Chapter 19: The Little Game
The previous day, after the cops had cleared the crime scene and left, they decided to do some research and gather enough information on their two suspects. Although the second suspect was mainly based on Sergeant Kim's instinct, they still chose to dig into both of them.
And just as everyone had suspected, they found next to zero proper information on Uche. His nationality wasn't registered, his place of birth was unknown, his home address wasn't recorded, and they couldn't find a single picture of him. Every piece of information about him was vague and didn't match up.
"Just what a serial killer would do," Inspector Ray muttered as they continued going through his information.
They found out that he had just gotten into the city six months ago.
"Interesting. A serial killer would indeed act anonymously, like a ghost, and keep moving from one place to another. A serial killer would also make sure to observe for a few months before carrying out another operation in their new city. But mind you, we have next to zero evidence to accuse this man of being Snowflake," Sergeant Kim commented.
"He's not Snowflake, right? We'll see."
After going through all of Uche's information, they decided to dig into Kante's, the person Sergeant Kim had assumed to be the second suspect.
They found a lot of information about Kante — his hometown, his home address, his personal records, and many other details. They even discovered that Kante was the owner of the company where the woman had been killed.
Both Sergeant Kim and Inspector Ray were really surprised; nobody had known this fact about him. He had several other companies all around the city, each with different people in charge. This left Sergeant Kim stunned — someone as wealthy as this was living like a normal citizen.
He couldn't believe he had suspected this person of being a serial killer.
Inspector Ray laughed hysterically after a moment of silence.
"So, do you still think he's Snowflake?" he asked, laughing mischievously.
"You know, you could rot in jail if this man decides to take action. I mean, you accused him earlier at the company," Inspector Ray said, still laughing.
"Shut the f\\*ck up, brat. I never accused him, I only asked him a question," Sergeant Kim sneered back, blood trickling from his nose.
Inspector Ray stood up in anger, looking at him with disgust.
"This blood again, arghh!" Inspector Ray shouted.
But just as Sergeant Kim was about to reply, anger building within him and tension rising, a message slipped into the system, announced by the loud notification sound that echoed in the room.
"And what's that again?" Sergeant Kim shouted, wiping the blood from his nose.
Inspector Ray quickly rushed over to the system, opening the message to view its content.
"An anonymous message?" he muttered, as the sender was marked anonymous.
"Let's see the content," Sergeant Kim demanded.
The message was titled:
*Snowflake On The Move Again.*
"Huh?"
"What?"
They both exclaimed.
There was a video attached to the message.
Inspector Ray wasted no time playing it.
In the footage, a young man could be seen slowly walking down a quiet street late at night. An elderly man around the age of 40 was ahead of him, constantly turning around, wary of the young man who had been following him.
The young man, dressed in a black shirt, black jeans, an eye patch, and a face cap, was also looking back every few seconds, making sure there was no one behind him.
"Isn't that the bastard? What is he doing?" Inspector Ray shouted, his hands shaky as he pointed at the screen.
Sergeant Kim, on the other hand, remained calm, his expression heavy.
*Why is he looking at the camera?* Sergeant Kim thought.
The young man kept glancing back, his gaze almost as if directed at the camera.
Then he suddenly lunged forward, and the elderly man collapsed instantly, not moving again.
"Snow\\... Snowflake!!!" Inspector Ray shouted, his body trembling — whether from excitement or fear, nobody knew.
"Can you see now? Tell me this is not Uche... tell me this is not Snowflake," he demanded, staring at Sergeant Kim.
Sergeant Kim didn't reply immediately. He was deep in thought. They all knew Snowflake as a meticulous person. He had always been careful — too careful. In all his years of vicious killing, next to nothing was known about him, not even his identity.
So Sergeant Kim found it hard to believe something like this had happened. Not only was the suspect looking directly at the camera whenever he turned back, but Snowflake would never be careless enough to operate in an area where CCTV cameras were active. He would have tampered with them.
Not that Sergeant Kim was unhappy they might finally get him, but something felt wrong.
*Why do I feel like this is a setup?*
Yes, the clothes were exactly what Uche had worn earlier at the company, excluding the cap. But the face — if Kim remembered correctly, Uche had an oval-shaped face when he saw him, whereas the person in the video had a jaw sharp as a knife.
"No. This is wrong. It's not right," Sergeant Kim finally said.
"What do you mean?" Inspector Ray asked, staring at him seriously.
"Can't you see it? This is a setup. Someone is trying to frame Uche. We don't even know if the person in the video is Snowflake," Sergeant Kim said.
"Will you wake up, man!!!" Inspector Ray shouted, frustration clearly written on his face.
"We finally managed to get a tip-off like this and you still insist it's not him? Okay, tell me — how do you explain the zero information we got about him? A normal citizen would have all their information recorded with the government, but this man has none. How else would a criminal act?
Wake up, you dumb old man!" Inspector Ray yelled.
Sergeant Kim remained calm, but a troubled look was clear on his face.
"I'm not saying that's not Uche, and I'm not saying he's not Snowflake. But think about it — have you ever seen Snowflake act carelessly like this? Do you think Snowflake would operate in an area where CCTV is active, while also looking directly at the camera?
And why did the person who sent the video decide to remain anonymous?" Sergeant Kim asked.
"They're probably scared — scared for their life. But whatever it is, we must get him. This should be his last operation," Inspector Ray insisted.
"Are you sure about that? We don't even know his address," Sergeant Kim replied.
"We don't know his address, but we're sure he's in this city. So what if we raid the whole city in search of the notorious Snowflake? Now tell me — are you perhaps working with him? Why do you keep insisting that guy is not Snowflake?"
Sergeant Kim felt adrenaline rush through him, his veins bulging, anger coursing through his body. Before he knew it, he threw a fist straight at Inspector Ray's face, but the young inspector dodged at the last second and prepared to strike back.
But before they could engage, someone rushed into the room and saluted immediately, a serious expression on his face.
"Yes, sir. There's a report which we think Snowflake might very well be involved in," the officer said, making the two men turn to him at once.
