CONNECT: Rise Of The Undead King

Chapter 5: What To Do

Escaping from his pursuers, Uche continue running forward without looking back, not even to spare his savior a glance, he was even wary of the mysterious figure more than his pursuers, so he just wanted to get away from whoever they might be and outrun them as far as possible, but to his surprise, the person was much more faster than he had thought.

They suddenly stopped right in front of him, blocked his mouth and dragged him into a corner to the left, where a stairway could be seen, leading downward, they hid behind it while the figure held Uche tightly, then several men could be seen running towards where they had escaped from.

After the men had completely left their view, running into the passage the two had just left, the figure finally freed Uche, giving him a breathing room.

Then the black helmet on the figure head was slowly removed, revealing the delicate face of a beautiful young woman, long black hair flustered backward as she swings her head, with the helmet under her arms, a pleasant smile could be seen on her face.

"Ah, never thought it would be a success."

The lady said.

Uche was surprised that his savior is lady, and as beautiful as this, he was really surprised and didn't know what to say, but he doesn't want to be a fool. For this person to come to his aid, it means she must have known something about him, and know that he's a Connect.

But how?

Unless...

"What do you people want from me?"

Uche blurted out, moving away from her.

The only guess he could make right now is that this lady is either from another trafficking gang that already know about him or she had been with this people before.

"What do you mean?"

The lady responded, a little bit surprised.

"No need to faint ignorance! I know you're one of them!"

Uche retorted, but before the lady could respond to him, a deep voice came from the hallway and several steps followed.

"They go this way, how come you guys didn't see them."

"They must have hid into one of the rooms or followed the underground basement."

"You guys should go block the exit."

Hearing those words, the young woman peeked outside before turning back to Uche.

"Follow this stairs downward, there's an underground basement right below with an exit that leads to the main road, escape through it now."

The young woman said, throwing a quick glance at the hallway.

"You clearly heard them saying the exit should be blocked."

Uche replied.

"With your speed, you should be able to escape before they get there, go now."

She said and immediately put her helmet back on, then rolled onto the hallway and run forward.

Now Uche is sure that the lady is working with those people, otherwise, how did she know that there's an underground basement that he could escape through, she's definitely one of them, and only she knows why she had decided to help him.

He wasted no time rushing down the stairway, the men had spotted the figure in black burst into the hallway, and some of them had run after her while a few followed him down the stairway, into the underground basement.

But just as the lady had said, he was able to outrun his pursuers with a great distance, and also got to the exit before the people that was meant to block it got there. Then he successfully escaped.

---

Uche had a sleepless night after barely escaping from his pursuers, he spent several hours on his bed thinking of the best decision to make.

Now that he is sure that those organ traffickers had known about him and were now on his tail, he knew he only had a limited time before the world will learn of his existence, and will eventually be used as a lab rat.

He couldn't afford that to happen, but after having a sleepless night thinking, he still could never figure a way out. He doesn't want to entertain the idea of leaving the city entirely, not only did he lack the fund to sponsor a flight for himself, but he also couldn't leave without finding the person his eye was transplanted to, not even without getting his eye back.

But remaining in this city will cause him more trouble than leaving his eye with the unknown person. He was a bit thankful that those people haven't revealed his identity to the world yet, although, that also means those people won't get off his tail until they get him, but getting his identity revealed to the world will cause more trouble.

He won't have anywhere to hide.

"Arhghhh!!!"

Uche shouted in frustration.

Not wanting to think about it again, he got off his bed, took his bathe, got into a black top and a jean with a black face cap, he walk out of his house.

A few minutes later, Uche arrived at a small workshop, surrounded by countless metal junks from all sides, creating a garden of some sort around the small workshop, it was built in the outskirt of the city, the street was littered with junks and the workshop itself look like an abandoned inn, rather than a workshop, but looking inside the workshop, it was as large and spacious like an hotel room.

Uche slowly approach the workshop where he could see an old woman standing at the entrance, with her hands on her head while throwing a curious glance to the side by the seconds, as if she's expecting someone.

"Madam, what's wrong."

Uche said, as he slowly approach the woman.

"Oh my, Uche you just came right in time.... it's.. it's Mr. Kim, he left here almost an hour ago, to get a new hammer from the city, but.. but he hasn't come back yet. I am worried, so I want to go look for him."

The old woman said as she wrapped a scarf around her neck.

"Don't worry madam, I'll go look for boss, nothing will happen to him."

Uche said, turning around and started walking back.

He walk on the junk filled street, make several turn, going from street to street, looking for his boss and after going past three different street, he finally found a tiny alley of two buildings that if someone walk through the alley, the person will appear on the next street.

This area of the outskirt is a strange one that every street are lagging onto one another like a labyrinth.

Looking into the tiny alley, Uche saw three school boys in a brown uniform with a long deep brown trouser, they surrounded a person that kneeling on the ground, begging for their life. Uche couldn't see the person clearly but he managed to spot white hair on the person's head, suggesting the person the boys are surrounding is mostly an old man or woman, and the boys themselves are high school students.

'That couldn't be my boss, but there's no harm in finding out.'

He picked his pace and got to the scene in a few seconds, he could finally see the person they're surrounding clearly.

"What are you guys doing, beating an old man?"

Uche shouted as he got into the scene and confirm the man to be his boss.

"Guys, it seems luck is on our side today."

One of the boys said.

"Yes, the old man is proving to be stubborn and we couldn't give him a good beating, as he might just die."

"Can't believe he came just at the last minute we're about to leave."

Another said, as they move away from the man and walk towards Uche.

"You want us to stop beating the old man right? Why don't you ask him to gently hand over his cash?'

"You scum."

Uche muttered under his breath, ignored the boys and bend towards his boss.

"Mr. Kim, are you Okay?"

"They're after my money, these brats, they followed me down here from the city."

The old man said slowly, with a hoarse tone.

"Don't worry boss, I'll deal with them, go now, madam is waiting for you, she's worried."

Uche said as he helped the old man get up and walk him out of the hallway, but the boys stopped him, only letting the man go.

"What, now that you let our fish slip away, do you think we'll let you off?"

One of the boys said, as they inched closer to Uche, who stood with his hand in his pocket, watching the old man as he escaped onto the street.

"What do you guys want?"

Uche asked calmly.

"Well, he got some nerves, just bring out the money with you, and we'll leave."

One of them replied.

Uche didn't say anything, Instead, he turned around and started walking off, but one of the boys draw him back, pinning him against the wall.

"Bastard, do you think we'll let you off, that man has a whole bundle of dollars with him, but you let him escaped and now, you have to pay for it."

The boy said as he pinned him against the wall, his clenched fist already moving towards Uche's head.

Uche, with his hand still in his trouser pocket, slightly move his head to the side, making the boy hit the wall, his knuckle peeling. With a kick, Uche send him back to the others.

"Oh you want to fight, then let's fight."

Another boy said, as he brought out a jacknife, pointing it at Uche, who just stood, staring down at him.

The boy rushed forward, then brought down the knife at Uche, who stood still, not moving. The knife came down upon him and severed his left ear, making the boy dropped the knife and move back in fear, as he saw Uche's ear dropped to the ground.

"Bastard, you could have just avoid that, why didn't you....!"

The boy shouted with fear. He wasn't planning to hurt Uche, he thought he would avoid the knife just as he avoid his friend's punch, but the bastard just stood there making the knife chopped off his ear.

'I'm doomed, Dad will send me out today.'

But what happened next made the three boys step back in fear.

Uche still standing in the same position, staring at them indifferently, his eye patch suddenly fell after losing the support of his second ear, the eye patch dropped to the ground, revealing his empty eye socket.

"What the hell."

"Creepy."

"Monster.'

The boys shouted as they reeled back in fear and picked up their race.

After the boys had disappeared from the alley, Uche finally moved as he bend down and pick up his severed ear.

"Those weak minded brats, they couldn't even stand my empty eye socket, what would their reaction be if they witness my ear attaching back to my body."

Picking up his ear, bloody red tendrils emerged from it and reattached back to his head.
