Cobra Kai: New life

Chapter 14: chapter 14

Days later at school, David and the guys—Miguel, Dimitri, and now Hawk, whose real name was Eli but preferred to be called Hawk—were walking through the hallways.

"Wasn't today the tour for middle school kids?" David asked.

"I think so. Didn't pay much attention," Miguel replied.

"By the way, David… are you and Tory dating? I mean, how'd you manage that knowing she's in Cobra Kai?" Dimitri asked.

"Well, we work at the same place, and I usually walk her home or to her other job. We text and stuff, but it's not official yet. Neither of us has asked to be, you know, exclusive," David explained.

"You better hurry up with that," Hawk said. "She might think you're just playing around if you don't make it official soon."

"Trust Eli on this one. The guy's a Casanova," Miguel added with a goofy smile.

"Alright! I'll do it after work today!" David declared with a look of determination and confidence. "But first, I need to hit the bathroom."

"I'll go too. Wait for me," Eli said.

In the bathroom, they saw a middle school kid about to hit two Miyagi-Do kids from behind. Hawk shoved the kid against the wall.

"Typical Cobra Kai. Strike first," Hawk said. "Here's some advice, kid. Quit Cobra Kai while you still can. After the All Valley, they won't even exist."

"Alright, alright, let him go," David said, placing a hand on Hawk's shoulder. "Good luck, kid. Train hard; you've got potential to be strong."

The middle schooler ran out of the bathroom. David went back to his business and, after a while, left the bathroom to head to his next class.

Later that day at work, David had been promoted to waiter. With agility and great balance, he was seen carrying multiple plates to various tables. Customers who watched him perform tricks with their food tipped extra just for the show.

"Well, Santos, you should walk a tightrope 40 feet up. You'd be famous," one customer joked.

"I could, but then who else would be here to entertain you?" David replied. "Now, everyone, watch me do a Spiderman! Make some room!"

David tossed a tray full of plates into the air, caught them all without letting anything fall, and placed them perfectly on the tray, just as they had left the kitchen.

The customers erupted in applause, and David, ever the performer, bowed to the crowd as he began serving their dishes.

"So now you're the Dragon Waiter? I liked Dragon Cleaner better," Tory teased.

"Of course. Soon I'll be the Dragon Manager just for you, Tigress," David joked.

"I'd say don't set the bar too high. Other waiters might lose their jobs if you keep this up," Tory added.

"By the way, once our shift ends, I want to talk to you," David said.

"Don't tell me you're going to ask me to be your girlfriend or something," Tory said with a playful smirk.

"Well… yeah. Who told you? Was it Hawk?" David asked, looking away awkwardly.

"You didn't need to ask, you know. I thought we made it pretty clear after what happened at the LaRussos' house," Tory said.

"Well, I wasn't sure how that worked, but this is even better," David said.

"By the way, the Cobra Kai guys are going to get back at Hawk. I'm telling you because you're my boyfriend now," Tory added.

"Alright, I'll call him to warn him. Also, Sensei Lawrence and Sensei LaRusso are fighting today. I'd go watch, but I have to walk my lovely girlfriend to her other job," David said with a grin.

"Wow, I'm that important to you? I like that. Just don't kiss anyone else, or I'll hit you so hard you'll forget who you are," Tory warned.

Later, after dropping Tory off at her other job, David tried to contact Hawk, but he wasn't answering. He called Dimitri instead.

"Dimitri, this is important. Go to wherever Eli is. The Cobra Kai guys are going to attack him as payback. I meant to tell him earlier, but I was busy at work," David said.

"David… I can't hear you… bad signal…" Dimitri said before the call dropped.

"He's probably at the dojo. The signal there sucks. If I knew exactly where he was, I'd go right away," David muttered to himself.

At that moment, David's phone rang. It was Hawk.

"Man, what's going on? Are you okay?" David asked.

"I've had better days. That jerk Robby and the Cobra Kai guys jumped me," Hawk said in a low voice filled with sadness.

"Where are you now? I'm coming," David said.

After Hawk gave him the location—which was indeed the dojo—David took a taxi there. When he arrived, the senseis' fight had already ended, and Hawk was sitting alone, covering his head with a hoodie.

"Man, they really messed you up," David said, placing a hand on Hawk's shoulder.

"I deserved it. I was an idiot," Hawk replied.

"But what's with the hoodie? Come on, man, take it off," David insisted.

When Hawk removed the hood, it became clear why he was hiding. His trademark mohawk, which he wore with pride, had been cut off, along with much of his confidence.

"It's not so bad, you know? In no time, you'll be back to being the Hawk we all know," David said.

"Just call me Eli now. See you later, David," Hawk said as he walked away.

After saying goodbye to Eli and checking in with some of the other guys, David asked for the recording of the senseis' fight before heading home.
