Chapter 83: Let’s just watch
A half month before.
Inside a training arena that was very broad, there were a certain number of people present. On the highest tier of seats in this training arena, there were a few special figures.
There were ten people over there. All of them wore fancy and old-fashioned outfits. They gave off an aura that made anyone nearby feel fear.
One of them glanced down at the middle of the arena, where two people stood with steel-like eyes.
Then he opened his aged lips with a bit of eagerness.
"I think the match should begin."
An old man sitting in the middle tier of seats nodded in agreement.
"I will do it, Grand Elder."
After a few minutes, he stood in the middle of the arena.
"Are you ready?" the old man asked both sides.
Then, he continued,
"You can use anything to fight, anyway." He turned his eyes toward those sitting on the highest tier of seats.
"They have enough ability to stop anything."
Yes, those ten people held the highest status and power in the Clan. No one could compare to them—except for the Clan Leader.
They were the Grand Elder or members of the Council.
"Well, when was the last time I duel with you?" Kevin asked in a soft tone, directing his eyes toward Haley, who barely showed any emotion after those words.
"Maybe... five years?" Haley answered calmly while shrugging his shoulders.
However, Kevin just smiled when he heard that, as if Haley's words were the most absurd thing.
He responded with the lightest smile on his lips.
"You really think that was not a duel?"
A silence passed over them.
Haley just frowned slightly, a few veins appearing on his forehead.
"No. That was not a duel!"
"Tsk. All up to you. I don't care much," Kevin said with barely any trace of emotion, as though it didn't matter to him.
Yet, that was enough to make Haley angry.
The final conflict happened during the first challenge, when Kevin managed to protect Hector from Haley.
However, that was just a random fight, and he hadn't made any preparations—at least, that was the illusion he was meant to believe.
Haley gripped his sword tightly, glaring at Kevin with violence—but he forced himself to stay calm. After all, he knew it was just a provocation.
Just a few days earlier, he had been eager to meet Kevin to talk about everything that had happened with Kevin's partner.
However, his mood instantly collapsed when he received news he had never wanted to hear.
Kevin had gained a legendary skill—one that Haley had always wished would be his, not Kevin's.
Yet somehow, now, he had to suffer through this damn thing in unpleasant.
Not only that, he was sent a challenge letter from Kevin.
He couldn't refuse it for several reasons.
First, Kevin had submitted it to the Council. Normally, they would take time to review it, but this time, they approved it immediately—just because they wanted to witness the legendary skill called Condensation Mana.
Second, a part of him began to waver, since Kevin had offered him a bait for winning: a prophecy from Kevin's little sister.
There were three prophecies in total, but the rest were private—reserved only for Kevin's bloodline branch.
It was the kind of offer too tempting to ignore.
And finally—more important than all—Haley genuinely wanted to duel Kevin.
It was something he had always longed for.
He wanted to prove that Condensation Mana was nothing but bullshit and trash.
Kevin was the first to speak.
"You know? You lost to me during the coming-of-age ceremony and the legendary coin, too. And after that, in every fight... I've been holding back. Don't think that just because you're at the center of the universe, you're untouchable. I warned you—but it seems none of my advice ever made it into your thick skull. Now? No more favors. I'm using everything I've got to crush you into a hundred pieces."
Each word he spat out only deepened his emotional rage. He couldn't tolerate anything from Haley—especially things involving Hector and the Holy Forest.
At that moment, Kevin drew a sword from his spatial system and strapped it to his waist. Then, he gave Haley a blank, hollow stare—but his right eye suddenly opened, revealing an iris forged from a mix of gold and silver.
In contrast, Haley seemed to erupt with fury upon hearing Kevin's words—as though it was the very thing he feared the most. It only confirmed one truth: that he was, indeed, far weaker than Kevin.
"FUCK YOU! YOU THINK YOU'RE STRONGER THAN ME? .I'LL BREAK YOUR ARROGANCE!"
"I'LL PROVE I'M INVINCIBLE!"
And with those last words, a violent surge of mana exploded from Haley, bursting out and pressing against the air around them.
His violet aura slashed through the air, forming an endless arc that swept the area. It quickly closed in on Kevin.
However, it abruptly slowed down—like some invisible force had coated Kevin's surroundings. No one there could see what it was.
And, now all concentrated on this match.
….
A low voice echoed through the air from one of the highest seats.
"How surprising..."
"So this is a technique of Condensation Mana—one that only geniuses can wield?"
"So... could it be true? Will our Clan rise again to the height of its former glory?"
But another voice quickly dampened the hopeful mood.
"I wouldn't be so sure... We should keep watching. No one can say for certain—don't forget, Haley is still incredibly strong, and he's the grandson of a Mythic Individual."
Just then, a Grand Elder nearby replied in a mocking tone.
"Tsk. You're just jealous of my grandson. No one in this Clan is allowed to control power just because of a current mythic Individual."
"What are you implying? I'm just stating facts. Plenty of people with powers like his died before they even neared their true potential. Even no one in history in world, possessing a technique like that survive to Mythic-Rank"
"I always stay neutral—no matter who we're talking about."
At that moment, a deeper voice cut through them.
"That's enough. No more talk."
A Grand Elder sitting in the middle row had spoken. But no one could see him—his black cloak covered him completely, just like the other Grand Elders.
The only way to tell them apart was by the color of the aura radiating from each one.
Naturally, the one emitting the most overwhelming aura was the cloaked figure in black. He continued in a cold, heavy tone:
"Let's just watch."
