Chapter 215: Desperate Fight!
The moment the final wall cracked with a deafening groan and crumbled into the swirling dimensional storm beyond, everything changed.
The sky turned into a writhing mess of broken colors with deep purples smeared against impossible greens and streaks of angry orange lightning.
The wind screamed like a thousand banshees, carrying shards of floating debris and the distant, echoing roars of things too monstrous to be given names.
Standing at the edge of this violent madness, Creed's heartbeat thundered like a war drum in his ears.
The ground beneath their feet vibrated with unstable dimensional energy. Across the broken terrain, towering like a god of ruin, was the Beast King.
It hadn't moved after it destroyed the barricade, not even once, but its very presence cracked the laws of the world.
Every breath it took rippled through the air like a shockwave, bending space and making the storm swirl around it like the eye of a cosmic hurricane.
Behind it, its horrors emerged. The agents of the Beast King.
Dozens of them.
Some slithered across the air, bodyless, made only of teeth and hunger. Others stalked on warped limbs like corrupted wolves made from shadows.
A few shimmered and split space just by stepping, leaking golden light and violet flames.
Their energy distorted the planet itself, warping gravity, air, and even time into something sharp enough to bleed.
Creed tightened his grip around his spear, the Pale Horizon, and activated his Paths the absolute limit.
Rumble!
Path of Killing. Path of the Mountain. Path of Freedom.
The moment they snapped into place, his body reacted like it had been plugged into a thunderstorm.
Bang!
He launched forward into the battlefield, faster than any regular eye could track. It was time for war!
Meredith took a graceful step backward, her petite frame trembling as she pressed her hand against the ground, etching a darker, more mysterious hex on the ground.
The next instant, light swirled around her form and she vanished into the tattoo on Creed's chest, seeking safety within its protective confines.
She was simply too weak in a battle of this magnitude. She would he sniffed out in seconds if she interfered.
The battle erupted in chaos.
Rumble!
Lilith's lightning spear crackled with violent energy as she thrust it forward, sending a bolt of purple electricity toward the nearest creature.
The lizard-beast twisted mid-air, its crystalline hide deflecting the lightning harmlessly into the ground.
It landed with predatory grace and immediately lunged at her with claws that left tears in space itself!
She barely managed to conjure her scythe in time, the elegant weapon materializing from pure storm energy.
The creature's claws scraped against the lightning-forged blade, sending sparks cascading around them both.
Lilith gritted her teeth, her sigils glowing brighter as she poured more power into the weapon, but the beast was relentless. It pressed forward, forcing her back step by step.
Meanwhile, Tierra had already begun her assault from the void of space itself. She materialized behind a horned centipede monster, twin silver daggers gleaming as she struck.
Swish! Swish!
But the creature sensed her approach and spun with impossible speed, its barbed tail whipping through the air. Tierra vanished back into space just as the tail swept through where her head had been.
She reappeared above it, attempting to fold space around the beast's head, but her power met unexpected resistance.
The creature's hide pulsed with dimensional energy that fought against her spatial manipulation.
Instead of being crushed into nothingness, it merely staggered, then roared in fury.
Roar!
Creed found himself surrounded by three wolf-like horrors, their bodies wreathed in shadow and flame.
He activated Line of Death, sending a streak of dark red energy toward the first. The creature leaped aside with inhuman agility, the deadly line missing its vital areas by mere inches.
Creed was shocked. Although the line of death couldn't be dodged, it could be countered using a method such as the one the wolf just displayed!
His strongest move had been nerfed instantly!
Bang!
The second wolf pounced while he was recovering, its jaws snapping shut just where his throat had been a heartbeat before.
His Wings of Freedom carried him upward, but the third wolf was already there, having somehow anticipated his movement.
Razor-sharp claws raked across his left arm, tearing through his enhanced defenses and drawing blood. Creed gasped in pain, nearly dropping his spear as he struggled to maintain altitude.
The crystalline manta-ray creatures joined the fray, their rotating eyes focusing beams of searing light that forced the group to scatter.
Lilith's storm wall flickered and wavered under the assault, her face pale with strain. One of the beams pierced through her defenses, grazing her shoulder and leaving a smoking wound.
"This isn't working!" she shouted over the chaos, parrying another strike from the lizard-beast while dodging the light beams. "They're too strong!"
Tierra materialized beside Creed, breathing heavily. "My spatial abilities are being dampened. Something about these creatures is interfering with dimensional manipulation."
A bone-and-tongue flower creature slithered toward them, its hundreds of miniature mouths beginning to scream.
Bang!
The mental assault hit like a sledgehammer, sending Creed to his knees. His Path of the Mountain flared desperately, the mountain illusion cracking under the psychic pressure.
Lilith tried to help, but the lizard-beast chose that moment to strike. Its claws found their mark, slashing across her ribs and sending her stumbling backward.
Her scythe flickered, the lightning construct becoming unstable as her concentration wavered.
The horned centipede launched itself at Tierra while she was disoriented by the screaming. She attempted to phase into space but found her power sluggish, compromised.
The creature's horn pierced her side, drawing a cry of pain as she barely managed to teleport a few feet away.
Creed forced himself to his feet, Path of Killing blazing as he thrust his spear toward the flower creature.
But even his enhanced weapon seemed to move through thick syrup. The creature's reality-warping presence was slowing everything around it!
His spear strike, enhanced by his domain and normally devastatingly fast, became sluggish and predictable!
The flower-beast caught his spear in one of its appendages and twisted. Creed felt his weapon nearly torn from his grasp as the creature began to pull him closer to its screaming mouths.
He absolutely couldn't afford to let go of his weapon! If he did, he would be toast!
More agents emerged from the dimensional storm. A trio of hunters that moved like liquid shadow, each one splitting into multiple copies as they advanced.
A floating orb covered in eyes that wept acid tears, each drop eating through the ground like it was paper.
A serpentine horror that existed in seven dimensions simultaneously, making it nearly impossible to target.
Lilith's breathing became labored as she fought to maintain her storm defenses. The lizard-beast's relentless attacks were wearing her down, each strike forcing her to give ground.
Her sigils flickered irregularly now, the intricate patterns around her eyes dimming with exhaustion.
"I can't keep this up much longer," she gasped, barely deflecting another claw strike that would have taken her head off.
Tierra was faring no better. The centipede's dimensional aura continued to interfere with her abilities, making each teleportation more difficult than the last.
She appeared behind one of the shadow hunters, but her daggers passed harmlessly through its duplicated form.
The real one materialized beside her, landing a solid blow that sent her sprawling.
The wolf pack had regrouped and was systematically herding Creed toward the acid-weeping orb.
Each time he tried to break free, they anticipated his movements, their pack tactics flawless.
His Wings of Freedom were becoming a hindrance now, making him too visible, too predictable.
Shuuu!
A beam of searing light from one of the manta-rays caught him across the back, the energy burning through his enhanced defenses and sending him crashing to the ground.
His spear skittered away across the broken terrain.
Shit!
The flower creature's screaming intensified, and this time even Lilith and Tierra were affected.
All three of them clutched their heads, their formations completely broken as the psychic assault overwhelmed their mental defenses.
The Beast King's agents pressed their advantage. The lizard-beast's claws found Lilith's lightning spear, shattering the construct and leaving her defenseless.
The centipede's horn pressed against Tierra's throat as she lay stunned on the ground. The wolf pack surrounded Creed, their eyes glowing with hunger.
For a moment that stretched like eternity, it seemed as though the battle was over.
The three companions lay broken and scattered, their powers spent, their defenses shattered. The agents of the Beast King loomed over them, ready to deliver the final blow.
Then everything stopped.
A shadow fell across them all.
The very air buckled.
Even the dimensional storm dimmed. The swirling sky paused. Sound vanished. Time hiccupped.
Every single agent froze mid-attack, their forms trembling as an overwhelming presence washed over the battlefield.
The Beast King took a single step forward.
The storm bent around it like it bowed in submission.
Its eyes opened, twin vortexes of black and gold that seemed to contain entire galaxies of malevolent intelligence.
Every one of its agents slowly pulled back, their forms shrinking away from their fallen opponents as their master finally decided to act.
Creed stopped breathing. Lilith's eyes went wide with terror. Tierra pressed herself against the ground as if trying to stand desperately.
They all looked up as the Beast King stretched its limbs, and reality itself began to crack around its movements.
It was finally moving!
