the girl began to intensify abnormally. She couldn't feel the temperature change but those around her could tell a different story since they were sweating buckets.
Looking at her feet, she had noticed that the ground where she stood was slowly turning into molten lava. She had almost screamed at the sight of this. The boots on closer inspection was made out of rocks with had a few sparks of flames embedded in them. It went all the way to her knees. Above the knees though were the fur of a lion carefully and gently attached to the knee guards of the boots.
The girl smiled in content while admiring her reward. "Thank you!", she exclaimed politely while slightly bowing down.
Those around her who had wanted to laugh at her at the beginning were now regretting that idea of theirs. They now looked at her with expressions of admiration on their faces.
Their terrors didn't end there as the rocks beneath the boots began to shake violently causing all of them to fall on their knees. The girl stared around with a saddened face since all those around her were suffering from the power of an item she possessed.
'Wow, I think I like her', Harry had proclaimed while staring at the girl.
