=============

"Rogue's ability is dangerous to other mutants. Now that Magneto is after her, we don't know his plans, but we must stop him."

"Norin, you're the only one immune to her power. You'll be responsible for protecting her."

"No problem, Professor."

Norin agreed without hesitation. Rogue nodded eagerly, clearly fine with the arrangement.

Logan wanted to object. He'd met Rogue first and had been her protector. Why was he suddenly the outsider?

Then he saw Rogue's eyes, which barely left Norin.

What could Logan say?

'Good riddance. Now I can drink and chase women without interference.'

Logan turned away, his gaze eventually landing on Jean.

He couldn't explain why, but he found her incredibly attractive and mature.

She was exactly his type.

But Logan was a lone wolf. He still needed to chase his lost memories and find his place in the world.

After ensuring Rogue was safe and not Magneto's target, Logan prepared to leave.

Charles stopped him. "Logan, we have more to discuss."

"Isn't everything settled?" Logan sounded impatient.

"What we're about to discuss concerns the future of all mutants—including yours."

Knock, knock, knock—

"Professor, we're here."

Kitty Pryde and Beast Hank entered the room.

"Kitty, this is Anna Marie. She'll be joining us. Can you help her settle in?"

"Of course. Follow me."

Kitty gave Norin a playful wink and led Rogue out.

At Norin's reassuring smile, Rogue understood the following conversation wasn't for her ears. She cooperated and followed Kitty.

Next came the most critical step.

A meeting concerning the survival of mutants began.

---

Meanwhile,

Alberta, Canada.

On the road where Sabretooth had kidnapped Rogue,

Three figures appeared.

Looking at the broken trees, mangled car doors, and exploded pickup truck, Erik, their leader, wore a grim expression.

"Where's Sabretooth? The mission isn't complete. Where did he go?"

Beside him, Toad and Mystique stayed silent.

"Find him! Alive or dead!"

Erik was furious. Rogue was crucial to his next plan, and he couldn't afford mistakes.

Even though he believed he was doing this for the future of mutants, he wouldn't risk his own life using the genetic radiation machine.

He was convinced he alone was fit to lead a world ruled by mutants.

---

The two split up to search, finding the forest destroyed by what looked like Cyclops's beams.

It seemed a fierce battle had taken place between Cyclops and Sabretooth.

But they couldn't understand how Sabretooth, with his strength, had vanished after failing the mission.

They confirmed the X-Men hadn't taken Sabretooth. Otherwise, they'd have heard about it.

If he wasn't captured, he must be trapped somewhere. With his healing factor, dying was nearly impossible.

After a long search, they only found bloodstains.

Erik was about to give up when, flying overhead, he spotted a devastated area in the woods.

Realizing it was another battlefield, he led the others to where Sabretooth had fallen.

There, they found Sabretooth frozen in ice.

---

Sabretooth was in terrible shape. Though his healing factor had repaired much of the damage, the pain had knocked him unconscious.

The freezing weather had split his body in two.

The sight made the three gasp.

What kind of horrific battle had Sabretooth endured to be thrown so far and left in such a state?

If it had been Mystique or Toad, they doubted they'd have survived.

Erik, rarely showing concern, used his powers to break the ice. Sabretooth's body began to heal.

When Sabretooth woke up, Erik questioned him.

Though Sabretooth rarely spoke, he wasn't incapable of communication. Amnesia had affected him, but he could still understand and follow orders.

In Magneto's camp, camaraderie was scarce. Words were few, and as long as Sabretooth understood and completed tasks, his silence didn't matter.

But now, Sabretooth struggled to explain, his words halting and hard to follow.

Erik listened patiently, piecing together the story.

---

"Charles has a new mutant on his team? One who can fly, shoot lasers, and has super strength? A powerful mutant, but a shame he's on the wrong side."

Erik looked solemn, regretful.

If only such a mutant were on his side. The dream of mutant dominance would be closer.

"What's next?" Mystique asked.

"Continue as planned. Capture Senator Kelly first."

"Mystique, I'll leave Rogue to you."

Mystique nodded. As a professional spy, Xavier Institute's defenses were no match for her.

The mutants there, accustomed to peace, had no sense of crisis. Their defenses were laughable.
