Coin’s Edge: Reincarnated as a Extra

Chapter 80: Ray Wolfe

In the small room, there were nothing but bandages everywhere.

And here, Hector was still maintaining his stance on the floor with his cane.

Each of his steps was truly stable—unlike before.

It was clear he had practiced a lot. He had lost nearly a whole month because of that.

"Haaah..." Exhaling deeply, Hector directed his cane forward, searching for any sign of something that might block his way. But everything was fine—he could finally sit down on the treatment bed with a sense of relief.

"Finally, I can go to the Academy!"

"But first, I'll meet Bam… and face a lot of other trouble I have to deal with, and…"

Yet, as he said that to himself, his face twisted into a grimace.

"Oh no, I forgot something huge!"

"That's why I left the Academy… damn it."

"Now that I'm returning, do I have to face that bastard from the Avaloria Empire again?"

"Ugh… I've made a mistake."

Hector lightly pressed his forehead, as if to deepen the mental pain.

Suddenly, the loud creak of an opening door echoed through the room, drawing Hector's attention.

Then came a familiar voice—one he'd been hearing often over the past month.

"Boy, are you ready? We're heading to the Academy now. Tyrone's waiting outside!"

"We'll go by horse carriage."

Sitting inside the cabin of the horse carriage, Hector kept his hollow eyes open, trying to look around.

He could feel every tiniest trace of mana in the air around him.

As for lifeless things—wood, the carriage seats, cloth, or anything not alive—he couldn't really see them. But living creatures were different.

Like Tyrone and the elder butler who were sitting on the bench across from him—even the horses pulling the carriage up ahead—

They all appeared as faint pressure points, dull and pale, dotted with tiny spots of color.

It would probably take him a long time to get used to seeing the world like this.

But right now, there was something far more important.

Hector turned his pale eyes toward the elder butler and asked, a little confused and embarrassed:

"Ah, Butler… or should I call you by name? I don't even know it!"

...

"Ah, my apologies. That's my mistake. I should have introduced myself as your companion's servant."

The elder butler nodded politely and began to introduce himself.

"My name is Ray Wolfe. I've served this clan as a butler since the day I was born. Naturally, I've also served the young master since he was a child."

He spoke with pride in his voice.

Tyrone, on the other hand, merely raised one eyebrow slightly, then gave a reluctant nod—clearly not too interested in the conversation.

"I see. May I ask you something?" Hector also gave a small nod, getting to the point.

"Of course. Supporting and serving everything related to my master is my job!" the elder butler answered enthusiastically.

Hector fell silent for a moment, then spoke again with an embarrassed tone.

"I think… I might not be able to set foot in the Academy. You see, I once killed a prince of the Avaloria Empire. That's why I had to flee. If I return now, they might capture me."

"So… I wanted to ask if you might have some kind of disguise artifact?"

Even though he had once declared that he wouldn't accept any help from Kevin, if he couldn't even enter the Academy, everything—everything he planned—would fall apart.

Yet, Ray showed almost no sign of surprise, as though he already knew the whole story. He simply spoke in a calm tone, trying to ease Hector's anxiety.

"Well, you don't need to worry. My young master already told me about your situation. Normally, about a month ago, everything would've been complicated and dragged out if my master tried to help you—but now, it's different."

Hector slowly widened his eyes, confused, waiting for Ray's next words.

"You should thank my master—or maybe I should be the one thanking you two."

"Thanks to you guys, our side finally descended into chaos over the matter with Haley. All the terrible, disgusting things he did to our divine Forest... we've finally united and started fighting back, silently, against his side."

"Tsk! That damned old man should've acted from the beginning, not waited until now," Ray muttered in annoyance, thinking of the ancient elder who held a higher status within the Clan.

"Uh… so, that's it?" Tyrone asked from nearby, still confused since Ray's explanation felt incomplete.

"Of course not," Ray replied, his voice swelling with pride.

"That was just the first condition. Now comes the most important part!"

"My young master has awakened a unique talent—something no one else can imitate. You've witnessed it yourself. I hope you learned something from it." Ray glanced meaningfully at Tyrone.

"Yeah, I know. That's 'Condensed Mana', right? Your master's a genius. I've heard enough from you. Don't say it again—I'm already bored to death." Tyrone grimaced, recalling all the pain he had endured at Kevin's hands.

It was likely the one thing he most wanted to forget.

"Condensation… You mean the ability to gather and condense mana? That ability only appears once every thousand years, in a single person throughout the entire world!"

''They are the chosen ones of God''

''And so many noble words I've heard about them''

Hector gasped in shock because that technique hadn't appeared in the novel, but it had been mentioned.

"Impossible… no, I shouldn't be surprised by that damn thing anymore. Nothing makes sense these days." Hector nodded quietly, accepting the unbelievable truth.

"Well, you're definitely smarter and sharper than your partner," Ray said, casting a glance at Tyrone.

"What?! I've known that long ago! I was just pretending with you!" Tyrone shouted in frustration, but Ray wasn't the least bit impressed and continued calmly.

"Then, you must understand how vital that technique is to our Clan. Because of it, many elders have changed their stance on Kevin... The internal war within our Clan has reached a balance now. And that means—my young master can protect you!"

"No one—not even the damned royalty of any Empire—would dare provoke our side!"

Ray puffed out his chest in pride while Hector just froze in place.

"FUCK! Why didn't he awaken that power sooner? Maybe… my life wouldn't have turned out so miserable."
