Coin’s Edge: Reincarnated as a Extra

Chapter 64: I'm just a weak bastard

On a vast sea, only silence lingered here.

No humans. No creatures.

Just silence and loneliness.

The surface of the sea stretched endlessly, without a final point. That was white space.

Then, suddenly, the color of the sea turned into the color of blood, spreading over to every corner of this world.

Not only that, the crimson sky began to rain down the water of blood.

Rain poured over the cursed, vast sea when a shape began to appear.

And between this deadly, horrible place, where there were two figures, stood upon it.

A young man knelt on the surface of the blood-stained sea, gazing at the red sky with tired and lonely eyes as if, at this moment, he was just a hollow shell.

Then, he slowly turned his gaze forward—to where a girl had lain motionless for a long time.

"It's you..." Hector spoke with difficulty, letting out a broken, long breath.

With a harsh blink, the girl suddenly appeared in front of his eyes.

A girl of around thirteen or fourteen, with dark hair floating on the red water, her delicate, beautiful face engraved into his vision.

It seemed like an illusion, but he didn't mind. His emotion was totally corrupting to the degree that he had lost the wisdom of a common human.

His breath uneven, he narrowed the gap between them, his heart tearing apart.

With trembling hands, he slowly stretched his hand to her and gently embraced her.

Lightly pressed her against his shivering chest.

Cold.

No warmth.

She felt like a shell.

And now, he could barely feel anything—no agony, no sorrow—because his mind was simply a dull.

" After all … I'm just a weak bastard."

Even if he knew what he looked at was just an illusion, but his body denied all those things, he just acted to follow his instinct.

He closed his eyes, holding her tighter and tighter against his chest, as crimson tears streamed endlessly down his face.

Like he was holding a soulless corpse, lifeless and still.

He just sank into that moment forever. He didn't want to wake up and face something that terrible again.

He was weak—mentally and physically. He couldn't even forget a guilt that wasn't truly his.

Creak!

Creak!

Creak!

Suddenly, in this lonely world, the sound of a shattering mirror echoed, along with countless other noises.

The world began to collapse—which meant he would wake up and go through it all over again!

Maybe they had forced him to swallow the capsule to rebuild his broken mind.

"No!"

"I don't want to go back... I just want to stay with her." Hector stuttered in panic, his voice trembling.

He hugged the girl again tightly and closed his eyes, wishing for everything to stay just like that.

But clearly, it didn't make sense in this place.

Time passed.

Hector could feel the distortion growing in his mind, so he tried to prepare himself to wake up.

"Again."

Hector muttered with a bit of disappointment, slowly opening his eyes to observe the situation around him.

"What happened? This place feels like the first time I woke up," Hector glanced around.

Just the same privileged prison that had bound him earlier—no signs of a shift.

Well… maybe, just a little.

Everyone inside this prison ignored him. No one looked his way. It was as if they all wished he didn't exist.

"After all, what's been going on since I sat in that torture chair?" he mumbled to himself.

"Lady Berry, please… tell me everything." Hector directed his voice toward Berry, the one he believed might help him now.

Silence.

Silence.

She only trembled in fear when he spoke her name, avoiding his gaze.

And that made him feel uneasy—misunderstood.

"Shut your damn mouth! Don't talk to my lady with that filthy voice, you monster!"

Suddenly, a shout full of rage exploded toward Hector.

"Huh?" Hector turned toward the next room.

"Oscar? What happened to you?" Hector asked in confusion.

But no answer came. The only thing he got was another wave of Oscar's foul-mouthed shouting.

Then something strange happened.

As Hector stared at him, Oscar almost instantly bolted to the far corner of the room, scratching and clawing in panic, mumbling in fear.

"Fuck off, monster!"

Tap.

Tap.

Tap.

A young man walked calmly down the hallway, one hand in his pocket.

A few minutes later, he stopped in front of a large door and opened it.

Creakkkkkkk!

It was a massive experiment room, filled with scientists.

Papers, tubes, and tools were scattered everywhere.

He looked around with a sharp gaze for a moment before stepping inside.

He approached the oldest-looking scientist and asked:

"Everything all right?"

The scientist, startled by the sudden voice, froze briefly before snapping back to awareness.

He turned to Haley and quickly bowed.

"Yes, everything's fine."

Haley walked toward a chair and sat down, glancing coldly at the scientist.

"So... how is the Rhythm's corruption project going?"

"Oh, ah… Please wait just a moment." The scientist hurried over to a table and grabbed a multicolored capsule.

"Here, this is the final product! Nothing else can surpass it—now or ever!"

Haley nodded slightly and gestured for him to continue.

The scientist smiled proudly, holding up the capsule.

"With the help of the latest formula—brought here by Master Haley—uhm, your name is… never mind. We're researching something incredible. It has more power and destructive potential than any of the earlier versions."

Hearing that, Haley lifted the corner of his lips and asked:

"So, does he have as much power as him?"

"Of course not. That's impossible, young master," the scientist replied evenly.

He added, "I've adjusted the minimum dose to control the mind without side effects, thanks to the latest formula. But that's the best I can do—Rhythm's Corruption is far too dangerous to increase the dose."

Silence.

Haley sighed in disappointment, then glanced at the capsule in the scientist's hand.

"So, what's the power gap between them?"

"Ah..." The scientist scratched his head awkwardly, avoiding Haley's eyes.

"This version boosts power by about five times, while the earlier one boosts it by ten times…"
