Coin’s Edge: Reincarnated as a Extra

Chapter 51: Corruption of mana

''Wake up!''

Then, the large sound of a slap rang out over the prison.

At this moment, Hector began to open his eyes slowly and tried to lift his head to look, but it was so hard because the prior slap had left him dazed.

With his vision blurred, he spoke in a weak, rough tone.

''H-How… many days?''

It was clear that his voice was no longer normal after he had shouted too much.

Eventually, he also wasn't as strong as he had thought… he had given up after hours of being tortured.

Tom slightly raised the corner of his lips while lightly shrugging his shoulders.

''Guess so?.. Maybe, three days?''

''And now! Take it!''

Right after, he prepared to whip Hector's upper body again, just as he had every time.

''Urgh!'' Hector immediately ground his teeth tightly again and tensed each layer of muscle to endure the strike.

Instantly, a painful, raw sensation blanketed him, making his whole body tremble. After the assault finished, Hector finally could relax his broken muscles.

His entire body shivered with each strike, and a few tears trickled from his eyes in agony. Yet, Hector barely shouted loudly or took any action.

He just lowered his head, staring at the ground with half-opened eyes and breathing in an extremely hard way.

"Pathetic!"

Then, Tom intended to whip again, but he quickly stopped as a voice rang out from behind the steel bars.

"Stop..."

...

"M-Master Haley!" Tom shivered as he spoke.

He ignored Tom's polite and fearful greeting and entered.

Just seconds later, Haley stood in front of Hector. Tom, standing beside him, bowed his head politely, not daring to look at Haley.

"How's it going?" Haley asked coldly.

Instantly, Tom quickly answered without hesitation... He certainly didn't want to anger Haley.

"Everything alright!... According to my calculations, he'll reveal his true nature in a few days."

...

A few seconds passed in silence.

Haley looked at Hector, who was in an extremely bad state, yet he found it somewhat amusing

Seemingly, he wanted to see stuff even more than now, so he slowly glanced at Tom and said quietly,

"So... I'll speed up the process for you."

Haley reached into his storage system and threw a small pouch at Tom.

"Huh!... You're going to use it on him?"

It was a black capsule, entirely different from a healing capsule. The Haley's scientist had created that product.

And it's an aim that only Haley and his underlings knew.

Haley nodded, gesturing for Tom to carry out his action.

A few seconds later …

With a few forced actions, Tom easily made Hector swallow the capsule without difficulty or resistance. However, Hector understood that if he acted foolishly, his suffering would only be prolonged further.

Therefore, He just accepted his fate.

"Swallow it... Don't waste the master's new product."

The choking noise came from Hector as the capsule was forced into his mouth. Because Hector barely had the strength to resist, the capsule quickly made its way down into his stomach.

"W-What is that?"

Hector thought.

"What did he give me… to eat?"

Suddenly, something burst out in his mind and throughout his whole body. He felt as if his mind was being shattered and reconstructed little by little until his consciousness could barely hold on anymore

"That …sensation…

… is so s-strange."

[Warning: An abnormal mana is intruding on your body]

[Error! Error! Error!]

Then, Hector completely lost consciousness.

"So… will he go into a frenzy?"

"I have no idea!... But if his willpower is strong, he'll endure it."

"I think his mentality is too strong. That makes him an excellent experiment… far superior to all the trash beyond the outer sectors."

Then, he shifted his lifeless eyes toward the steel bars behind him.

A multitude of small steel cells covered the area, forming a towering structure with a circular yard in the middle.

The dark, dusty, and filthy space was filled with agonizing screams of pain and despair.

Countless humans writhed in madness, their tortured figures stretching from the first floor to the hundredth.

This place was nothing short of a slaughterhouse for humans.

"You're the greatest failure of my life…"

"Why don't you go to die? Is it that easy for you?"

Several voices echoed loudly.

"Urgh… W-What's happening?" Hector groaned, his rough and pained voice escaping through his partly torn lips.

"Huh? Corruption? What was that? I've never heard of it before."

Hector's expression twisted in confusion as he noticed the unfamiliar line in his status.

Again!

"You're a failure in my life!"

"Why won't you just die?"

Immediately, Hector jolted awake, trying to push himself up, but his legs gave out beneath him. He barely had any strength left—only the overwhelming pain coursing through his body.

"Am I… free?"

It was undeniable.

At this moment, there were no longer any chains binding his ankles and wrists, yet the agony—both physical and mental—still lingered within him. Exception: His neck was bound by a black steel chain.

Hector exhaled a deep, ragged breath as if a crushing weight had been lifted from his mind.

A few minutes passed before he could finally stand up completely.

"You think… Can you escape from here? No… you'll die!"

Hector scanned his surroundings with sharp, focused eyes, his brows furrowing.

This place was hardly any different from the prison before—except it was broader, filthier, and reeked of decay.

Of course, no one else was there.

Of course, the skull lying in the corner of the prison was no exception.

So… where was this curse coming from?

"Have you forgotten… that you killed your patient?"

The voice was a twisted blend of chaos and eerie allure.

"You've already killed a child."

Instantly, a shudder ran down his spine as he heard those words…

That was a pain he never wanted to remember.
