CRIMSON DEVOTION

Chapter 13: DINNER WITH THE DEVIL

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the neighborhood, Michael pulled into his driveway after a long day at work. He was looking forward to a quiet evening at home. But as he approached his front door, he noticed something unusual—a warm glow coming from inside the house.

Unlocking the door, Michael was greeted by the tantalizing aroma of a home-cooked meal. His eyes widened in surprise as he stepped into the dining room. A beautifully set table awaited him, complete with candles flickering softly and an array of dishes that looked both enticing and elaborate.

Sitting at the head of the table, with a devilish smile on her face, was Morgan. She was casually dressed in a chic outfit, clearly expecting someone.

Michael's heart raced as he took in the scene. "Who are you, and what are you doing in my house?, I'm calling the police" he demanded, his voice laced with both anger and confusion.

Morgan's smile widened, a glint of amusement dancing in her eyes. "Relax, Michael. They won't come. I've kept them busy," she said, her tone light yet ominous.

Michael's confusion deepened. "What are you talking about? Who are you, and why are you here?"

Morgan feigned a pout, her expression sweet and innocent. "Aww, Emily didn't tell you?" she asked, a hint of mockery in her voice.

Michael's confusion turned to concern. "Emily? What's going on here?"

Morgan's smile turned sly as she gestured to the table. "Sit down. Dinner's ready."

Michael hesitated for a moment, then, sensing the danger in Morgan's demeanor, took a seat at the table, his mind racing with possibilities. He watched as Morgan picked up her fork and began to eat.

"Eat," she commanded, her eyes locked onto his with an unsettling intensity. "I promise it's not poisoned."

Michael swallowed hard, trying to gauge the sincerity of her words. He reached for his fork, his hands trembling slightly as he took a bite. The food was surprisingly delicious, but his unease didn't abate.

"What is this about?" Michael asked between bites, trying to keep his voice steady.

Morgan's eyes glinted with satisfaction as she watched him. "Just a little welcome dinner. I thought we should get to know each other better."

Michael's mind raced as he tried to piece together the fragments of this strange encounter. The mysterious nature of Morgan's presence and her cryptic messages only heightened his anxiety. The unsettling feeling in his gut told him that this was just the beginning of a far more complex and dangerous situation.

As the evening wore on, the unsettling atmosphere lingered, leaving Michael to wonder what other surprises Morgan had in store.

Michael tried to focus on his meal, every bite feeling like an eternity. Morgan's intense gaze made him acutely aware of every movement he made, and the unsettling silence only heightened his anxiety. Each forkful felt like it took forever to chew and swallow as he desperately tried to comply with her demand.

When he finally finished, he placed his fork down and wiped his mouth with a napkin, feeling a mix of relief and apprehension. Morgan watched him with an inscrutable expression, her eyes never leaving his face.

As she got up from her seat, Morgan's demeanor shifted to a casual, almost cheerful tone. "It was nice meeting you, Michael," she said, her smile both friendly and menacing. "Tell Emily Morgan said hi."

The cryptic message left Michael even more puzzled. "Wait, what do you mean?" he asked, trying to make sense of her words.

Morgan didn't answer. Instead, she walked toward the door with a graceful stride, pausing briefly to cast one last glance over her shoulder. "I'm sure she'll understand," she said softly, her voice carrying an eerie calmness.

Michael watched as Morgan left, the door closing behind her with a soft click. The house felt eerily quiet once she was gone, the tension lingering in the air. He was left alone with his thoughts, trying to unravel the enigma of her visit and the unsettling message she had left.
